I watched all five emmy reels. Here is my opinion
5:Finola Hughes- Her reel was a huge dissapointment to me. First of all she was lead. I know u could submit up to four scenes but it didnt work here. It felt very choppy. The first scene with her and Paul should have been cut. I liked her scenes with Robin. She was good in the Carlos scene but damn what a complete dissapointment.
4:Kelly Sullivan: She had a good scene with Sharon about confronting her about Sully. It was the shortest reel of the bunch. It was good but not emmy worthy and was kind of one note. She only submitted one episode and i felt i would have liked to have seen more.
3:Stacy Haidux: Stacy played crazy so well. She is nuts in these scenes with Paul. I really liked the range she showed in this reel.
2:Ann Marie Horsford: the dark horse. Her reel knocked me out when confronting her husband about his mistress child. The whole scene was extremely powerful stuff. It had a Viola Davis Fences feel to me. She could win this based on that reel.
1: Kate Mansi: Phenomonal reel. She submitted four episodes and here it all worked and told a story. I forgot how much I missed Mansi as Abby. She went from so many emotions and showed her spiral to going crazy. Mansi had extrodinary depth here.
How would u all rank them?

Sullivan’s reel is only 4 minutes and still most of it felt like filler. The last 30 seconds are good. Why not submit the next episode too? And how could Michelle Stafford not get in over this? This winning would be more of a head scratcher than last year’s best actress winner.
Hughes scenes with Paul are inconsequential, and the Robin scenes are nice but unnecessary. The Sonny/ Carlos scenes feature typically strong work from Hughes. She’d be ranked much higher if she had left off the earlier scenes. But she’s still a talented, respected vet and the only Emmy winner in the group. That plus the last few scenes could be enough to get her a long overdue 2nd win.
Haiduk & Mansi submitted baity reels where both their characters were being committed. They both get to chew the scenery and act with a capital A. Either could win.
My favorite was Horsford. It’s a cliched setup but her work is strong. I like that she didn’t overplay the scenes and her subtlety is highlighted by her onscreen husband’s overacting.
Any of the top 4 winning would be justified. Which means it’s probably going to Sullivan for 4 minutes of nothing!April 13, 2017 at 8:33 am #1202065464
1. Kate Mansi
2. Anna Maria Horsford
3. Stacy Haiduk
4. Finola Hughes
5. Kelly Sullivan
This category is overall much stronger than the younger ones. I could see any of my top 3 taking it and it would be deseveved based on their reels. Kate was my personal favorite, but I could easily make an argument for why Stacy or Anna Maria should win because their reels were incredible also.
Finola had some spectacular moments, but no cohesion to her reel. Hers was the perfect example of how the 4-episode rule can hurt you. She threw together a bunch of scenes to show a range, but there was no connective thread between them, so the transitions felt jarring and took you out of it.
I thought Kelly was quite good, but there was nothing to her reel. I know she had other good moments she could have added, so it just felt light weight compared to the others.April 13, 2017 at 2:36 pm #1202065791
Anna Maria Horsford and Stacy Haiduk were clearly the best here and if one of them doesn’t win it’s Reason #1 that Daytime is on the endangered list. 2 experienced actresses elevating what could be cliched material and leaving a strong impact.
Do not see the big fuss on all about Mansi. Lots of wimpering and unconvincing moments. Doesn’t have the season of the other 2 ladies to pull it off.
Finola Hughes has never done anything for me. She just bores me and her reel was boring. Kelly Sullivan for the 2nd time picks a less than 5 minute reel which is fine but leaves no impact.
Can I remind any potential voters viewing this forum that only 2 black women have won in 44 years at the Daytime Emmys despite having 3 actress categories? From what I am viewing both Horsford and Reign Edwards in Younger were the best in their reels. If both are passed over it will speak very poorly to this community.April 13, 2017 at 5:36 pm #1202065900
Horsford and Haiduk are the best hands down.
Not getting the praise for Mansi’s reel at all, especially when comparing it to Horsford’s and Haiduk’s acting. Sorry.
Sullivan is a good actress and I liked Sage, but this reel doesn’t showcase her best acting. I prefer her to Mansi, even though I ranked her lower.
Hughes is still flipping back and forth between lead and supporting. Eventually, she will get a win with that tactic, even with these useless reels. Would not be surprised if she won, since she managed a lead nomination last year.
I’m rooting for Horsford. Haiduk would not be a bad pick; I really liked her reel.April 13, 2017 at 6:35 pm #1202065920
5. HughesApril 14, 2017 at 11:29 am #1202066553
I was torn between Horsford, Haiduk and Hughes, whose reel played out better to me than the rest of you. When comparing breakdowns, I thought Haiduk was way better than Mansi and, as for Sullivan, she had like 30 seconds of brilliance and have no clue why she didn’t submit an extra episode.
5. MansiApril 14, 2017 at 2:37 pm #1202066702
1. Hosford and Haiduk (I almost hope this is tie because both reels were really great and plus they are truly supporting actresses on the respected shows. Haiduk just channels playing mentality unstable and unreliable well. I want Hosford to get it because her reel was the most powerful and deep, had me in tears).
3. Hughes – Still don’t know how she got threw in supporting when she’s a lead on GH but these scenes were alright for what they were. I thought her reel in Lead last season was by far more impressive).
4. Mansi (I agree with Power. I get Mansi is a fan fav on Days and Days hardly gets the credit from an acting standpoint a lot of times when it comes to the Emmys, but her reel was “meh”. She’ll probably get some votes when Abby burnt Ben up in the bed yet if I had to compare Mansi’s level of crazy to Haiduk’s with Patty – I’m taking Haiduk’s all day long).
5. Sullivan (This reel was too short and I’m still salty this was got a nomination over Elizabeth Hendrickson)April 14, 2017 at 4:02 pm #1202066746
Hughes supporting probably had something to do with the fact that the two longest time lead actresses(even though NLG was supporting a couple times) on her show had to get nominated.April 14, 2017 at 6:26 pm #1202066796
When the story of Ben’s return started on Days, it was an eerie, taut psychological thriller that was enormously entertaining. But when Abigail covered Ben in gasoline, the story took a turn for the grotesque and unfortunately never recovered. Kate Mansi would have done well to submit the scenes leading up to the ones on her reel.
Stacy Haiduk‘s reel was too over-the-top for me. In her defense, Y&R’s recent characterization of Patty was a total bastardization of the original character from the 80s. Haiduk is a good actress, but, for me, this is not Emmy material.
Kelly Sullivan is very good, but her reel is inexplicably brief.
Anna Maria Horsford‘s reel has it all. She turns in a moving, authentic performance, buttressed by co-stars who complement but do not overshadow, and a meaningful, cohesive script.
Although Finola Hughes‘s reel is not cohesive, it showcases her range as well as her ability to transcend the weak writing on GH. She is one of those actresses that just brings it to every scene.
1. Anna Maria Horsford
2. Finola Hughes
3. Kate Mansi
4. Kelly Sullivan
5. Stacy HaidukApril 15, 2017 at 12:12 pm #1202067311
This is a toughie. Anyone from my top 3 could win I’d be satisfied, but my number 4 and 5 pick are great as well tbh imo…
1. Anna Maria Horsford (BB) – I hope she wins, if only just to match Obba Babatunde’s from last year. Regardless of that, she’s wonderful, and I’ve always liked her acting on the show.
2. Kate Mansi (Days)
3. Stacy Haiduk (YR)
4. Finola Hughes (GH)
5. Kelly Sullivan (YR) – You have 4 episodes and 20 minutes. Why are you doing this?
Favorite Reel: Anna Maria Horsford
Who Will Win: Kate Mansi (Days) – I kinda think if Babatunde couldn’t a get nomination, Horsford probably only barely got in. So I’m gonna predict Mansi here. If anything, like most of the wins last year, it’ll be a “goodbye” present.April 17, 2017 at 9:57 am #1202068792
1. Kate Mansi
2. Finola Hughes
3. Anna Maria Horsford
4. Stacy Haiduk
5. Kelly Sullivan
As OLTLFan said, Sullivan’s reel is less than five minutes, and even most of that feels like filler. She’s a great actress who did some great work in 2016, but I can’t believe this reel was nominated. All four of the others are tremendous, and any of them could win. Haiduk does a great job playing Crazy Patty, but the character has been so flattened that crazy has become basically all there is to her, leaving Haiduk with nowhere else to go. Horsford is wonderful in her reel. The performance is grounded and real. I agree that Hughes didn’t really help herself with the disjointed, time-jumpy reel she put together — the date sequence, though funny, was especially unhelpful since she spends the rest of the reel crying about Duke — but she’s really strong and really emotional in the scenes with Robin and with Carlos at the jail. The scene with Sonny and Carlos felt sufficiently redemptive, and it all worked really well. Mansi’s reel isn’t what I would have put together for her, and I think full episode of Abigail seducing Ben along with some stuff later about being committed would have been more effective than the bits of stuff with Ben we got. Still, she was fantastic and played a lot of range and layers within this portrait of a woman who’s been driven out of her mind. It was my clear favorite.April 18, 2017 at 10:37 am #1202069879
This year the two front runners are paying the crazy tax in their
submissions. Don’t give them a straight jacket give them an Emmy.
5.) Sullivan – Can someone please post an Amber Alert because her
Emmy submission went missing or at the very least put it on the
back of a milk carton. What the heck was that all about?
It started out nicely enough like good sex, but before I could
finish she’d put on her clothes & left the room. Literally
you blinked and you missed it. No.
4.) Hughes – One of the best and most understated actresses on
daytime. I can’t call category fraud or not since I no longer
watch soaps, but I can call her to the carpet for her reel
and I don’t mean the Red Carpet. Did someone throw tear gas
on set for all her scenes? We can tell you are one hell of
an actress- stop advertising it w/ the Katherine Kelly Lang
waterworks. Not only is Hughes showing that she can act but
she’s showing she will act for EVERYONE in the scenes w/ her.
Actually the only part of her submission I liked was the first
scene. That was because it’s the only part of her reel that
she doesn’t look like she’s auditioning for a Visine ad.
FiFi you are so much better than that.
3.) Horsford – I for one do not get the mad love for this woman’s
work. The only reason she didn’t land in 5th or 4th spot on
my list is because Sullivan was barely there and Hughes was
too much there. I’ve admired her work for decades, but like
her submission last year, it just didn’t work for me. Last
year’s winner Obba Babatunde blew her off the screen and he
does it again this year. Her submission this year reduces
her to nothing more than a sounding board for his pains.
Horsford always appears to be struggling to remember her
next line and to buy her some time to come up with it she
rallys her fist ala ” I’ll never be hungry again nor let
a damn man do this to me again as God as my witness! ”
For me her work plays to the cheep seats. But I do applaud
her for keeping her eyes dry until the end.
2. ) Haiduk- YASSSSSS! This is how you work a scene. From soup
to nuts she brought her ” A ” game to the table and a
possible Emmy to her mantle.
1.) Mansi – I have to admit I was looking forward to her
submission the most and she did not disappoint. The few
times I’ve peeked at DOOL over the past couple of years
she more than anyone also caught and held my attention.
Watching her go pedal to the medal was worth the wait.Has
the beguiling beauty and charisma of a young Natalie Wood.
Mansi dishes up a bowl of crazy far better than Wood ever
did in Splendor In The Grass or The Cracker Factory. Where
do I start? She made being crazy a gold medal Olympic sport
and absolutely broke my heart in the process. When they
carried her off with her thin grasp on reality I was on the
floor. A modern day Blanche DuBois being carted off to the
nut house. A five handkerchief, Emmy winning performance if
ever I’ve seen one. BRAVO.April 19, 2017 at 2:03 am #1202070558
1. Kate Mansi. She shows immense range and is extraordinary in her reel. It packs an emotional punch that BRP seem to love.
2. Stacey Haiduk. She plays crazy so incredibly well!
3. Finola Hughes. Yes, I agree: a bit disjointed but it hasn’t hurt others who have won Emmys the past few years.
4. Anna Maria Horsford. She submitted her only worthwhile scenes; she is really a guest performer. Excellent, but I would be shocked if she were to win.
5. Kelly Sullivan. Too short of a reel and she had other material she could have utilized for a better reel ): This one disappointed me, so of course the BRP will love it, right? (;
I still think Finola Hughes or Kate Mansi will win this. I am rooting for Mansi.April 22, 2017 at 12:49 am #1202073325
1. Kate Mansi ( Abigail blew me away especially setting Ben on fire omg she played it greatly)
2. Anna Marie Horsford ( she played the hell out these scenes omg she really put Julius in his place)
3. Stacy Haiduk (This was a great reel I loved it but it was Missin something)
4. Kelly Sullivan ( loved it but I wish she had put more tapes with it )
5. Finola Hughes ( this reel did nothing for me for real it was ok but honestly it did nothing for me)
