Based on a tweet from TV GUIDE’s Michael Logan, OLTL alum Kassie DePaiva is joining the cast of DAYS OF OUR LIVES.
No word yet on first airdate as DAYS/NBC has not confirmed the news.
KDP in recent weeks started following several of the DAYS cast members and the DAYS twitter handles.January 23, 2014 at 9:45 am #425582
This is exciting news!January 23, 2014 at 11:39 am #425583
I love Kassie DePaiva. She won BEST ACTRESS at the 1978 Kentucky Theater Association convention I attended. She then advanced to the 1979 Southeastern Theater Assocation convention & won BEST ACTRESS there also. Next thing I know, around 1988 or so I’m watching the credits scroll by on GUIDING LIGHT & I see Kassie’s name!
I thought, “That’s quite the accomplishment! To go from a smalltown theater convention in 1978 to appearing on GUIDING LIGHT in the span of ten years.”
Nice to hear her career is still going strong!January 23, 2014 at 3:07 pm #425584
Pretty exciting if it’s true, which it certainly seems to be. I’m a big fan of Kassie DePaiva, and I’d be excited to see what she and her character, whoever she may be, would bring to Salem. The DAYS landscape continues to change.January 24, 2014 at 9:52 am #425585
It’s confirmed. She’ll be playing Eve Donovan, so I assume she’ll be interacting with Jen Lilley and Missy Reeves. She should be fantastic in the role, it sounds pretty similar to Blair Cramer before she was watered down towards the end of OLTL’s run.January 24, 2014 at 4:44 pm #425586
Yeah, this is really interesting casting, and I think it could be great. I’m really surprised, both because I know DAYS had met with Charlotte Ross about the possibility of returning and because Kassie DePaiva feels a little older than the role of Eve to me. She’s only six years younger than Charles Shaughnessy, but she’s also only seven years older than Charlotte Ross, and obviously looks fantastic. It doesn’t seem like Theresa’s hatefest with Jennifer, and now Abigail and soon JJ I’ll bet, is going away anytime soon, so getting Eve in on this will be good. Looking forward to it, but we’ll have to wait until summer!January 25, 2014 at 2:40 am #425587
This is not a good recast. I was looking forward to them using old clips of Ross and Reeves. Will Eve now be a Southern temptress? Why can’t Kassie be given an original character?January 26, 2014 at 3:15 pm #425588
Wow! What a get for Kassie. She has been through it the last few years, so it is nice that she’ll have a steady paycheck.January 26, 2014 at 6:37 pm #425589
I think Kassie DePaiva is awesome, and Days has shown time and again that they know what they’re doing, so while I’m surprised, I’m not disappointed and don’t expect to be. However, the surprise did get me thinkng about who else could have suited this role. We know Charlotte Ross declined to return and Jen Lilley was campaigning for Kelly Sullivan to get the role when Sullivan’s GH exit was announced. I also think KSu would have been good, but then my mind went to Cady McClain. She is and looks more in the right age than KD, and certainly has the artistic range to take on this type of character. I’m happy about this casting news for sure, but the thought of KSu or CMc in the role was exciting for me.

I’m also a huge fan of Kassie DePaiva, so I think this was a great get for DAYS and she’ll make a wonderful addition to the cast. It sure feels like the show is already gearing up now for Alison Sweeney’s big exit seemingly around this time next year by hiring some big-name talent to fill the void the absence of Sami will inevitably leave on the canvas. Very wise decision.
I admit I’m not all too familiar with Charlotte Ross, or the character of Eve for that matter, as they both must’ve aired in the time right before I first started tuning in to DAYS in the early-mid 90’s.
So I’ll sit this one out and let all of you experienced DAYS historians (!!) be the better judge of whether or not DePaiva may be the right fit to take on the role of Eve.
And thanks for that interesting story, Balthazar. It must be a really special feeling, knowing you got to witness a star in the making.January 27, 2014 at 7:02 am #425591
Eve was whiny and annoying. Ross played the role perfectly, and it would have been nice to use old clips of her and Missy Reeves when they were younger (Eve and Jennifer fought frequently over Frankie Brady). I will be interested to see how Kassi plays the part. Who are they going to pair her with? E.J.? Daniel? Brady? How about Roman?January 27, 2014 at 8:12 am #425592
I agree, I would have LOVED to see some classic Jennifer/Eve clips, but I guess that wasn’t meant to be. Eve was an annoying character, that’s true, and it’ll be really interesting to see what TPTB have imagined her to have become after 23 years during which she would have presumably grown up some.
Seeing as Eve is returning, I wondered if Frankie might also come back to town for old times’ sake. Considering what happened to him the last time he was in Salem, with Jack showing up just as he and Jennifer were about to get married, I wouldn’t expect a return, though. It seems most likely Eve will be paired in some capacity with Daniel, both because Daniel’s such a whore and because the show is still playing his relationship with Jennifer as star-crossed love never to be realized.
Part of me does also think Kassie DePaiva might have been better off as a new character, but clearly the show has plans for Eve and intended to cast her with someone. Cady McClain is a great suggestion that I could see working, and Kelly Sullivan possibly as well. But DePaiva isn’t so huge of a name that they would have just grabbed her without form of audition/read through/screen test to know that she could do what they’ll need her to do the way they need her to do it. DAYS could have easily made this role a little younger than it should be and gone for an actress just a few years older than Jen Lilley. But DePaiva fits in perfectly with Melissa Reeves, actually, so from that angle it makes a lot of sense, too.January 28, 2014 at 6:40 am #425593
De-aging of characters leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Plus, this would never have worked since Eve and Jennifer were the same age.
