I was just about to post this, too.  My initial reaction is that some of this seems unreal.  I’ll have to think more and post a more thorough response, but there are some very serious WTF candidates listed here.

Well, I think this pretty much settles the debate surrounding Kate Mansi’s age. I find it hard to believe she’d choose not to go Younger if she were eligible, especially since her best material was before her birthday.

    Where is Rena Sofer?

I’m no Maurice Benard fan but the crypt sex scenes he submitted should have been more than enough to get him a pre-nom.

I wonder if Roger Howarth, Eileen Davidson and Jane Elliot submitted.

Tyler Christopher probably submitted the Britt/Nikolas engagement party breakup scenes to get pre-nommed but he had no business in lead.

I don’t watch the other shows enough to say for sure, but as far as I can tell Peggy McKay, Doug Davidson, John McCook and Daniel Cosgrove barely had enough storyline/screentime to merit supporting pre-noms and all name-checked their way to lead ones.

I’m glad Finola Hughes dropped down to supporting.

If Gina Tognoni, Justin Hartley, Billy Miller and Tony Geary can all go lead for a few months of work, then Michelle Stafford should have too. Sure, she was only on GH for 6 months last year, but she ate the show for those 6 months and was most definitely a lead.

As far as I know, everyone who submitted in the younger categories automatically got pre-noms, so the little kids that play Emma and Spencer on GH weren’t submitted. That’s a shame. They’re both adorable and talented.

Glad that Melissa Claire Egan stopped committing category fraud and cheating her way to nominations by submitting lead reels against supporting ones. Wish Steve Burton would follow suit.

GH usually does so well in supporting actor but this year only got one pre-nom in the category. William deVry would have been deserving. Also surprised to see Dominic Zamprogna fail to get a pre-nom after just landing a nomination last year. He should have been able to scrounge up 4 minutes worth of scenes to make him competitive. Wasn’t his baby kidnapped numerous times throughout the year?

I didn’t realize Eric Braeden still submitted. And no MTS (again).

Alison Sweeney and Justin Hartley are the only lead pre-nominees who have never been nominated before (I mean, made it to the final ballot). 6 of the Best Actress pre-nominees are Emmy winners (albeit Peggy McCay won hers for prime-time and not for Days). 6 of the Best Actor pre-nominees have won. 5 of the Supporting Actress pre-noms are previous winners. 7 of the Supporting Actor pre-noms are previous winners. 3 in Younger Actress and none in Younger Actor.

All sorts of category fraud going on this year! (Bregman, McCay, Christopher, Cosgrove, Davidson, McCook, Brooks, Burton, and Clifton are all imo in the wrong categories!)

Happiest about: Alison Sweeney! Maura West! Jason Thompson! Nancy Lee Grahn! Blake Berris! Darin Brooks! Chad Duell! Camila Banus! Camryn Grimes! HALEY PULLOS! and Freddie Smith!!!!

I wish Nicolas Bechtel and Brooklyn Rae Sigler had submitted ):

Any news on the Guest acting category???

Here goes my long winded thoughts.  As always, a mixed bag.  Some really great choices that deserved to be
here, some pleasant surprises, some unpleasant surprises, and some strange
category placements.  I guess I will just
go through each category and talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly.

    Lead Actress:

                SO
glad that Alison Sweeney submitted and that she received a prenom.  I just hope that she can actually get a nomination.
Also glad to see Maura West, Laura
Wright and KKL here; they all had great material this year and should be on the
final list with Alison for sure.  I might
be in the minority about this, but I am pleasantly surprised to see Gina
here.  She has only been on for a couple
of months, but she was a lead in that time.
I know some haven’t been crazy about her take on Phyllis, but I have
    been enjoying her performances.

Peggy McCay??????  I love her, but she is in the wrong category
for sure.  The only thing that I can
think of that she would even have to submit is her speech from the WilSon
wedding, which she was very good in, but she definitely shouldn’t be in this
category.  Same with Tracy Bregman as far
as category placement goes.  She had some
good material with finding out about Michael’s cancer, so I don’t begrudge her being
on here, but definitely should be in supporting.  Kudos to Melissa Claire Egan for finally
jumping to lead because she is definitely a lead on that show.  I don’t think she really has the material
this year to warrant a nomination, but she is in the right category at
    least.

Snubs:  Ari Zucker and Melody Thomas Scott.  I didn’t think Melody would make it on here because
she seldom does unfortunately, but it is still a snub nonetheless because she
had some good performances this year.  I
am very surprised that Ari isn’t on here.
She just got a nomination last year, so she is definitely liked, and she
had really great material earlier this year.
My only thought is that maybe she didn’t submit, but that would surprise
    me.

    Lead Actor:

                Pleasantly
surprised that Eric Braeden is on here.
We know he isn’t the most popular and doesn’t always submit, but like
him or not, he is a good actor.  Glad to
see Jason Thompson on here.  Surprised
that Daniel Cosgrove and Tyler Christopher decided to go lead.  They both had some good stuff, so I’m not mad
to see them on here.  Tyler was great
earlier in the year with the reveal about Brit at his engagement party, so I’m
sure he submitted something around that.
I really like Justin Hartley as Adam, but I’m surprised that he chose to
submit with the short time that he has been on.
John McCook is not a lead actor, nor does he have any worthy material as
    far as I can remember.

                Roger
Howarth should definitely be on here for his performances at the wedding.  James Scott should also be on here, but we
    know that he didn’t submit.

    Supporting Actress:

                This
category has the biggest issues out of any of them.  Happy for Linsey Godfrey, Nancy Lee Grahn,
and Michelle Stafford.  All three are
very deserving and should be on the final list.
I’m glad that Finola dropped down to supporting, because that is
definitely the right category for her this year, and I think she has a few good
submission from early in the year.  Lisa
LoCicero had some good stuff when she found about Sonny and Ava, so I’m not mad
to see her here.  I’m glad that Kim
Matula decided to bump up to supporting because she was still eligible for
younger for part of the year, but was a LEAD actress.  Amelia is also in the wrong category.  Eileen must not have submitted, because I don’t
see her being snubbed, especially after winning last year.

                Kelly
Sullivan and Chrishell Stause… I like both actresses, but neither did anything Emmy
worthy, especially when you consider the people that were snubbed.

Snubs:  Rena Sofer, Teresa Castillo, Jen Lilley, and
Kassie Depaiva.  Rena Sofer should have
been a frontrunner for this award, so it is a HUGE snub for her not to even be
pre-nominated.  Teresa and Jen gave some
great stuff throughout the year as well, so they should have made it in over
    Kelly Sullivan and Chrishell.

    Supporting Actor:

                This
is actually a pretty good list for the most part, with the exception of Greg
Vaughn being snubbed.  So happy that
    Blake Berris submitted.  Steve Burton
should have been switched out with Greg Vaughn and then this list would be
    pretty perfect.  Actually happy for
Bryton and Kristoff; I know that not everyone here liked that storyline, but I
think they both did good work during it.

    Younger:

                I won’t
say much here…As far as I understand it, anyone that submits in younger automatically
makes it onto this list because there are so few people that submit.  Is that a correct understanding?  So, if that is true, Nicholas Bechtel and
Brooklyn Siltzer didn’t submit?  I’m glad
that some of the little kids are on here, but I don’t see them being competitive.  Very happy that Camilla Banus submitted.  She was great towards the end of her run on
    the show.

You can tell that a Daytime Emmys’ Pre-Nominations list is bad when you realize it’s going to be a chore to determine who you would be okay with seeing make the official cut.

    Also, Arianne Zucker ):

I think Alison Sweeney definitely deserves a nod and based on her body of work in daytime. I think Gina Tognoni will win lead actress. The scene in the living room with Jack where she confronts about Kelly wss amazing spellbinding and just awesome stuff. It’s the kind of emmy reel that they absolutely love. My final nominees would Gina, Laura Wright, Alison Sweeney, Heather Tom and Maura West.

Maura West & Bryan Craig BOTH should have submitted Crypt Sex scenes. Absolutely phenomenal in them.

Alison Sweeney rightfully deserves a nod and win for Days, but who knows what will go down in Lead Actress. Predictions for nominations: Lang, Tom, West, Tognoni, Sweeney. Veteran drag-out.

Finola submitting in Supporting was probably best for her, although rather fraudulant. Her, Lisa, &  Michelle Stafford will all get nominations. Stafford or Fin for the win.

Supporting Actor is difficult. Kristoff  has been on Y&R for over 25 years, he should not be there. Maybe Bryton or Chad for first-time wins in their move up to here? Not sure.

Bryan Craig & Camryn Grimes should have Younger wins locked up safely.

    Really Early, but Possible Winners:

    Lead Actor: Billy Miller, Y&R
    Lead Actress: Alison Sweeney, DAYS
    Supporting Actor:  Blake Berris, DAYS
Supporting Actress: Michelle Stafford (or Finola), GH
    Younger Actor: Bryan Craig, GH
    Younger Actress: Camryn Grimes, Y&R

After getting over some of the shock, my initial reaction was more about a few specifics than the overall lists.

For one thing, why oh why does Y&R always get so many prenoms?  I’m not questioning the quality of the acting on that show, as I know they have some very strong performers, but so do all of the shows.  Among prenom categories that were competitive, they have 18 of the 42 slots.  That’s ridiculous.  It makes me want to go back to the system where each show just submitted a limited number per category, like two or three.  Yes, it did exclude some deserving performers, but not as much as this system does now.  How does a show have six lead actors at all, let alone prenommed?  It’s ridiculous.  Seriously, which “lead” prenom do we think had the least appearances on their show in 2014?  My final three guesses were Justin Hartley, Billy Miller and Peggy McCay.  The Emmys say they make the system as fair as possible by including equal numbers of judges from each show whenever possible.  So I guess that means either the Y&R is far more eager to judge than any other show’s casts or their four-minute clips just blew the competition away.  I could buy the former, but not the latter.  I know this is nothing new, but I feel especially annoyed about it this year, because . . .

The other reason I was so taken aback by the list is because of some of the glaring omissions.  DAYS, for example, is represented in lead and supporting actress by three women: the very deserving Alison Sweeney and then Peggy McCay who, sure, has her moments but is only on once a month, and Chrishell Stause, who I can’t imagine what she submitted to even make this list.  It was very disappointing not to see someone like a Jen Lilley or Kassie DePaiva make supporting, but it’s actually worse that DAYS got a prenom for someone who really didn’t stand out at all.  I would have to guess Eileen Davidson didn’t submit, but these awards are wacky, so who knows.  No Arianne Zucker was surprising.  No Rena Sofer was very surprising.

Other than the Y&R overload and DAYS’ only supporting actress nominee being one of the last people I would have chosen, things were fine for me.  Yes, some category placements were surprising, but probably more that I was okay with than that bothered me.  It’s nice to see some new blood mixed in with the some old same olds, although upon closer inspection most of the new blood is Y&R people, which makes it a mixed bag because their same old same olds are also still competing.  It’s nice seeing some of the kids submitted, even if they are mostly a non-factor (though I wouldn’t count them out altogether — Lauren Boles has a couple of episodes that are as charming as Linsey Godfrey’s was last year).  I do wish Nicholas Bechtel and Brooklyn Rae Seltzer had thrown their hats into the ring as well.

Anyway, congratulations to all of the prenoms.  Hopefully I am less bothered when nominations are announced (though I know I won’t be, because most of these lists have pretty easy top halves and bottom halves, and I just know the nominations won’t reflect my thoughts on the matter).
