After much turmoil and a really bad year, The View is gearing up for its 18th season. Only 3 of the 5 seats have been filled so far!

It was announced on July 10th that Rosie O’Donnell will be returning to The View as a permanent co-host for Season 18!!!

It has just been announced that actress and activist Rosie Perez and Nicole Wallace will be joining Rosie and Whoopi for the new season!

Season 18 premieres September 15th on ABC!

I’m sad because frankly to me, she was the ONLY person on the show worth watching.  However, what excites me is the idea of her doing her own talk show. She’s basically said she wants to do “an intelligent talk show where you have room to breath” (a quote from her, paraphrased).   I LOVE THIS IDEA.  Apparently she is talking to CNN (Jeff Zucker) and I’d love to see this come to fruition. I also think it would be better for her than to try and launch a syndicated talk show simply because she won’t be directly competing against the other syndicated shows and thus would have a larger chance at success.

I’m hearing rumors that the network (ABC) is looking to really re-boot “The View” and that Elizabeth and Barbara are possibly leaving as well.    My guess is that they would keep Whoopi and Sherri and keep Barbara as a consultant and occasional guest and would hire some newer faces to round-out the rest of the panel.

Who should be hired to replace Joy?

Back when they were looking to replace Rosie and Star, people in the conversation besides Whoopi and Sherri were Mario Cantone, Gayle King, Kathy Griffin, and Roseanne Barr.

Since then, Gayle King hosts CBS Morning News, and Kathy Griffin hosts her own show on Bravo, so those two are probably out.

So that leaves us with Mario Cantone and Roseanne Barr.

I would add Joan Rivers to the mix, however she lives and films her reality show in California, so I don’t know what will happen to that. I would love for them to bring Leah Remini in, because I loved her on The Talk.

Other websites suggested Susie Essman, Hoda Kotb, Sharon Osbourne, etc.

    Who would you hire.

Ali Wentworth was fun filling in for Barbara during her absence. I’d love to see her take over for Joy. She kind of fits in with Joy as a shock value type personality.

I could see that happening. I was also think of Rachel Campos-Duffy. She auditioned back when they were looking for a replacement for Debbie and Lisa, and she has guest hosted a couple times since then. I would love to see that happen. She is a die-hard republican, but shes not annoying about it like Elisabeth.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s contract isn’t being renewed for the next season. Her firing has been rumored to be the result of focus groups saying she’s “extremely Conservative”. Not one to defend that mindset, but isn’t that what makes the show? Differing opinions. Oh, well. My ish is “The Talk” anyways.

There’s a rumour that “The View” will be going through a major overhaul next season with Elisabeth and Barbara also departing. I think that would be a risky move since “The Talk” has gained viewership big-time this season.

Confirmed: Hasselbeck OUT at “The View”… Show to “refocus” and “reboot”…

I am glad, she is annoying and almost never well-informed. Can’t stand her.  But honestly, in truth, w/out Joy and Elizabeth the show is going to lack that spark that makes great TV and I doubt the show will ever be as exciting or get as much press coverage.

I’m guessing that Barbara will start to transistion into a producer-only role and will stop being on-screen at some point, either next season or the one after that.

Whoopi needs to leave to do more movies and Sherrie needs her own Sitcom. So I say cancel the show this year folks.

Oh, I guess I was right. haha. I dunno why it took them this long to get rid of Hasselbeck.
I don’t really see why ABC would cancel the show. It still gets great ratings. It’ll be interesting to see what happens.
Can we have Rosie back now, please?

The co-hosts don’t fight like they used to so I’m not surprised about this. I think they’ve gotten way too comfortable. ABC will probably get more loud and outspoken hosts that will fight on the air.

I could tell for a long time now that Joy was just sort of “over it” and had clearly had enough of the show.    Elizabeth, well I’ve never liked her. I am a bit shocked though that they decided to part ways with her, I figured that they liked having her on the show, as she always brought publicity with her.

I am curious how they will go about casting this program now.   I also hope they give Joy a special farewell episode since she’s been there since day 1.     I remember when this show launched, I was excited about the idea of the show.    I enjoyed it through the years and during the Lisa Ling years it was appointment TV for me.    The Rosie season was excellent for me too, though, I hated Elizabeth.

I hope they get somebody with a lot of TV expirenece and somebody that knows about FACT CHECKING.

If you really care about fact checking then you should want the whole panel replaced because none of them check their facts with Whoopi and Sherri being the biggest culprits.

I’m not sure Sherri knows what a fact is to be honest. Whoopi I think tries too hard to appear cool and calm, and in return comes across as not really caring much at all.

I would love to see somebody like Joan Lunden or Maria Shriver take over “The View”…
