My pick of the losers! Note: Wikipedia has a mistake in the 1980 list; Louise Shaffer was also a nominee that year.

    1981 Randall Edwards (Ryan’s Hope)

    1985 Maeve Kinkead (Guiding Light)
1986 Kathleen Widdoes (As The World Turns)
1987 Lisa Brown (As The World Turns)

    1993 Jane Elliot (General Hospital)
    1994 Maureen Garrett (Guiding Light)
    1995 Jacklyn Zeman (General Hospital)
1996 Victoria Rowell (The Young and the Restless)
    1997 Jacklyn Zeman (General Hospital)
    1997 Amy Carlson (Another World)
    1998 Beth Ehlers (Guiding Light)
1999 Nancy Lee Grahn (General Hospital)
2000 Maura West (As The World Turns)
2001 Maura West (As The World Turns)
2002 Linda Dano (One Life To Live)
2003 Kathy Brier (One Life To Live)
2004 Ilene Kristen (One Life To Live)
2005 Renee Elise Goldsberry (One Life To Live)

2008 Bree Williamson (One Life to Live)
2009 Bree Williamson (One Life To Live)
2010 Bree Williamson (One Life To Live)
    2011 Rebecca Herbst (General Hospital)
2012 Arianne Zucker (Days Of Our Lives)

Loved Louise Shaffer on Ryan’s Hope. Her character was like Donna Mills on Knots Landing. Didn’t she have an affair with her daughter’s boyfriend?

I was crushed every time Robin Mattson lost for both General Hospital and Santa Barbara.

Lisa Brown seemed like a can’t miss nominee with her dramatic story on As the World Turns in 1987.

Michelle Forbes was phenomenal on Guiding Light. It was actually her who drew me back to watch the show on a daily basis.

Maureen Garrett on Guiding Light was another that I was always rooting for. She worked so well with Peter Simon and Michael Zaslow.

Jacklyn Zeman had her greatest General Hospital story in 1995 when BJ died. I thought for sure that she would win.

Kathy Brier was so mesmerizing on One Life To Live. She was one of my favorites.

My favorite Rae storyline was the Michael Pavel story – yes, mother and daughter were both involved with Michael – it was a pygmalion relationship between Rae and Michael. Kimberly murdered him in one of the all-time great soap scenes!

It’s insane that Robin Mattson has never won an Emmy ); She also should have been nominated for her version of Janet Green (I loved Kate Collins in the role too). RM should ahve more than just four nominations.

It was crazy that Lisa Brown wasn’t nominated for her Nola on Guiding Light – she was the show for me in the early 1980’s (although Jane Elliot was amazing as Carrie for a year during that time too). I miss her and wish she would return to soaps.

Yes, that story on Ryan’s Hope was so much fun! RH exemplifies the kind of east-coast 30-minute show that I miss. The only bad thing was all the recasting.

Yes, Lisa Brown definitely should have been nominated for her role as Nola on Guiding Light. That is her all-time best soap work, although she was great on As the World Turns when it was revealed that she was Lily’s biological mother.

Robin Mattson did some amazing work back then, and the writers on both General Hospital and Santa Barbara gave her great material. The character of Heather was ruined by Guza when he brought her back in 2004, and the writers since then have only made it worse. But I still enjoy seeing her (if they had planned long-term, we would be seeing her every week).

    My Picks:
In some cases I had to go with the actual winner.

    1979: Susan Brown (General Hospital)
1980: Francesca James (All My Children) (actual winner)
1981: Jane Elliot (General Hospital) (actual winner)
1982: Dorothy Lyman (All My Children) (actual winner)
    1983: Robin Mattson (General Hospital)
1984: Marcy Walker (All My Children)
    1985: Maeve Kinkade (Guiding Light)
1986: Kathleen Widdoes (As The World Turns)
    1987: Robin Mattson (Santa Barbara)
1988: Arlene Sorkin (Days of Our Lives)
1989: Nancy Lee Grahn (Santa Barbara) (one of the actual co-winners in a tie with Debbi Morgan. But I’d give this to Grahn flat-out).
1990: Jess Walton (Young & Restless)
    1991: Maureen Garrett (Guiding Light)
    1992: Lynn Herring (General Hospital)
1993: Kimberline Brown (Young & Restless)
1994: Susan Haskell (One Life to Live)—(actual winner)nobody earned an Emmy more than her in 1994.
1995: Jacklyn Zeman (General Hospital)—I consider her loss one of the greatest Emmy tragedies.
1996: Victoria Rowell (Young & Restless)
1997: Eva LaRue (All My Children)
    1998: Amy Ecklund (Guiding Light)
1999: Jennifer Bassey (All My Children)
2000: Sarah Joy Brown (General Hospital) (actual winner)
2001: Colleen Zenk Pinter (As The World Turns)
2002: Maura West (As The World Turns)
    2003: Robin Christopher (General Hospital)
2004: Ilene Kristen (One Life To Live)
2005: Heather Tom (One Life To Live)
2006: Renee Elise Goldsberry (One Life To Live)
2007: Genie Francis (General Hospital) (actual winner)
2008: Gina Tognoni (Guiding Light) (actual winner)
2009: Melissa Claire Egan (All My Children)

2013: Arianne Zucker (Days of Our Lives)

Looking over this list it is kind of crazy that icons like Robin Mattson and Kimberline Brown have never won Emmy’s. And I still consider it a tragedy that Jacklyn Zeman has never won an Emmy either. Her work in the 1990’s was so iconic and so close to flawless. Especially the storyline about BJ’s death and later the work involving Bobbie discovering Carly and Tony’s affair.

It still burns me up thinking about Arianne Zucker not winning the 2010 (for 2009) supporting actress Emmy. She’d had an amazing year, and her reel, to me, was head and shoulders above the others and much, much better than winner Julie Pinson’s. I consider it the worst loss ever.
