This is a GREAT set of nominees! I would have preferred Kate Mansi for Days to have made it in to the five slots, but I am thrilled! 4 of my 5 got in! I would argue that Tracey E. Bregman and Mary Beth Evans belong in the Supporting Actress category….
1. KASSIE DePAIVA as EVE LARSON, Days Of Our Lives
So happy she is nominated! This was my #1 must be nominee! She was superb throughout the year – her confrontations with Jennifer and Paige, her grief over Paige’s death, one great Emmy reel after another! She has submitted grief scenes. While I hope she wins, I truly love all the actresses in this category. This is her 2nd nomination; she was nommed for OLTL for 2004.
2. FINOLA HUGHES as ANNA DEVANE, General Hospital
Anna had great scenes surrounding Duke’s death and the aftermath. She won her Emmy for 1990-91 and this is her 6th nomination.
3. MAURA WEST as AVA JEROME, General Hospital
She had great scenes when Ava was “dying” and again on the witness stand when she admitted she was really Ava and not Denise. This is her 9th nomination and she has won 3 times.
4. MARY BETH EVANS as KAYLA BRADY, Days Of Our Lives
She was very moving in her scenes with Peggy McCay’s Caroline in particular. Not much story for Kayla in 2015, but she was terrific anyway. This is her first nomination for acting (she is a double nominee this year, with an acting nomination for The Bay, which I have seen and she is the lead on that show and quite good in it).
5. TRACEY E BREGMAN as LAUREN FENMORE BALDWIN, The Young and the Restless
She had great scenes when Michael was being a jerk and separated from Lauren. She doesn’t belong in this category but I am glad she’s the sole Y&R nominee in this category (esp. happy that Gina Tognoni is not among the nominees)March 24, 2016 at 5:53 pm #601177
First let me say that I love this group of actresses and I would not be upset to see any of them win. It’s really a no-lose situation. That said…
Maura West has won three times in this category. Her work in the cancer storyline was amazing. She did excellent work this year, but I would like to see other actresses recognized.
Finola Hughes has won previously, but that was 25 years ago, so it would be nice to see her win again, much like Susan Flannery won in 1975 and 2000.
I usually do not go for departed actors, but Kassie Depaiva set the gold standard in 2015. Her body of work is an embarrassment of riches and boasts a plethora of potential Emmy reels.
Tracey Bregman seems like a bit of a stretch as a lead, but she is very good and will undoubtedly submit a competitive reel.
I am so thrilled to see Mary Beth Evans receive her first Lead Actress nomination.
1. Kassie DePaiva, Days of Our Lives
2. Finola Hughes, General Hospital
3. Mary Beth Evans, Days of Our Lives
4. Tracey Bregman, The Young & the Restless
5. Maura West, General HospitalMarch 24, 2016 at 6:01 pm #601182
I agree for the most part Rob…. but I’d put Maura above Tracey B thoMarch 24, 2016 at 9:52 pm #601461
1. Kassie DePaiva, DOOL
2. Tracey Bregman, Y&R
3. Finola Hughes, GH
4. Maura West, GH
5. Mary Beth Evans, DOOL
Firstly, I don’t think TB really has a shot here, but I like her a lot so I’m personally going to rank her 2nd. I wouldn’t mind her or Finola winning if KDP loses, but I can’t see that happening if she has made it this far. As for Maura West, she’s among the best of the best, but her work seemed tired this year. Kind of like how a lot of people felt about Michelle Stafford in her last years at Y&R. MBE has no business being nominated here, especially over Laura Wright or even MCE, but I’m not exactly offended by it either.

Kassie DePaiva all the way!
2. Finola Hughes
3. Tracey Bregman
4. Maura West
5. Mary Beth EvansMarch 25, 2016 at 5:08 am #601499
1. Kassie DePavia
2. Maura West
3. Finola Hughes
4. Tracy Bregman
5. Mary Beth EvansMarch 25, 2016 at 7:36 am #601513
I really like all five of these nominees and even though I als was surprised to see Mary Beth Evans and Tracy Bregman in lead, it is what it is. DAYS has a habit of submitting actors in the categories that feel more appropriate for the coming year than the previous year, possibly because they’re thinking of the last few months of shows they’ve been filming, which won’t air for five or six months. Anyway, my blind preferences:
1. Kassie DePaiva
2. Finola Hughes
3. Tracy Bregman
4, Mary Beth Evans
5. Maura West
I love Maura, and I’m happy she was nominated, but I don’t want to see her win again this year. MBE had some very moving moments with Kayla and Caroline and, the one that stands out most for me, when she tells Bo that he has an inoperable brain tumor. But she spent most of the year in the background. I don’t remember Lauren having much story last year either, but I love TEB, and she’s always great. But i would much, much rather see the win go to either Finola or KDP. Finola was so great at infusing heart and soul into all that stuff with Duke’s murder, and she always delivered. But obviously I’m rooting for KDP to win this and really have been since the Eve/JJ affair blew up back in May. Eve was so complex and interesting, and KDP was stellar even before the stuff with Paige’s murder, which she knocked out of the park.March 25, 2016 at 9:48 am #601550
I love these nominees. I can’t say I’m too upset about Laura Wright’s snub. As much as I loved her work as Lena Spencer, that was only a few minutes of screen time. And her work as Carly wasn’t particularly memorable last year, mostly due to lackluster writing.
I’m happy for first time nominee Mary Beth Evans. But she clearly wasn’t a lead and much like her onscreen mother last year, I’m sure her reel will reflect that and take her out of the running.
My only exposure to Tracey Bregman has been in Y&R acting reels for her onscreen husband and son over the last few years. Every time I thought she outacted her nominated costars and couldn’t understand why she wasn’t nominated herself so I’m glad to see her on this list. But just like Evans, being a supporting actress in lead handicaps her. I doubt she can piece together a reel that would place her higher than 4th.
Maura West is a dynamo and I’d caution anyone against underestimating her. She was brilliant in the cancer scenes with Easton and I could definitely see her beating a more buzzed about performance from Days just like she did last year.
It’s no secret I adore Finola and couldn’t be happier to see her nominated in lead again where she belongs. Her work throughout Duke’s death story was glorious and she’d make an incredibly deserving winner as well.
I’ve loved Kassie DePaiva’s work for decades and it’s criminal she only has one nomination and no wins for her work as Blair Cramer. I’d love to see her finally win her first Emmy for a fantastic year of work on Days. As phenomenal as West and Hughes were last year, I can’t deny that it’s DePaiva’s year.
5. EvansMarch 25, 2016 at 3:07 pm #601615
I am going to chime in and agree with OTLfan when saying to never count out or underestimate Maura West! I know so many people here don’t want her winning again, but the fact of the matter is, if what was revealed to be her submissions are true, she has one hell of a reel packing range & impact that could very well lead her to her 4th career win!
As of right now, it’s a race between the women of GH & DePaiva!
Can’t wait to check out the submissions!March 26, 2016 at 7:40 am #601691
Want to watch all the reels before voting, but am leaning toward Hughes first then DePaiva based on what they submitted.

Without the best performance in the lineup–Karla Mosley (“The Bold and the Beautiful”)–I don’t care.
