I won’t pay to see the actual article, so I’m hoping somewhere else will break down the changes.
The 2012 Daytime Emmy Awards are going to look very different this year, and Soap Opera Uncensored‘s Nelson Branco
has the scoop straight from the National Academy of Television Arts and
Sciences. Some of the changes: There will no longer be a limit to how
many actors from one show can submit their name for Emmy consideration
in the pre-nomination round in a category. (Previously it was two per
show.) Judging pre-nominees hopefuls will take place online and will
have a new degree of anonymity. (Meaning actors can no longer just
choose a name to vote for because they recognize it.) The top 10
pre-nominees from each category will be announced on March 2, 2012. For
Branco’s full story, with all of the other tweaks to the Emmy system, go

I e-mailed Tom about this. We’ll hopefully get a comment from NATAS tomorrow.November 17, 2011 at 7:22 am #420578
I’m certainly intrigued, but yeah, I’m not paying. NATAS will be releasing their official rules book for next year’s Emmys probably within the next month or so, I would guess, and then anybody should be able to see the changes.November 17, 2011 at 8:57 am #420579
Even though it was self gratification to the highest (and it would be a little funny if he didn’t make it in after all of this), I applaud Michael Muhney for leading the charge in change. A little too late IMO, but at least it’s something. I too won’t pay, so I’ll either wait for Tom or when the official rulebook to come out to get a grasp of these changes in-depth. But based on what jcar posted, I do like the idea of top 10 prenoms for each category.November 18, 2011 at 11:24 am #420581
Good, hopefully more people from DAYS will get recognized now with these changes!November 22, 2011 at 6:12 pm #420582
Anyone heard anything more about these changes?November 22, 2011 at 9:03 pm #420583
The Pre noms will be choose online with voters voting on 2 minute clips with no name or show givin, IN 2013 it will be a 15 minute reel but because of AMC it only will be two minutes this year as. After the prenom list it be the tradiontal one episode panel judging for the noms and winner…
Guest Stars in 2013
Also nothing in the bylaws that would not allow Internet soap stars to put themselve in acting races….November 23, 2011 at 7:34 am #420584
Thanks PaulV!November 23, 2011 at 8:48 am #420585
In theory, just pike how the prenoms came back when, this should work, but for some reason I think it could backfire in some way. Anyone can have a two minute reel that makes them look good.
As for the guest acting, it’s silly b/c there will be only 3 soaps eligible.
And for the ghetto web series thing, are there any legit ppl who are even worthy for a nod?
Thanks Paul for this! It’s sad these changes weren’t made when it would’ve matter.November 23, 2011 at 11:30 am #420586
There will be 4 soaps eligible in 2013 – B&B, DAYS, GH, Y&R and technically OLTL even though it only airs a few weeks into 2012. I agree that the guest category is not normally needed. There are very few guest stars that have material that I think would be worthy of a even a nomination.
