    I meant ALTERNATIVE! (:

    There have been some actresses who were never nominated, such as Kathryn Hays (Kim, ATWT) and Alison Sweeney (Sami, Days), among others, who I wish had made the list during various years. Also, Robin Strasser would have been my #1 choice many years she was not nominated…. you may notice a particular actress who I personally would have never voted for…. (;

    Haha, I did notice a certain someone with a bunch of Emmys who seems to be totally absent on your list . . .

    I totally agree with some of these!  What is this list based on?  Their submissions, their year of work, or from a fan’s perspective?

    Emmyloser: I was actually referring to Susan Lucci and not to Heather Tom (; ha ha ha

    I don’t recall that there were submissions per se in the early years, at least I didn’t know about them, until the 1990’s, so it’s just my own subjective list. 1983-84 was a tough call for me, because I loved Ann Flood and Sharon Gabet’s work on Edge Of Night, but I think Deidre Hall deserves an Emmy for all of her years of terrific work so I chose her instead (Erika Slezak won her first Emmy that year, and Susan Lucci was the other nominee).

    I’ve been watching old Ryan’s Hope episodes and actresses who deserved Emmy nominations who didn’t get recognized frm that show would include Karen Morris Gowdy (Faith), Ilene Kristen (Delia), Sarah Felder (Siobhan), Kate Mulgrew (Mary), Catherine Hicks (Faith), Felicity LaFortune (Leigh), Diana Van der Vlis (Nell), in addition to the few who were nominated: Helen Gallagher (Maeve), Nancy Addison (Altman; Jillian), and Louise Shaffer (Rae).

    Ha! Pardon the assumption.

    What is Catherine Hickland up to?  I feel like this comes up like once a year, but seriously, I would so love to see her on a show now.

    ^^  Me too!  There are some old B&B clips on youtube right now when she was subbing as Brooke during KKL’s maternity leave.  IMO no one could be Brooke better than KKL, but when I saw them a few weeks ago it did remind me that Catherine Hickland is more than capable of carrying a story line, or entire show, on her shoulders.

    (a) This pairing between posters was a cool idea.
    (b) I love that you picked Laura Wright for 2011.  Not many people around here would, but that win was so well deserved IMO.
    (c) I’ll add my list here soon too.

    This is very cool.  I really don’t have the scope of knowledge to make a list going back this far, but I love seeing the ones you guys are making.

    This is interesting. And I’ve viewed Freeman’s threads on the actors. I have to admit, here in my old age [43], that I’m losing passion for this topic. I think it’s because I don’t feel any affection for the Emmys. But, I will say this: Daytime, strange enough, made more sense than Primetime specifically with the year 2014.

    Robbalto picks my #2 pick 13 times (: Interesting that neither of us ever picks 21-time nominee Susan Lucci (;

    Emmyloser: Laura Wright won her Emmy for 2010, not 2011. I’ve always found her Carly too shrill and too “shouty”, if that’s a word…

    There were four categories this past year that imo were so completely wrong it isn’t funny (hint: the four awards Y&R won, excluding Billy Miller’s win)

    I think that Laura Wright comment was supposed to be directed to me (although EmmyLoser and I agree so much that sometimes even I wonder if we’re interchangeable haha).  I think the confusion is because I call the winners and nominees based on the award year, not the work year.  Laura Wright won in 2011 so I refer to it that way even though it was for the work in 2010.  Similarly, Eileen Davidson’s win would be 2014 since that’s when it was awarded, rather than 2013 when the work was done.
    As far as the merits of Wright’s work, this comes up a lot, and I’m generally of the opinion that the problem is predominantly in the writing rather than the performances overall.  Carly is supposed to be loud and obnoxious so I don’t mind Wright being “shouty”, but am more concerned that, no matter who is doing the writing, Carly’s characterization has been generally poor over the past decade.  More specifically about her win, I loved the work she did in 2010 and she submitted well (which is rare for her), especially compared to Debbi Morgan who should have been the frontrunner, so I was almost as thrilled as she was when she won.  I don’t hate that Heather Tom won the following year, but Laura Wright was my personal favourite then as well.

    I have to say, creating the list was a challenge. I tried my best to piece together my recollections and knowledge to put together a good list. The business with the year of work vs. year of award just adds to the confusion. But it was fun.

    My earliest soap memories are around 1973 when CBS cancelled “Where the Heart Is” and replaced it with “The Young and the Restless.” I have followed the Daytime Emmy Awards almost since their inception. Thanks for posting this thread, Freeman.

    As for the Laura Wright debacle, I find her very convincing and versatile. I would like to see a really weighty storyline for her, but with the drivel they are writing for her these days, it may be a while.

    I don’t think I even saw the reels the year that Wright won, for some reason, so I certainly don’t have anything to say against that one.  I like Laura Wright, and I do think she does good work.  As I may have mentioned once or twice, I very strongly dislike Carly as a character.  Usually, when I don’t like a character I tend to hold it against the actor at least to some degree, but Carly is a character who’s generally written to be kind of insufferable, so Wright is an exception to that.
