“Who says daytime never gives top writing jobs to new blood? Well, I do. I say it often, because they don’t. Days of Our Lives appears to be bucking that trend by promoting staff writer Soap Opera Digest broke the story and that has quit the 50-year-old sudser.to co-head writer alongside .
Quan started as a writers assistant at Days of Our Lives in 2009 and worked his way up. He’s been both a breakdown writer and script writer for the soap.
Griffith, according to SOD, is leaving DAYS to “pursue other projects and interests”. I wish him well. Lord knows I wasn’t a fan of the dark turn DAYStook under Griffith and Higley, but there’s no denying Griffith is a talented writer. His sensibilities and style would fit in well on the staff of a gritty cable drama.
As for Higley… How soon can someone replace her?”
I have really been disliking the writing on the show in general (ironically, the best writing so far this year was on Days the first week of this year with the death of Daniel material) – so I am pleased with this decision. I wonder if Claire Labine is still around? Or just re-hire the great writers they fired!
Of course. I feel like it’s becoming an annual tradition for DAYS to make changes to it’s writing staff around this time of year.
I’ve been not a big fan of the show being so dark either, and I guess if that’s Griffith, this is a good thing for the show. I wish him all the best. And I like the idea of promoting from within, and the team of Ryan Quan and Dena Higley at least has a strong history with the show and probably a better sense of character than Griffith/Higley. I also like trying someone new and not getting a retread writer from another show. We’ll see how this goes. Well, we’ll see eventually, since it was reported before the official show renewal came through that the show was written through September already.
