We don’t know who is submitting and in which category so my category placements are subjective. I could only pare down Supporting Actress to 12, lol! The acting on soaps is superb! I have put in BOLD my top four (and top five in Supporting Actress) but I must admit I love all of these actors and actresses. They will likely “round up the usual suspects”, which I truly hope they don’t do this year – new blood for 2015, please!

Kassie DePaiva was my MVP for 2015. Ironically, her last airdate is February 2 ): She deserves an Emmy for her work as a grieving mother on Days!

This is great, Freeman!  I was thinking of doing the opposite and making lists of people we don’t want to get a prenom but probably will, like Anthony Geary and Peter Bergman.

Actors I wish would be left off the list:

    Maurice Benard, GH
    Peter Bergman, Y&R
    Eric Braeden, Y&R
    Steve Burton, Y&R
    Anthony Geary GH
    Thorsten Kaye, B&B
    Billy Miller, GH
    Stephen Nichols, Days
    Thaao Penghlis, Days

Actresses I wish would be left off the list:

Amelia Heinle, Y&R (no to 3 in a row)
Hunter King, Y&R (no to 3 in a row)
    Gina Tognoni, Y&R
    Heather Tom, B&B
Laura Wright, GH (sorry, robbalto, a rare disagreement! )

    and two possible category frauds:
(fine with either of these in Supporting Actress not in Lead Actress)

    Katherine Kelly Lang, B&B
    Peggy McCay, Days

I’d rather not see Laura Wright get a prenom this year either, unless she’s in the supporting category.  She does great work, but Carly has become such a diminished character.  She still gets a good amount of airtime, but based on driving story, she’s less of a lead than Peggy McCay is on DAYS.  I have a harder time with the Y&R actors because I see so little of it over the year, but I have yet to be impressed at all with Gina Tognoni as Phyllis, and I didn’t think Peter Bergman did nothing to make that dual role work any better than the silly writing did.  Also wouldn’t be particularly keen on seeing Thorsten Kaye or Heather Tom on the list for this year.

I’d like to see a nomination ballot in which lead players don’t seek supporting nominations … and one in which actors who play opposite each other (especially as couples), who are equally prominent, are not placed in separate categorical levels.

I will be working on my Prenomination Dream Ballot. It will probably be very similar to Freeman’s!

In the meantime, I hope this does not derail the thread, but… just to prove that Freeman and I have a few differences! 🙂

    The Case for Laura Wright
    1. She is one of the few actresses that was consistently front-burner for the entire year.
    2. She had a number of strong scenes that would make for great Emmy reels.
    3. She brings a lot to every scene, whether it is casual or emotional. She brings her A-game everyday.
    4. Her performance somehow managed to transcend the abysmal writing on GH last year.

For me, #3 is perhaps the most important consideration. There are others I am pulling for, like Ryan Carnes and Vinessa Antoine, who may not have strong reels but consistently deliver compelling performances. GH actors like Wright, Carnes, Antoine, and Lisa LoCicero bring so much nuance to every scene in which they appear.

That said, I would also like to post an appeal for anyone assembling a ballot or casting a vote in Daytime.

    The Case for New Faces
It’s time for some new blood instead of the same old faces. Yes, the vets are good, but they have received plenty of recognition, in some cases for endlessly delivering the same schtick. Unless they did something new and exceptionally compelling, I would ask you to consider some of the newer talent who have not yet been recognized. Some examples:

Billy Flynn, Days of Our Lives
Jen Lilley, Days of Our Lives
    Vinessa Antoine, General Hospital
    Teresa Castillo, General Hospital
    Ryan Carnes, General Hospital
Karla Mosley, The Bold & the Beautiful
Justin Hartley, The Young & the Restless

There are many other examples; these are just a few that pop into my head.

Also want to add my support for this comment from DS0816: “I’d like to see a nomination ballot in which lead players don’t seek supporting nominations … and one in which actors who play opposite each other (especially as couples), who are equally prominent, are not placed in separate categorical levels.”

Nice to see a post from you, pujolsfan!

Here are my picks for final nominations:

    Best Younger Lead Actor:

Casey Moss as J.J. Deveraux, DAYS, NBC
Freddie Smith, Jr., as Sonny Kiriakis, DAYS, NBC
Bryan Craig as Morgan Corinthos, GH, ABC
Tequan Richmond as T.J. Ashford, GH, ABC

Reign Edwards as Nicole Avant, BB, CBS
Kate Mansi as Abigail Deveraux, DAYS, NBC

2 things i find wrong with your list,

    1. freddie smith has already said he submitted for lead, therefore cannot be nominated in the younger actor category.

    2. pretty sure kate mansi is too old to be nominated in the younger actress category, as well as, she has never made the cut yet, can’t see it happening now.

I feel cold for being unmoved by your arguments, robbalto!  I certainly agree with the first three points, and wouldn’t go out of my way to disagree on the last point, but it’s not enough for me.  After a brief period of actually kind of liking Carly, a character I have always rather disliked, in 2015 I feel like the writing threw Carly into the worst of both worlds where she’s still not prominent or important as she should be as a character in her own right and I can’t stand her again.  It’s not Wright’s fault, but because she is giving it her all in every scene, Carly’s constant emotional pleas to Jason (about any aspect of his life in which she can involve herself) have become incredibly tiresome and annoy.  I just can’t get behind Laura Wright being on the Emmy shortlist for Carly crying over Sonny and whining about Jason, particularly not a lead Emmy.  I know the writing of the character isn’t her fault, but of course that’s something all of the actors have to deal with and is a factor for everyone.

I will jump on the Laura Wright bandwagon with Robbalto and
gdfl.  I don’t think she is worthy of a
final nomination, as there were some ladies who gave better performances overall
IMO, but I definitely think she is in the top 10 Lead actresses of the
year.  I think she is likely to get a
prenomination between her name and her material.  I was thinking that with the new rule in
place of now being able to submit scenes from two episodes for the nomination
round, Laura Wright is definitely one that could benefit greatly from
this.  She could be a huge threat to get
a nomination if she submitted the anniversary episode of her as Lena Spencer,
and then submitted her best Carly episode.
She could show a huge range, since she played two characters this year,
which almost no one else has.

On a side note, more submission information has come in; I
figured we could make a new thread once we get the prenoms on Wednesday, but
there wasn’t enough yet to warrant its own thread!  Billy Flynn told Michael Fairman in an
interview that he has submitted himself in LEAD, but no word yet on what he
submitted in this round.  I’m really glad
that he submitted in the category he belongs in, because often newcomers will
submit in supporting regardless of whether they were lead or supporting.  Also, Jason Thompson gave an interview this
week saying that he did submit himself, but he did not clarify what category
    nor what he submitted.
