    THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL
    I didn’t watch 100% of the episodes in 2014; at least 50%, so others might have better episodes the show could submit; I also can’t remember if half hour shows get more than 2 episodes? With that preamble, I would choose the October 24 & 27 episodes, where Rick confronts Caroline and Ridge. Another strong episode would be when Katie told Brooke about her “love” relationship with Ridge. Or they could go the “action” route and submit Bill’s scheme to push Ridge out of a helicopter…

    DAYS OF OUR LIVES
    I would submit Will & Sonny’s wedding for episode #1. For #2 the possibilities are the “fake reveal” (E.J. imagines  that Sami finds out about his affair with Abigail), or E.J. in the morgue with a grieving Sami. I’m trying to think of episodes that are great all the way through. I think they lost the Emmy last year due to the fact that their second episode was half superb and half average – and the show SO deserved to win last year. Anyone have any other submission ideas?

    GENERAL HOSPITAL
    Hallowedding/induced labor is their potential Emmy winner from 2014. This episode was suspenseful, entertaining, gripping, intense and powerful. Perhaps Gabriel’s death. I personally loved the episodes where Ava narrates how A.J. killed Connie and the one where she narrates how SHE murdered Connie. I’m trying to think of other episodes that are great all the way through. Fortunately, there are no Richard Simmons appearances that would alienate the blue ribbon panel! (;

    THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS
    I would go way back to January and submit the confrontation between Billy and Adam in January as episode #1. Geez, I’m drawing a blank of an episode that was superb all the way through? Many episodes have great scenes in them but also lots of mediocre ones.  I personally loved the episode where Nick confronted Mariah about her gaslighting Sharon by pretending to be dead Cassie, but I don’t remember what else was in that particular episode.

    Obviously, I think Days should win for 2014, after getting seriously rooked for its best year ever for 2013.

    Any other episodes that you can remember that were worthy of Emmy consideration – production, writing, direction, acting, technical aspects??

    General Hospital
    Although virtually everyone was a little creeped by it, the CRYPT SEX episodes (April 24-25, 2014) truly showcased the phenomenal power of Maura West, Maurice Benard, and Bryan Craig. The trifecta gave it everything and the script was great. Not only should this be Bryan Craig’s submission reel, the 4/25/14 ep could potentially be a contender for a submission for GH.

    I think GH really needs to slow it down when selecting their ultimate submission here. It seems as if last year they just automatically jumped at Nurses Ball eps.

    Hallowedding could be in the running, but it’s very OTT. Laura was great, but Roger was rather cartoonish.

    The Ava narration episodes would definitely be more suspenseful, slow-burning, “prestigious” submissions. Plus, everybody loves Maura West. And Ava Jerome.

    I personally hated the crypt sex episodes but of course I hate Sonny so much and that is the likely reason (;

    I didn’t find Roger Howarth “cartoonish” at all in the Hallowedding episode. That episode was suspenseful and had great “build” throughout imo.

    I don’t remember the Nurses Ball episodes all that well from 2014. I remember Brad singing a song for Lucas, and Kevin finding out about Lucy’s affair with Scott…

    They should definitely stay away from the blowing up of that clinic “action” episode, I think that was last summer?

    Frank Valentini is notorious for submitting the wrong episodes, esp. when he was EP at One Life To Live ):

    Exactly. I really hope, and do think, that Frank will slow it down this year and pick more subtle, nuanced submissions. Nurses Ball was way too flasy, overwrought, and seemingly good but it didnt have any prestige factor whatsoever. (even the 2013 return).

    I’d go with the Ava narration episodes, AJ’s funeral, maybe Hallowedding, etc. I’ll have to look more into the specific storylines over the past year, I truly have forgotten a lot!

    For DAYS, the episode that stands out the strongest in my mind is the one where Nick is murdered, which, at least in my memory, was all focused on people’s grudges with Nick and Nick regretting some of this actions.  It was heartfelt and suspenseful, and involved a lot of different characters and several disparate storylines being drawn together.  And the ending was phenomenal.  I agree that DAYS could have submitted a little better last year, because even though the wedding scenes were fantastic, there was some stuff that just didn’t matter at all, with Cameron and Abigail if I recall.  Nick’s murder, the episode where Hope arrests Gabi for murdering Nick (this one was a lot more subtle, but I absolutely love it), and Will and Sonny’s wedding were the episodes that stand out the most to me.  I think the fantasy reveal episode with EJ and Sami is too limited, and also didn’t really happen, so I don’t think it would work.  I generally remember good stuff surrounding Sami and Kate taking over DiMera and stuff surrounding EJ’s murder, but no episodes that stand out in their entirety.

    I didn’t see the GH crypt sex episodes, so I can’t comment on that.  The Hallowedding episodes were good, though they don’t feel like a winning submission to me.  I don’t remember the episodes surrounding Gabriel’s death being strong throughout.

    I didn’t see enough of B&B or Y&R to pick anything.  I did see the episodes where Nick confronted Mariah, and they weren’t compelling enough to make me keep watching the show past a few days, so I don’t think they’d be terribly competitive.

    If DAYS submits the fake out episode or the episode with EJ/Sami in the morgue, they will 100% deserve to not be nominated for Drama Series.  Both of those episodes sucked.

    If DAYS wans to compete for Drama Series, they need to submit Will/Sonny wedding episode along with Nick’s murder episode.

    do we know if the shows are submitting one or two tapes this year?

    Young and The Restless either Shick wedding or Billy/Adam showdown a the gravesite.
    Bold and The Beautiful- I will say Brill Wedding or Rick confronting Ridge and Caroline
    Days: Nick Murder or Wilson Wedding
    General Hospital: 12000 Episode with Robin/Patrick good by or Cypet Sex/Car Wreck.

    It’s two for the hourlong shows and two back-to-back pairs for B&B.

    So Ali could choose to submit both the “fake reveal” and Sami with E.J. in the morgue? She has far more choices than just those two but I think if she did choose those two she would win win win! (:

    Oh, sorry to be unclear, I meant for drama series.  For performers, it’s one hourlong and one back-to-back pair for B&B.  Ali still has to pick just one performance. 🙂

    If Ali picks anything it needs to be the Morgue episode….the fake out episode was awful acting and James Scott’s worst performance to date.

    Even then, I still feel Sweeney has weaker submissions this year.

    Ari Zucker should be the Lead Actress rep from DAYS this year, she was far and away better than Sweeney…but alas DAYS is CLEARLY pushing Sweeney hard in this category.
