Who do you like the most? (not a prediction)

    1. Eileen Davidson, Days – phenomenal! She helped create an extra special great year for Days in 2013. She interacted perfectly with everyone. She showed Kristen’s evil, her vulnerability, and her cunning. I esp. loved her scenes with Marlena in May and November! This is her 3rd nomination (Days, 1997; Y&R, 2002).

    2. Arianne Zucker, Days – Nicole was outstanding in 2013! I esp. loved the confrontation scene with Eric when he accuses her of raping him. Superb! Can I wish for a tie?? This is her 3rd or 4th nomination?

    3. Katherlne Kelly Lang, B&B – not a Brooke fan. She’s always solid in her acting choices. This is her second nomination.

    4. Heather Tom, B&B – the most annoying nomination for me from this year. So sick of her! She’s won the past 3 years, and twice for Y&R back in 1993 and 1998. She has something like 14 nominations? I will be really upset if she wins yet again. And yes, I know: they give her Emmy bait material.

    1.  Eileen Davidson – should win for resurrecting Days from an abismal mess.
    2.  Arianne Zucker – BTW, her third nod.  She was nominated twice for supporting.
    3.  Katherine Kelly Lang
    4.  Heather Tom – they give her Emmy bait material every year.

I’ve seen Davidson’s submission and it’s great. I’ll have to see Katherine Kelly Lang’s to help me determine which I prefer. I’m rooting for both equally at this point because they’re both soap vets that are both looooong overdue for an Emmy on their mantle. If their could be one tie this year, I would choose Davidson and KKL.

I’m probably going to upset some people here and I could definitely be wrong, but here goes: I don’t know what Zucker and Lang submitted and I would love Davidson to finally win, however, one can’t deny the true raw emotion that Heather Tom displays once more. I know she has her five Emmys, but I don’t see Davidson beating her for another one this year.Tom’s reel is what Emmys were made for. And the two episodes flow brilliantly and need no explanation. Davidson’s reel, while very good,  doesnt transcend the sheer wonder that is Tom’s. And Lang, while competent, can’t hold a candle to Tom. I don’t know what she could submit that wouldn’t be impacted by Tom’s greatness. So that leaves Zucker. Will be interested to see what she submitted.

So I would have Tom, Davidson 1-2 for now, but await what Zucker, who can do no wrong in my book, submitted. For now, I simply can’t deny Tom just because she has five Emmys on her mantle.

Did Tom give another showy, cry-baby performance in her reel? I swear that’s all she ever gives in any of her reels each and every year, and acting – even in the Daytime drama field is so much more than that. Actors such Erika Slezak and Tony Geary have won for various types of performances, for example. Heather Tom is more or less a one-note actress and tends to always pick an episode where she is crying or suffering, and voters eat it up like crazy. I’m not sure what the obsession about Tom with voters, but even during her years at Y&R – where is arguably her best work – she wasn’t nearly as revered as she is now. It took her six years to win another after her first, yet she could possibly win four years in a row for her portrayal of a bland character? Yeah, the Daytime Emmys are truly on its last leg.

I don’t post in this section, but I do watch soaps when I find the time, and I happen to think that Eileen Davidson really does deserve to win. Davidson’s portrayal and return of Kristen Dimera was among the top of the year and it should be rewarded. I hope voters get this one right.

    1. Davidson
    2. Zucker
    3. Tom
    4. Lang

This isnt’ a prediction thread; just who you honestly think is the best. For me, it’s really a tie but the tie-breaker is that Eileen impacted Days in such a huge and positive way, helping the show to it’s best year ever imo.

Allan’s not wrong.  And neither is m.A.D.D. While I do find Heather Tom’s work to be truly top-notch, her Katie Logan Spencer is a terribly bland character while one could argue that Kristen DiMera and Nicole Walker are not fairly interesting – okay, Kristen is fascinating in Eileen’s capable hands.  And yes, I too believe Heather Tom’s Victoria Newman was much more multi-faceted than her Kelly Cramer or Katie Logan.

I would disagree, however, that Erika Slezak’s wins were for “various” types of performances with the exception of Niki Smith.  I admit to be a late-in-life Slezak convert, but I didn’t think her work was that varied.  She was just really good at what she did!  (On a totally unrelated note, I can’t help but be sad that an actress as good as Victoria Wyndham, whose Rachel Cory was Another World’s centerpiece for decades was never given the material that Slezak was handed because I think Wyndham could have been a six-tme Emmy winner herself in more creative hands).

But I digress.  I think this has to be Eileen’s year.  She played an enormous part in re-inventing Days of Our Lives last year.  The show became interesting on most fronts and kept the pace moving, but you can’t ignore her contribution.  I know Lang is long overdue, but she should be happy with the relatively surprising nomination.

On the other hand, I cited a few scenes between Ari Zucker and Greg Vaughn shortly after the Kristen fallout when he was trying to apologize to her for having accused her of raping him.  She was heartbreaking, and if she’s submitted those episodes, I wouldn’t be angry if she won.  But as an avid Ashley Abbott fan (and since Finola Hughes wasn’t nominated), I’m team Eileen.  Ari can have next year; Tom has 5 Emmys in the bag; and Lang should be happy with the nod.

    I have this strange hunch/intuition that Ari Zucker’s reel is going to win her the Emmy – can’t explain it, it’s just there. And since I wish for a tie, I will certainly be ecstatic if Eileen or Ari wins! (;

This basically sums up my opinion on the matter as well.

PujolsFan – You are so right regarding Wyndham. Highly underrated. She is definitely in my top 10 list of all time!! Great post!

Also, while I feel Tom will win, I also would vote for her based on her reel. Love Davidson, but IMHO Tom’s stands out. Would love Zucker, too, and wouldn’t rule her out, just don’t know what she submitted.

Great post, PujolsFan.  I agree with pretty much all of that, and love the Victoria Wyndham shout out.  I haven’t seen Tom’s reel yet, though.  I’m sure it’s great, but it can only have so much of an impact on my opinion of who should win for the whole year.

I think the voters should base their votes on a combination of factors, and not just the reels. For me, (and my one exception to this rule has been Maura West as Carly on ATWT) if there are several really great reels I would take into consideration two factors: has the performer never won before (Eileen, Ari, KKL, Jason T., for examples) or have they not won in a very long time (Jane Elliot, for example), and would tend to rate them higher. I feel that because so many performers deserve Emmys, these things need to be considered.

I have seen Heather Tom’s submissions, and it’s Emmy bait material. So I may very well be really disappointed. However, Eileen has a great reel that is Emmy worthy (and she chose correctly – whew!)  and I am hoping Ari chose well, too (it hasn’t been confirmed, but I believe she submitted the accusation of rape episode, and if that’s the case, it’s an Emmy caliber reel). Haven’t heard yet what KKL submitted, but I saw B&B throughout 2013 and have hard time believing she will win (but stranger things have happened).

I believe it is Eileen Davidson’s year.

There have been many critically-acclaimed actors over the years who have won more than one Emmy but were later denied just because they had won before.  This is a fact and I am relatively certain that Heather Tom will not prevail this year because she has just won three in a row.  Erika Slezak, Anthony Geary, Justin Deas and even Heather Tom lost races after having won and we can’t deny that these performers are above-average and highly respected.  Susan Flannery and Kim Zimmer come to mind as well.
