The interruptions really are the worst, especially when they are for things that are not breaking or urgent and barely noteworthy beyond needing to fill the hours of news programming the networks want to run.
I loved the contrast of Marlena/Adrienne and Hattie/Bonnie in yesterday’s episode. The Hattie/Bonnie scenes were really fun, and the writers did a good job of reminding us of the basics of Bonnie’s backstory — I had completely forgotten that she used to be Maggie and Mickey’s cleaning woman before she put the moves on Mickey when Maggie was on “Gilligan’s Island” (LOL, a better name than Melaswen!), and since Mickey has been dead for a while now, it didn’t occur to me she’d want revenge on Adrienne. The Lisa Rinna bit was funny, too.
My guess on the murderer, based on what was happening before, what’s going on now, and Dario’s impending exit apparently happening sometime this month (i.e., in the next week), is that Dario was the original culprit but Ron decided to use his other crimes to usher him out and instead pin the murder on someone else. Some of the beats that are playing out now, like the fact that Dario did return to the party and hadn’t told anyone or Hope and Rafe arresting him, feel like slight tweaks on what might have been his being uncovered as the killer.
I also really liked the Eric/Jennifer scenes yesterday. I enjoy the two of them as a pair, and really haven’t like Nicole with him since she conspired to keep him from rejoining the priesthood a few years ago. But more than that, it was nice to see the two of them, two characters who have been quite tortured over the last couple of years, having fun and being light for a while. I also just enjoy seeing hot guys eat junk food, so Greg Vaughan chowing down on Horton donuts made me happy.
As for the story with Tripp, I don’t know what they can do to salvage it, but there’s a path I would think they need to follow here, which is that Tripp finds out that Joey actually killed Ava and then admits what he’s been doing to Kayla. I’m not sure where that leaves Tripp, but generally I think there’s plenty they could do with the character that could be good.July 26, 2017 at 6:39 pm #1202166080
EmmyLoser: “My guess on the murderer, based on what was happening before, what’s going on now, and Dario’s impending exit apparently happening sometime this month is that Dario was the original culprit but Ron decided to use his other crimes to usher him out and instead pin the murder on someone else.” But then who could it be? I don’t have any other suspects.
EmmyLoser: “I loved the contrast of Marlena/Adrienne and Hattie/Bonnie in yesterday’s episode.” Yes!
Also, the Gilligan’s Island reference was great. Basically poking fun at the storyline in a benign way.July 27, 2017 at 4:58 am #1202166407
I know it makes no sense but I keep thing Chloe murdered Deimos if Dario isn’t the murderer… my feeling is that it has to be someone who wasn’t drugged. I hope it isn’t Eric.
Deidre and Judi are wonderful together (: Glad they will be working together more.
I found the last two episodes a bit on the dull side but the show is definitely so much better than it was.
I wish they would bring Billy Warlock to the show and get Eve and Jennifer fighting over a man again! (;July 27, 2017 at 1:40 pm #1202166906
It would be great having Billy Warlock back. I just loved Jennifer and Frankie way back when, and probably because of them really never grew to love Jennifer and Jack the way most fans did. Seeing Eve and Jennifer compete over a guy would be fun for sure, but I’d like to see it not necessarily be a love triangle. (This, for me, was part of what kept the dynamics among Kate, Sami, and Nicole so interesting for so long — they were sometimes competing for love interests but often trying to fend someone off a relative like Lucas, Eric or Brandon.)
It was sweet to have the Patch/Kayla anniversary scenes yesterday, though I wonder at this point how many of the people watching the show are big fans of them? I know they’re a classic couple and the old school fandom seems to respond to them, but the only people I know who are huge fans of them and think they should be getting lots of screentime together don’t actually watch the show currently. I’m fine with them, but I think the time is better spent trying to endear a new supercouple to the current and more recently lapsed viewers.
I keep trying to think like an incoming writer in trying to figure out who the murderer will be. I think it’ll turn out to be someone who was at the party and who was drugged. The combination of the person being drugged plus some impending threat from Deimos at the time is enough to morally exonerate whoever the killer might be. If I wanted to wring further drama from the situation, I’d ultimately settle on a tortured hero or heroine who would struggle with the implications of having taken a life, even if justified and not really to blame.
If Sonny found the body, as it appears he did, I’m going to say he didn’t actually commit the murder. Lani and Eli apparently were trapped in a garage, and I think, given recent history, there’s no need to put Hope or Eric through such an ordeal again. Hope and Rafe appear to have been together the whole night. It would be a crappy ending to give Nicole to have her murder Deimos shortly before leaving the show. That would leave Chad, JJ, Abigail, and Gabi, right? So my current guess would be Abigail. If she saw the scuffle Deimos and JJ were having and became involved, she could have eventually killed Deimos to protect JJ and/or herself. Chad, who was chasing Abigail while she was attempting to chase down Deimos, could have seen her do it and wiped the prints off the knife, as well as destroying any other evidence, so keep her in the clear. That’s my current theory, though I could also see all of this (or something similar) playing out before it’s ultimately revealed that someone else who didn’t seem involved at all (like Chloe or Xander) is the true culprit.July 28, 2017 at 9:37 pm #1202168504
that was my guess as well. That Abigail did it and Chad was trying to wipe off her fingerprints. I also hope i am wrong but i have a feeling Chandler Massey’s portrayal of Will could be ghostly visions that Sonny may be having?July 31, 2017 at 7:38 am #1202170488

I would hate Chandler Massey to just be back for visions. I don’t think they’d waste him like that.July 31, 2017 at 8:00 am #1202170513
That would be awful! I’ve gotten the impression that the story surrounding Chandler Massey’s return is what prompts Sami to come back to Salem, and I doubt she’d show up just because Sonny is having ghostly visions of Will. I also doubt Chandler would have been posting about how great his scripts were if he were just a ghost. I know the show also hasn’t been all that forthcoming about how long returning players will be around for the most part, but I have been under the impression that Chandler Massey and Kassie DePaiva will be around long term, whereas Alison Sweeney, Eileen Davidson, and likely Martha Madison and Brandon Beemer will be making more limited runs.July 31, 2017 at 6:24 pm #1202170925
Loved the Deidre Hall scenes with Marlena and Hattie today. Some really funny lines.
Abigail is such the damsel in distress. Now that she has been hit by a car, it’s difficult to imagine that she will be a murderer too!
The Tripp storyline is so bad. Is it me, or is his behavior inconsistent? One minute he seems regretful and the next minute angry again. Now that Kayla has been exonerated, they need to just end Tripp’s quest for vengeance. It’s definitely the worst story on the show.August 1, 2017 at 10:15 am #1202171560
^^^Yes, Tripp’s behavior is really inconsistent. I have a hard time knowing if the inconsistency is written in or is Lucas Adams responding to what the other actors in the scene are doing. Maybe this plays into what becomes of Tripp after this is over, if he possibly has some type of borderline personality disorder. (Although if he does, who would diagnose it? Certainly not Dr. Hattie!) For a while I thought it was that he really felt bad about hurting Kayla because he genuinely liked her, but that the guilt of liking the woman who he thinks killed his mom was fueling his revenge more. Now that Steve seems onto Tripp, I don’t expect this to go on much longer, but the other shoe has to drop and Tripp has to find out Joey is the actual culprit. Basically everyone else Joey’s knows is aware that he did it, so Tripp has to find out sooner or later (preferably the former).
The Marlena/Hattie scenes were great. It was such a classic Marlena move when Hattie started going on about Roman (hilarious in itself — Roman!) and Marlena is like, “Oh yeah, he’s at the Pub, why don’t you go talk to him?” I can’t wait to see Hattie trying to be Marlena in a full-time basis.
Poor Abigail! At least in this case she’s only in trouble because she was saving Chad. I actually see her as playing the hero here to Chad being an unwitting dandy in distress (three minutes of Googling did not yield any consensus on the male equivalent of “damsel in distress”), leading the charge to get that photo deleted and stringing Dario along until it happened, then pushing Chad out of the way of a speeding car. But I guess it’s all subjective. Remember last year when Andre had Rafe tied up in a basement ready to explode, Hope came along and saved him but got injured in the process, and when they eventually were let out by Chad, everyone just thanked Rafe for saving Hope while no one thanked her for saving him or Chad for saving either of them?
I was also thinking it’s unlikely they’ll expose her as the murderer now, but Victor seems to be moving this story into a new phase where he’s going to make someone else look guilty, so they could stall until Abigail is recovered before the murderer is revealed? If not, maybe Gabi is the killer? Most of the same arguments apply — she’d attack Deimos to protect JJ, and Sonny would move the body and Chad would clean the fingerprints to protect her. And Dario could know that either of them is actually the killer but would blame it on Chad anyway.August 3, 2017 at 6:53 am #1202173391
More big casting news: Louise Sorel is returning as Vivian Alamain soon and Emmy winner Tyler Christopher (ex Nikolas, GH) has started taping a mystery role. He is not expected to air until next year.August 3, 2017 at 7:14 am #1202173411
I’m leaning towards Abigail being the killer with Chad wiping her fingerprints off the knife. They wouldn’t make Gabi the killer because she just came back from prison for killing Nick.August 3, 2017 at 9:01 am #1202173495
I’m excited about the recent casting news! Louise Sorel is great, and I generally enjoy Vivian when she’s on, though I have to say I rarely miss the character when she’s gone. I’m very interested to see what they’ve cooked up for Tyler Christopher. DAYS is really not messing around.August 3, 2017 at 6:24 pm #1202174005
Days is on a roll with hot casting news. And the appearances are spread out in such a way as to keep the anticipation high for quite a long time. Of course, we know from experience that the writers will have to deliver. It would be interesting to develop a list of (ultimately) successful/disappointing high-profile casting coups over the last few years. All that aside, I am excited, especially over Tyler Christopher; I am curious as to his role.
Loved when Hattie kept calling Angelique “Ang” and was reprimanded for it.
Djoko, I agree that Gabi cannot be the killer; it would ruin the momentum of her story and it would be too much given her history. EmmyLoser, you make an interesting point about Abigail having more characteristics of a hero than of a damsel. When I referred to her as a damsel, I guess I was thinking more of the incessant distress… and melodrama… rather than a need to be rescued. I love that you looked up the proper terminology for a male in distress; Dandy for the win! In any case, it just seems like too much to make her the murderer on top of everything else.
Joey: “I’m never going to forgive myself for what I did.” And we’re never going to forgive the writers for that dreadful storyline two years ago. We are still living with unfortunate consequences today. Please, let this end. Some stories are best forgotten.
Addendum: After watching Friday’s episode, I am wondering if they are writing out the character of Tripp. In any case, I hate the direction this story has taken.August 8, 2017 at 5:14 pm #1202179217
Well, it looks like the Tripp storyline is over. I did not like the way it played out, but I am glad it’s over.
I love the character of Gabi. Camila Banus is so great! It will be interesting to see where the character goes now that she has broken off with Chad (and it appears to be final this time).
I am really bored with the Nicole/custody of Holly story. I just want it to be over.
I’m not buying that Rafe would go to Mexico to find Dario. Given their relationship, I just don’t see it.
Although the double doppelgänger story is unrealistic — well, beyond unrealistic — it is a guilty pleasure, thanks to the humorous dialogue and the performances of Deidre Hall, Judi Evans, and Morgan Fairchild.
Hattie: “I think I deserve one of those Daytime Emmys for the way I handled John Black.”
Hattie: (moving the unconscious Adrienne) “Got a lot of hairspray, doesn’t she?” LOL.August 8, 2017 at 5:31 pm #1202179258
I think Deidre Hall deserves one of those daytime emmys for her performances as Marlena and Hattie (;
Was that it for the Tripp story?
My worry about Nicole’s story is that she will wind up taking Greg Vaughan’s Eric with her when she leaves Salem ): I would so much rather she take Brady with her if it has to be one of the two of them… they do seem to be dragging the story out interminably though..
Where does Gabi go from here?
Well, they need something to test the Hope/Rafe relationship; perhaps Galen is going on vacation and this is the way to allow that to happen?
I am mostly enjoying Days lately. The dialogue between Sonny and Victor was wonderful and of course any Zander scenes makes me happy (:
