I know this was mentioned, but then it seemed to be dismissed.  I’m about 94% sure that there’s a problem with some of the acting reels as posted on HLN.  The only shows I watched when they aired were the DAYS actors’ episodes, so those are the only ones I could say seemed to be missing something off the top of my head.  I went to soapcentral.com, which has daily soap episode recaps dating back to 1996, and it confirmed what I thought.

On HLN, Arianne Zucker’s reel ends with Nicole still at the house with Daniel, but when the show aired, it ended with Nicole rushing to the Town Square, climbing the stairs where she’d claimed Jennifer made her loose her baby, and threatening to harm herself with a scalpel.

On HLN, Chandler Massey’s reel ends with Will asking Marlena is she thinks he’s gay, but when the show aired, the conversation continued a little past that and then was interrupted by Sami bursting in and accusing Marlena of telling Rafe about her tryst with EJ.

On HLN, Peggy McCay’s reel goes from the story Caroline is telling about Lexie to when she realizes she was confused about leaving the Brady Pub to go home.  I remember Bo and Caroline then leaving the pub to see Kayla at the hospital and discussing the possibility Caroline has Alzheimer’s.  Based on the summary on soapcentral, the posted reel might have scenes from the end of one episode and the start of another, with the episode split occurring when Caroline gets really flustered and thinks Bo is Shawn.

Did anyone notice similar issues on the reels for any of the other shows?  Would the reels have needed to be edited for some reason before being posted on HLN, and does that mean that any or all of them could be different that the actual reels the voters would have watched?

I’m not sure there’s much to be said or done about it, certainly not at this late date, but it’s worth noting for those of us who watched the reels and used those to base our predictions.

I was confused with Soap Central listing Max Ehrich episode airdate as January 1, 2013.

I remember reading somewhere that since they were delayed and the ep was supposed to air last year he got permission to submit it anyways.

And as for what EmmyLoser mention, that is interesting. Do you know the dates for those episodes b/c I would love to to see the additional scenes for Ari and Peggy. Here’s Chandler’s reel.

I guess Ehrich’s material would of aired in Canda since they are a day before the US.

Just watched Zucker’s reel and it did cut off that final scene in the town square.  Most of the other reels I have watched have said “end of reel” but her’s just ended.

I probably should have written the dates down when I figured them out.  I thought maybe our Emmy Citations thread would be helpful, but none of the DAYS actors submitted episodes we’d cited.  Tsk tsk.  But I believe Peggy’s was late October, maybe October 24th, and Ari’s was maybe November 9th?  They’re both mentioned in the DAYS OF OUR LIVES thread, but it’s hard to nail down the date specifically.  I can look again and figure it out.

    McCay’s is October 10th.
    Zucker’s is November  8th.

Soap Central has them dated: http://soapcentral.com/emmys/news/2013/0521-emmy_coverage_clips_01.php

Wow is right.  How many other tapes were wrongly edited?  McCay could win on the reel alone and could pull out the career win like Cooper did in 2008.

Maybe I’m missing something, or perhaps this problem w/the incorrect tape editing was already resolved behind the scenes during the judging round, but… how do we know what tapes the judges really saw – the faultless reels which the actors thought they submitted OR the flawed ones as posted on the HLN website?
I’m not concerned here so much as for my predictions as I’d be if I were, ie., Ari Zucker, who’s just learning this news now.
I think for McCay, it wouldn’t make that much of a difference because IMO the race in her category is really down to Stafford vs. Tom. But being in a category like the supporting where the race is so tight this year and everyone’s apparently divided over who had the best reel, Zucker should certainly be alarmed since the flawed tape (if that’s the one the judges saw) could certainly put her at a disadvantage to her competition (that final scene IMO is important and might showcase more range on her part). I agree w/what EmmyLoser stated over in the supporting actress predictions thread about everyone underestimating her potential in this race, in which to me, it’s down to Zucker vs. KK Lang, w/KKL slightly ahead if you were to just base your judgment on watching the reels alone, not the stellar performance Zucker gave all year, as any regular DAYS viewer such as myself could easily attest to. If judges were to have seen that final scene, perhaps this might’ve pushed her into the lead spot?
I think someone needs to point this issue out, as late as it may seem, to the judges ASAP and ask them what tape they saw.
It would only be fair to Zucker.

Thanks for those links, jcar and eastwest!

I’m also wondering if some of the other reels are not quite right, but I wouldn’t really know in any of the other cases.  Freddie Smith’s seems short, but I didn’t follow up on that one because he seems like a non-factor in that race.  Most of the other shows had reels that looked more official, with intro photos and/or an “End of Reel” panel, so it seems more likely they’re correct.  But I don’t know.

It’s my wishful thought that the judges would have gotten correct reels and the issues with these are only with what’s loaded online.  Maybe I’ll PM Tom about it just to see if he can shed any light on the situation or alert someone.

So it looks like ALL of the DAYS reels on HLN are incomplete….I suspected something was up from day 1.

Obviously these are not the reels the blue-ribbon panel has seen.

Just watched McCay’s “corrected” reel and it moves her up in my rankings.  If this is her real reel she could be an upset special.

I guess we’ll never really know which tapes voters saw unless the panel releases some sort of official statement on this issue, which I feel all the DAYS nominees, who might’ve been put at a great disadvantage from this oversight, rightfully deserve. I’d certainly be curious to know, as it definitely could’ve influenced the voting process. There’s probably not a lot that can be done at this late stage with voting long over.
Hopefully, the editing problem rests only with the reels on the HLN website.
Huge props though to EmmyLoser for the great detective work and reminding us to take a closer look! And, to laurInhardy, who I believe initially made us all aware.

Well, I suppose we now know why Julie Berman and not Ari Zucker won….. 🙁
