Following on the news yesterday about Shawn Christian’s (Daniel) exit comes word this morning from Serial Scoop that Kassie DePaiva (Eve) will also be exiting the show in the near future.

According to SS, Eve’s exit from Salem will not be tied to the current serial killer storyline that is taking place and recent tweets from Kassie DePaiva indicate that she is still around in late December on screen as Eve will be singing on the Christmas episode, so expect to see her on screen for several more months and into early 2016.

Don’t expect Eve to be sitting on her hands, she has a big story involving A Martinez’s new character Eduardo, who will be heading to Salem soon.

No word yet on whether this was KDP’s decision or the shows.

KDP is the 7th confirmed exit since Josh Griffith and Dena Higley took over as new headwriters.  She follows Shawn Christian (Daniel), Daniel Cosgrove (Aiden), Freddie Smith (Sonny), Melissa Archer (Serena), Paul Telfer (Xander) and True O’Brien (Paige).

Don’t expect this to be the last exit…more are coming…a long with some big returns.

I feared this would happen ): I was expecting it – they stranded Eve by hilling off Paige. Glad to hear there is one more story for her to look forward to, but when you know that they are leaving it alters your investment.

They seem to have made a decision to get rid of everything Tomlin & Whitesell and regress back to the 1980’s ): They have also gotten rid of the gay storylines completely ): (btw, the actor who plays T has also been let go, sadly) – I don’t see this as a good thing. I think it’s actually the death knell for this soap, a last gasp, but it’s not going to work. The soap habit has been transferred to reality shows such as the real housewives franchise ):

This is really sad news because KD was a scene stealer from the start, but boy did she ever make the most of her run here.

This is unfortunate.  The soap gods giveth and they taketh away!  I’ve been pretty vocal about how much I’ve enjoyed Kassie DePaiva as Eve and how strong I think her work as been this year.  Maybe leaving the show makes her more likely to win an Emmy, since more often than not the DAYS Emmy winners from the last 10 years have already been off the show, at least behind the scenes if not on screen.

I’m sad to see Eve go, but it also feels logical.  As much as I have loved the rivalry with Jennifer, it’s not a compelling reason for Eve to stay in Salem.  Now that Paige has been killed and Eve got the money she came to town looking for, I don’t see a reason for her to stay in the place where her daughter was murdered surrounded mostly by people who dislike her.

I agree Freeman that the slash and burn approach with the previous regime’s work is not a great idea.  Not to sound like a broken record, but it’s almost like trying to push the show’s existing audience base out the door.  I guess fast action had to be taken because the anniversary was approaching and they couldn’t afford to keep the old actors and hire all the vets back and the new people they’re bringing in (they certainly could have been more judicious in choosing characters to get rid of as some of them could have easily just been written into a different part of the show or tweaked instead of cast off in favor of different new characters).

Now I’m just hoping that the big returns are people I want to see.  By my count, there are only a few couples left in the supercouple well.   James Scott’s pilot was ordered to series, so I wouldn’t expect him back, and Ken Corday was pretty unambiguous about wanting to leave Jack dead rather than bring him back.  Without Sami/EJ or Jennifer/Jack, that really only leaves Carrie and Austin.  Hopefully Carrie will be back, with or without Austin.  I’d also love to see Frankie back, but then Eve leaving makes a lot less sense.  I would also welcome a return from Kristen.

Best of luck to KDP post-DAYS.  Maybe GH will scoop her up as a quirky doctor with unorthodox methods but a sterling record.

That’s unfortunate. I was one of the few people who thought she did fine as Eve, but I saw this coming. I actually thought with red/brown dyed hair, she should have been Phyllis on Y&R instead of Gina Tognoni, who would have been a better recast for Eve on DOOL. I actually hope Y&R take her under their wing. GH would be a bad place to be because they are just as bad as DOOL with the cutting of great actors.

^^Interesting!  It’s hard for me to picture GT playing Eve, but she probably wouldn’t have been interested in the role anyway.

I could not see KDP pulling off Phyllis.

The casual DOOL fans have wanted Eve gone.

I wouldn’t consider KDP for Phyllis eitehr, but more because Blair occupied the same space in Llanview that MS’s Phyllis did in Genoa City.  Eve is so different from Blair, and it was really refreshing to see KDP do something different.

However does anyone know if the role of Eve was offered to Michelle Stafford?  I swear I read somewhere (and I have tried, unsuccessfully, to find it) that she was offered Days and GH around the same time, and she chose the latter.  Eve is the only character that would make sense on Days since nuEve and Nina both arrived onscreen around the same time.

Interestingly, Jen Lilley overtly campaigned for Kelly Sullivan to be cast as Eve, and we know KSu was in the running to be Phyllis.  Fast forward a year and Eve is being written out and the Phyllis recast was a bust.  I guess there is not much to be said for Sage either, but at this point it looks like KSu is having the last laugh.

Why is Kelly Sullivan always considered for roles much older than her? I don’t get it.

The only reason I say KDP could have played “Phyllis” is because she has played a similar character before (“Blair Cramer”), she and Michelle Stafford are in the same age range (so it’s believable for her to have a 30 something year old son) and she is the same build as Michelle’s version. I think Gina Tognoni is doing a decent enough job, but Jamie Luner (her being natural redhead and vixen) and Kassie DePaiva are more Phyllis-like to me.

As for Gina Tognoni being “Eve,” it’s not so much her being a perfect fit for the role, but more of her not truly fitting the role of “Phyllis.” She’s more in “Eve’s” (Charlotte Ross) age range than “Phyllis.” I have a thing with actors playing someone too many years they’re senior or junior. It was unfortunate Charlotte passed on returning, but primetime success will always trump daytime.

I don’t know if Michelle Stafford was offered the role of Eve on DAYS.  But since Nina and Eve did appear on GH and DAYS respectively around the same time, I would guess that’s not the case.  DAYS tapes four or fives months ahead of GH, and I think the news of Kassie DePaiva’s casting came months before we saw Nina come out of that coma on GH, not to mention before she appeared on screen as Eve.  But I do also remember reading that MS had been offered roles on GH and DAYS, and I think possibly B&B as well?  I remember her saying she chose GH because Frank just made an offer that she couldn’t resist, something like that.  It would be interesting to have seen what MS would have done with Eve, but I doubt it would have made a big difference in terms of what’s happened with the character.  KDP has totally owned that role, and whether some of the fans like her or not, she’s done a fantastic job.

It’s kind of funny the actresses who we end up putting together in the same categories and talking about for the same roles: MS, KDP, Gina Tognoni, Kelly Sullivan, Jamie Lunar.  I couldn’t really see KSu being Eve either, and she certainly seems too young to be either Paige’s mother or Jennifer’s high school rival, but she does make sense as an older sister for Jen Lilley’s Theresa, so I can see why she would have campaigned for her.

The role was NOT offered to Michelle Stafford….the only actress who was offered the role outright was Charlotte Ross, who was the original portrayer.  She considered returning, but ultimately decided not to, but did not rule out a return later.  The role was then put out for audition and was won by Kassie DePaiva.

Kelly Sullivan auditioned, along with several other actresses.

She sure hasn’t given them a reason to fire her(GT) with the ratings of late. She isn’t Phyllis but this show will never cast the actors we want to play the roles. They don’t let the media get in their way(except when MAB was there who kept Muhney around who was getting all the media buzz). GT would probably not fit any role right now until she shakes off the Dinah schtick and brings back her Kelly schtick.

Thanks Scoopster, as always, for sharing all the interesting casting news and updates.

I’m honestly stunned by this news. This is one exit that I wouldn’t have anticipated, even moreso since Paige has already gotten the axe and I expected Eve to stick around longterm. It’s comforting, at least, knowing that Eve will still be airing right until the end of the year, which hopefully provides viewers like me who’ve enjoyed her character (and Kassie DePaiva’s phenomenal work in this role) with enough closure. It’s a shame, though, as I was really looking forward to seeing Eve embark on, as you Scoopster so movingly put it over on the DAYS thread, that long road to redemption in the wake of Paige’s death. I hope that the writers will do her character justice by detailing at least parts of that journey, despite the little time frame we have left.

Kassie DePaiva has been one of my favorite daytime performers of 2015. It is ashame to see Days lose another Emmy-caliber actor. She certainly is a contender for an Emmy next year, and, as EmmyLoser noted, Days only wins Emmys for departing/former actors.

That said, I will not complain. At least Days recognizes that some characters are meant to move on, even when they are portrayed by popular actors. In this case, I would not have chosen DePaiva nor True O’Brien to cut, but I respect the fact that they are trying to make changes to the show and to keep it moving.
