This will serve as the official reaction thread to the nominations that’ll be announced 5/9 @ 10AM EST on the 4th hr. of TODAY on NBC. It’ll also double as a place to publish final predictions for the various categories.

Of the none soap related categories, I am hoping that “The Talk” gets some love. Yeah, sue me I like this show. It is if “The View” took a valium. Even though there was some drama w/the old cast I did like that and the new changes are a work in progress but still watchable.

Also “Jeopardy!” looks like the lock to win the game show category of they put in that robot episode from last yr.

I went out on a limb and did some predictions for the drama categories.  This seems like the best stage for me to do them, since I’ve seen so few of the reels, and the more of the reels I see, generally the worse I am at guessing the nominees/winners:

I expect the AMC cast to be universally snubbed and very few of the OLTL’s to make it through… I do think Erika Slezak can manage a final nomination for the role.  Otherwise i expect Y&R and B&B to lead the noms.

I’m expecting GH to have a big year.  Without GL or ATWT, Y&R and B&B are two soaps instead of the four that CBS once boasted, so I expect their support will dwindle.  GH, on the other hand, is the last remaining bastion of hope over at ABC, which potentially has the support for two cancelled soaps behind it.  Not to imply that the nominations would be based on anything other than the content of the work submitted, heaven forbid.  That would be crazy!

I just read on Soap Opera Digest that the nominations are being postponed.  That seems pretty odd!  I wonder if there was some kind of accounting error or an omission or something?

I guess it was because of some deal being worked with HLN to carry the telecast.

Nominations will be announced tomorrow at 10 a.m. on the Today Show. That’s pretty cool, I must say. I wonder how many acting categories they’ll announce. Last year, I think they only announced Lead Acting Categories live on TV. Two years ago, I think we had to wait a few hours to find out which younger actors were nominated.

Yes, Kathie Lee and Hoda announcing the noms should be fun.  The two of them crack me up.

I don’t even think they announced them on air last year, just a press release.  CBS carried the telecast.  In 2009, the Today show announced them and we only got Lead/Supporting and series.  I remember that one because I was sick and DAYS got a drama series nom and I thought I was hallucinating.

How about that w/the nominations being announced on the color television. And w/those messes Kathie Lee and Hoda!

    Noms are in: http://emmyonline.tv/mediacenter/_pdf/day_1112_nominees_anounced.pdf.

Even as a non-soap fan, I am very happy at Debbie Morgan and Darnell Williams getting last noms for AMC. In other news, June Foray gets an Emmy nomination at 94 (take that, Betty White!) and Judge Judy isn’t even nominated in the Courtroom Program arguably created for that show.

That nominations announcement was kinda embarrassing. Very few categories and they didn’t really seem to know what they were talking about.

Anyway, OLTL got snubbed in the top race (AMC got in) , but Erika Slezak and Robert S. Woods both got lead acting nods. Hopefully the complete list is up now.
