On the occasion of Days of our Lives’ 13,000th episode, Glamour Magazine interviewed Ken Corday on what to expect surrounding the event (I didn’t realize it would be such a thing, but I guess when your ratings are at record lows, anything can become an event) and some of what’s coming up on the show. The link is here, and I won’t repost the whole interview here (the photo from Kim and Shane’s wedding alone is worth a click), but there are a few things that jumped out at me. Soap Opera Digest reported this as Ken Corday confirming that Drake Hogestyn has been off set due to an injury, but considering that happened and was reported months ago, it’s probably the least interesting thing Ken said.
My favorite news is that Leann Hunley’s Anna will make a return visit to the show. Visits from Matthew Ashford (Jack) and Jaime Lyn Bauer (Laura) were previously reported, and some returns that will apparently shock the audience.
Glamour: So many fan favorites will be returning soon, including Patsy Pease (Kimberly) and Charles Shaughnessy (Shane). What can you reveal about their storyline?
Ken: They don’t start airing until after Christmas. We are really way, way ahead, and we’re going to try and get closer to air time, but we do eight shows a week, so…I’m thrilled, but especially those two did not miss a beat walking on the stage. It was like they never left. Charlie had been gone longer than Patsy because she has made a few appearances at weddings, funerals, bar mitzvahs, etc. Charlie’s transition was seamless. It’s a good story. It’s interwoven with Hope’s story, and it’s great. There are more surprise returns from the past to come. Leann Hunley (Anna) will be back in Salem [as well].
The show seems to have gotten the message that the teen storylines haven’t really been a hit.
Glamour: And the teens?
Ken: The teens continue to be the teens, and I think we have pushed the envelope with them initially by having them on the air a lot around the time we hit 50. They’ve taken more of a side stage role, not backstage, but side stage, to players that have more impact. Not to say they don’t, but they have to earn their bars.
Ken apparently doesn’t usually see the show until it airs, which in the case of DAYS being this far ahead is crazy.
Glamour: How do you watch the show? Have you already seen it by the time it airs or do you watch it at night when you get home?
Ken: I can’t watch it when it airs because I’m working and there are too many distractions happening. I go home and watch it at night top to bottom by myself. Sometimes I’ll see rough cuts before they air if there’s something big to look at, but I do like to watch the show every day with commercials.
And here’s what we have to look forward to. I’m taking it as a positive sign that at least no one mentioned any of the characters on my current hit list (Andre, Eduardo, Dario, Steve).
Glamour: What storyline are you most excited for fans to see?
Ken: There are two: the one with Chad and Abigail and JJ and Gabi. They are very vibrant and good actors, the young future of the show. I’m very excited about the story Nicole will have coming up with Chloe and Deimos and with Brady and another huge return from the past. Again, a big surprise, and a great part of Nicole’s past and life experience in Salem. It’s a baby story, and those seem to work well for us.
Start your speculation engines on who from Nicole’s past comes back with a baby. Fingers crossed that it’s Sami or Kristen!

Emmy Loser: “I’m taking it as a positive sign that at least no one mentioned any of the characters on my current hit list (Andre, Eduardo, Dario, Steve).”
This comment made me laugh, EmmyLoser. Mine is the same, with the addition of Deimos.
I no longer get excited when soaps attract returning stars or big names from other soaps. It’s really about the writing. Actors bring the words to life, but if they are working with drivel, the show is not going to work. They need stories that will give them the opportunity to showcase their talents. I truly hope they will get those stories in the near future.July 20, 2016 at 7:12 am #1201875451
Yeah, that’s so true. I’m (somewhat unreasonably) optimistic that in a month or so when the Josh Griffith/Beth Milstein material is done and Ryan Quan steps in a Higley’s co-head writer, things may be better. The idea of Nicole and Chloe completing for Deimos is both ridiculous and somewhat nauseating, but I could but Deimos as a guy who spent 30 years in prison plotting this revenge and came out just hellbent on getting it at all costs, but maybe after some reflection and a near-death experience might mellow out and be a decent character. Since they’ve already got one over-the-top villain in Andre, and are approaching a second in Kate at this point, they hopefully won’t feel the need to him to keep pace.
