Imagine my surprise yesterday when I checked into the TVGuide.com Soaps Recaps page and found the following summary for yesterday’s (Oct 18) DOOL episode (http://www.tvguide.com/soap-operas-update/days-of-our-lives — text included below).  Looks like someone messed it up.  Maybe Days should hire whoever wrote it — it sounds like fun!  I think it would be great timing to have Lucas and Billie back in Salem.

Here’s the summary that was posted:

Marlena has a dream in which John warns her to remember that “Steve” is in trouble. He adds that while he was gone from Salem, Steve was tortured by the DiMeras and has been “programmed.” When she wakes, Marlena gets a call that Steve has checked himself into the psych ward. As Kate prepares for her own press conference, Lucas interrupts and blasts her for setting up Sami again. When he asks what she must do to end this, Kate demands that Sami tell her the truth about what happened the night she saved his life. Pleading with her to stop the hatred, Lucas reminds Kate she could lose him and Will if she continues. Kate counters she’s trying to protect him. She then boasts of taking the video of her lifting the beam from his leg and claims a professor at MIT confirmed that Sami alone could not have moved it like that. Unimpressed, Lucas again warns her about losing him and storms out. When the press conference begins, she confirms that E.J. is the co-owner of her company and that he was cleared of any charges filed against him. Sami is disgusted when she finds Billie and E.J. laughing together. Alone with Billie, Sami reminds her that E.J. shot John. Billie guesses she might be jealous but Sami warns her to beware of him. E.J. returns and reminds Billie he warned her Sami would say this. Alone with him, Billie vows to end their business if she senses something wrong. Next, Lucas confronts Billie about E.J. and lectures her about how dangerous he is. Grabbing one from the Salem P.D., Sami switches DVDs used for Kate’s presentation. E.J. sees her and senses she’s feeling guilty about something. After boasting of their morality code in the new business, Kate switches on the DVD to tell the story about Mythic and the reporters watch Kate and E.J. having sex. Billie sees this and blasts E.J. for sleeping with her mother.

The recap is from February 2007 there must of been some sort of glitch on the website.  This was during Hogan Sheffer’s time as head writer.  I remember the Mythic DVD and Steve’s mind control.  Here are the recaps from Soap Central.  I do believe it appears to be February 7, 2007: http://soapcentral.com/days/recaps/2007/070205.php

Oh yes.  When EJ first came to town, he and Kate were basically sex buddies.  They didn’t have much of a relationship outside of the sex.  It makes Kate’s marriage to Stefano that much funnier.  Kate is in a pretty exclusive Salem club of having been with both father and son.  I think the only other character currently in Salem with that dubious distinction is Lexie, having slept with both Abe and Brandon.  A couple of other characters, Nicole and Daniel, decided to skip a generation and went for grandparent/grandchild instead with Victor and Brady and Kate and Chelsea, respectively.

I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that much of what Sheffer did at DAYS was terrible.  He started off well because he was wrapping up the bad stories that Jim Reilly was playing and dragging out — the gloved hand story, the Carrie/Austin/Sami/Lucas disaster that also involved the Lexie/Tek disaster, Patrick supposedly being the father of Hope’s baby.  The episode above was still early in his run, before he came up with his own disastrous storylines, like the awful Touch the Sky Airlines stuff, the stupid Belle/Shawn/Phillip triangle (stupid because Belle couldn’t wait to get divorced from Phillip but once she was, couldn’t stay away from him), the merry-go-round of paternity options for Sami’s twins, the horror that was Willow Stark.  It wasn’t all bad — the writing for couples like Bo and Hope and Sami and Lucas was really enjoyable, the story explaining the origins of the DiMera/Brady feud had its moments, and John’s death should have earned Emmys for Deidre Hall and Martha Madison — and I don’t blame Sheffer for all of it, since I know his hands were tied in terms of writing the stories he wanted to, but I mostly blame him.

So Hogan started and ended pretty strong, with a lot of crap in between, but people were still plenty mad when it was announced after the Writers’ Strike that he was out and Dena Higley was in.

Lesli Kay as Billie would be pretty awesome, though I would also really enjoy having Krista Allen back as Billie.  I do agree, though, the roster is pretty full, and I’m not sure how I’d feel about having Billie back in Salem.  If she were back, the best route for her would be to get her involved in the Jennifer/Jack/Daniel triangle — I’ve always liked Jack and Billie as a pairing, even if not as a romantic pairing, and I’d think Daniel would enjoy hanging out with Billie because she’s (or at least should be) fun.  (It might be an issue that he’s slept with her daughter AND her mother and stole her brother’s wife, though that part’s not bothering Jennifer.)  But if they’re just going to have Billie be the boring, sad sack, desperately slutty character she was last time around, I’d rather they not go there.
