I don’t want Hattie sent to a more secure facility for the simple reason that I want her to pop onto the show regularly to enliven things for us viewers! (: Hooray for Hattie!!!! (:
I love Gabi. I love how she stands up for herself and takes no guff! (:
Another good episode today! (:February 6, 2018 at 8:49 am #1202488538
I’m quite excited to see what revelations happen this week! This is a good slate of exciting stories that were built up in pretty short order.
Hattie is great. I’m also don’t want her in a more secure facility! But she’s pretty resourceful. I wouldn’t be too surprised to see her sneaking out again.February 6, 2018 at 7:26 pm #1202488912
Does anybody else have the feeling that ABIGAIL is Andre’s murderer? I have a strong sense that she will have a split personality…
Where is Adrienne? (and for that matter: Bonnie?)
I wish they would give a strong storyline to Maggie soon.
I am enjoying Paul and Will but I am team Wilson for the long-term..February 7, 2018 at 9:05 am #1202489360
Freeman: “Does anybody else have the feeling that ABIGAIL is Andre’s murderer? I have a strong sense that she will have a split personality…”
I actually had the same exact thought when I watched yesterday’s episode!
As soon as I saw Deidre Hall appear in that over-the-top, old-school funeral garb, I knew something was up. I loved the Hattie/Anna debacle.
But I sense that none of the obvious suspects (Vivian, Hattie, Anna) are going to be guilty and that Gabi is clearly the victim of a set-up.
On another note, I recently was watching an episode of “My Three Sons.” The Douglas family went to Hawaii and Robbie ran into a classmate from high school. I immediately thought she looked familiar, but did not know why. I kept watching, and suddenly it hit me: it was Susan Seaforth Hayes, who was only 23 years old when the episode was filmed in the spring of1967.February 7, 2018 at 1:30 pm #1202489504
Interesting theory about Abigail and the split personality! It makes sense on a few levels, so I could totally see that being the case. Ron’s featured storylines involving multiple personalities on OLTL and GH during his runs on those shows, so why not do it with a show like DAYS that is historically wackier than those? There was also some potential foreshadowing with Gabi asking Abigail if she’d killed Andre, which might have been nothing but then was referenced again yesterday. I also thought Abigail’s choice of nail polish, the really dark color, was interesting. It’s appropriate considering they were just at a funeral, but when they first showed the close-up on her hand, I assume it was one of the less virtuous characters. That could have been another hint. And of course there’s Abigail’s history of mental illness and previous episode where she’s done harmful things and not remembered. This wouldn’t have occurred to be, even though I thought for some time it was basically what had happened with Deimos’s murder. It makes a ton of sense, though. I don’t think Hattie, Anna, Stefan or Viv is the real killer, and I was sure it wasn’t Gabi in the video from the moment they showed us the security tape. The hair looks very much like a wig. (I love that Gabi’s hair is currently curly and voluminous, to play up the contrast.)
I really liked the scenes between Lani and Val yesterday, too. Even though the end result was, I thought, fairly predictable — no amount of begging or pleading could believably make Valerie agree to lie to her own son about his baby given their history — I liked the way both women handled things. I just think back to Carly trying to make Chloe tell Daniel the truth about Parker being Phillip’s son (which was supposed to be true at the time, though it turned out not to be), and they both came out of it looking terrible.
Having spent the last couple of episodes focusing mostly on the murder mystery and the Lani pregnancy secret, I’m super eager to get back to the John poisoning Steve secret and also to really get some movement on the Rafe sleeping with Sami secret, the oldest secret of the bunch!February 9, 2018 at 11:48 am #1202490874
Oh great – now I am going to be worrying all weekend about Will and Paul – and wondering what on earth is going on with John? I am baffled! Today’s episode was SO TENSE!
Sonny was great today too – but don’t give up, Will will eventually get his memory back!February 9, 2018 at 6:39 pm #1202491034
Today’s episode was… wow! No spoilers in case you have not watched, but I cannot wait until Monday!
Regarding Sonny and Will, maybe they will get back together, but Paul and Will definitely have momentum right now.
Lani is a puzzle to me because her every instinct is the opposite of my own. If I were in her position, I would have told JJ the truth immediately. I mean, within minutes after the inception of the misunderstanding, specifically because he is vulnerable and I would not have wanted to create an even bigger problem. But suppose I had not chosen that option. If that were the case, and my hand was forced by Valerie, I would have gone straight to JJ, not Eli. Essentially, Lani has now not only put herself in a bad position by cheating on JJ; she has allowed him to go around town with a dopey grin on his face talking about nothing but the baby. It’s going to be so much worse when he finds out because he’s going to feel deceived and perhaps even used, not to mention embarrassed in front of his friends and family. Lani still does not seem to get this.February 10, 2018 at 3:48 pm #1202491435
Is Monday here yet? LOL! I need to know everything is all right with Will and Paul! (: I need a plausible explanation too!February 12, 2018 at 8:04 am #1202492448
What an ending to Friday’s episode!!!!!
I am assuming Will and Paul will be okay, but I really don’t know what is going on. I like that we got a little more info this week, and it feels like the crap is about to really hit the fan here. (I loved how, on Thursday when Marlena caught them snooping around, Will and Paul said they were going to visit Derek, haha. I wonder if they hang out sometimes.)
Also, some beautiful work from Mary Beth Evans (particularly for me in the scenes where Kayla and Marlena discuss being strong in when they don’t feel like it) and Freddie Smith (particularly in the scenes with Sonny and Arianna) on Friday. I’ve been hard on Sonny, but I just love seeing him in dad mode with Arianna, and he was just so sweet in trying to protect her from the news that Gabi’s been arrested. Good thing Ari’s got three parents, since Gabi’s in jail and Will is maybe shot or something? Honestly, given the rate at which people get kidnapped, killed, brainwashed, incarcerated, etc., no child in Salem should have fewer than three parents.
It was nice, too, to see Justin and Sonny talking about Sonny and Will. The conversation seemed to be foreshadowing the idea that this trauma with John might bring Will’s memory back, but I’m hoping that doesn’t happen. For one, I’d hate for Sami’s well-intentioned but totally reckless and dangerous actions with having Ben strangle Will again to be validated in any way, including by having some other trauma bring back Will’s memory. More, though, I’m really enjoying the development between Will and Paul. I’m also interested to see Sonny develop a little more as a character outside the context of his relationships with Will and Paul. As far as running one of the show’s major companies, Sonny is kind of getting short-changed in terms of actually doing any of that on-screen (compared to, say, Brady, Eve, or anyone who’s been in charge of DiMera over the last couple years). I’d like to see the character feel like a legitimate CEO, instead of just the golden boy who Victor appointed because he’s so much less of a trainwreck than the other option.
I totally agree with you, robbalto, on Lani’s decision-making. I realize that this is a soap and drama is necessary, but it especially seemed like such a mistake not to just tell JJ what happened when he first overheard her discussing the pregnancy. At the point when she got pregnant, the two of them had been broken up for weeks, and she was upset seeing him with Gabi. The idea that she slept with someone else would have been hurtful, sure, but not the catastrophe it is turning into for JJ. What could have initially just been something unfortunate that happened now feels like both a betrayal and a life-altering shock.
Oh, also, I loved the revisiting of the Bella Face of the 90s campaign that Carrie was a part of twentysomething years ago. It seems likely that Claire and Ciara will compete for this and for Tripp’s attention, and I look forward to both. It was kind of funny hearing Claire saying she doesn’t mind if she gets favorable treatment because Victor owns the company, but won’t she be unpleasantly surprised if her aunt Ciara gets a similar level of favoritism.February 12, 2018 at 12:45 pm #1202492636
I felt very gypped by today’s episode ):
So John is out and about with Marlena at the hospital, but it is Will and Paul that I care about – where are they? We get Kate’s horrified expression but at what? it may not be Will and/or Paul for all we know. I felt they made us wait all weekend with an excellent Friday cliffhanger and then failed to deliver on Monday, which is a no no for me.
Otherwise there were some good things, esp. feisty yet scared Gabi. I am more convinced than ever that Abigail murdered Andre. That D.A. woman is beyond scary!
So Stefan has Andre’s cell-phone. I am enjoying Tyler Christopher’s new character.
I re-read Bill and Susan Hayes’ “Like Sands Through The Hourglass” (2005). Shocked to realize that Bill Hayes is 92 years old! (Susan is 74). I love how detailed they get into the behind the scenes history at Days and the part about his first days on Days were magical! It is one of the best books about daytime ever! (:February 13, 2018 at 8:46 am #1202493172
Yeah, yesterday’s episode was kind of frustrating for me as well. I guess the fact that we saw John with Marlena and got the tease with Kate and Lucas chatting outside the crypt for most of the episode were meant to built tension and suspense, but it felt unnecessary to do that for the whole episode while still not showing us anything more about Will and Paul. Are they even in the crypt? Has John moved them somewhere else? Are they in a drawer or something in there? The suspense and tension were already so high after Friday’s episode that trying to build any further feels like a mistake. I like that people are looking for Will, but it’s making me feel like it could be days before we find out what happened. I suppose maybe we’re just supposed to take it that John killed them and then be pleasantly surprised/relieved when it turns out that he hasn’t? (Even though no experienced soap watcher would believe that based on what we got, which was one unconscious body, two gunshots, and no blood???)
Outside of that frustration, I mostly liked the episode.
I was beyond thrilled to see Melinda Trask again! They’d been talking about her a lot lately, but I didn’t expect her to actually be on screen. I loved having her using her intimidation tactics on Justin and poor Gabi. Gabi is great, by the way, and Camila Banus continues to just kill (well, not literally) playing this role.
Stefan having Andre’s phone is no surprise, but it’s a good development. That Stefan hadn’t used the password Phoenix to try to get into the phone before this is a little hard to believe, but okay. I’ve been trying to put together what information we actually know and see what makes sense, but there’s still a lot missing. We do know (with relative certainty) that Stefan and Vivian were in Andre’s office either when or after he was killed. Stefan made sure they wouldn’t be caught on camera there, which implies that he and/or Vivian either did murder him or intended to, probably the latter. Stefan called someone and said, “I have a job for you,” shortly before Andre was murdered, but was this a person who was intended to commit the murder, the person who took down the security system and footage, the person who is impersonating Gabi, or someone else? It is fairly easy to believe that Abigail could be the person on the tape appearing to be Gabi, if the multiple personality theory is correct. I don’t know. I’m eager to find out what’s going on this week!
It was great seeing Kate and Lucas chatting together as well. The two of them fight so often, but it’s nice to see them get along and have that closeness of a single mom who struggled to raise this son and make a name for herself at the same time.
The other scenes that bothered me a little were the Carrie and Hope scenes. I like the way the two of them are pretty awkward in dealing with each other, but it was odd that Hope felt the need to explicitly address Rafe’s history with Sami, and how Carrie might have been bothered by Hope and Rafe’s wedding in light of that history, but not Carrie’s own history with Rafe. I wondered if people even knew that Carrie and Rafe had been involved, as I guess they weren’t really together for that long and never had sex, but still. The show addressed it much more head-on last year when Carrie and Austin came to Prague to deal with Anna, and Rafe talked to both Austin and Carrie about that history. Considering that Hope was stuck in a safe house with Rafe and Carrie, along with Bo, John and Marlena, for weeks hiding from Stefano a few years back, during the time Carrie and Rafe were falling in love, she must be aware. Most of their scenes together to now have implied that things are weird because of that history, right up to Carrie saying she didn’t think she’d be invited to the wedding. It’s just odd to me that they then turned around and talked about Sami’s marriage to Rafe rather than anything to do with Carrie and Rafe’s history, but I guess you have to go with what ups the drama, and of course that’s teasing the idea of Hope finding out about Rafe sleeping with Sami back in November.February 13, 2018 at 2:13 pm #1202493343
Of course I was distracted during John and Billie’s scene ): What were they saying about Will and Paul? What does Billie have to do with it? I have been annoyed that we still haven’t seen Will and Paul!
I was re-reading the 30th anniversary book from 1995 and I could see clearly reading the storylines why Days was never one of my favorites back then – yes, I watched the show, esp. for Sami, but I found Days too action/adventure oriented and preferred the more family oriented east coast soaps. There were so many soaps back then you couldnt’ watch them all but I was surprised by how many of the stories I did remember. I clearly started watching the show in 1981 when Gregg Marx and Philece Sampler were playing David and Renee. Alex Marshall was the villain back then, and Gloria Loring joined in 1982 and was heavily used in stories as Liz Chanlder. I saw that Abigail and Brady were both born in 1992 which would make them in real time only 25! I did get a better sense of who is who parents and children-wise on the show. My most vivid memories were the early Sami stories; I watched specifically for Alison Sweeney’s Sami back then.February 14, 2018 at 9:17 am #1202493781
A person could drive themselves crazy thinking about the real-life ages of the DAYS children of the 90s and how warped they’ve become, not just in terms of some of them aging very quickly, but how weirdly they’ve aged relative to one another! There are Abigail and Brady, Belle, Phillip, Will, eventually EJ, though he certainly had not yet been born when that book came out. Sami had already had Will and committed several felonies by the time EJ was born! I do remember the show just being so wild back then. People were constantly kidnapped and missing, and the rest of the town would be concerned about them but just be going on with their lives with the thought of, “Oh yeah, Stefano has Doc, we’re working on it, we’ll find her eventually.”
Back to the present day, it seems that John called Billie in to help deal with whatever he’s done to Will and Paul. She was almost done doing whatever and cleaning up when Kate came into the mausoleum and eventually found the two bullet casings. (So John did shoot two bullets, for whatever that’s worth.) John kind of hushed Billie before she could say anything more about it, so we still don’t really know anything, but it was implied based on Billie’s facial expressions, her rushing Kate out of there, and I guess situational logic that the boys are hidden somewhere inside the mausoleum. It’s nice having Billie back for a return visit, but I hope she does something better than just being involved in this ISA debacle!
It was nice to see Eli and Rafe getting along and bonding over their indiscretions, lol. I was fairly surprised that Eli told Rafe about Lani, but I figured it was because he also intended to tell Gabi once this whole murder misunderstanding was cleared up. I suppose it was an easy way out for him, as he expected Rafe to tell Gabi or force him to. It was really surprising that Rafe told Eli about sleeping with Sami. The number of people who know about both those things is growing at a rate that can’t make either guy feel comfortable, especially not Rafe. But it’s nice to get a reminder that while lying is a thing that most soap characters do a times, there’s a difference between people like Rafe and Eli, who don’t like to lie and have a hard time keeping these secrets inside, and others like Kate, Vivian, Stefan, and Brady for whom lying comes more naturally and more easily.
The funniest moment of yesterday’s episode was Claire’s over-the-top description of how great Tripp is. I love Tripp (or Trippilicious as I sometimes call him, since his main purpose currently seems to be as a babe for Claire and Ciara to slowly start fighting over), but hearing Claire say how smart, funny, sexy, and unbelievably ripped he is in the same breath that she’s accusing Ciara of having feelings for him just cracked me up. I wonder if anything will have happened between Ciara and Tripp by the time Claire gets back from visiting Theo.February 15, 2018 at 8:34 am #1202494405
The Valentine’s Day stuff was pretty fun in yesterday’s episode. Steve and Kayla were sweet, and it was cute that Hope brought Steve a little box of candy. As much as Steve is often annoying, I do feel so bad for him laid up in the hospital trying to be tough for everyone.
Hope’s and Rafe’s gifts to each other were hilariously bad. While some people I guess might enjoy an insanely long Mexican necklace (did Rafe still think he was with Kate?), I can’t see Hope wearing such a thing, an especially bad idea in a town where the next person waiting to strangle you could be right around the corner. Aiden, or I guess Faux Aiden, would have had a much easier time trying to kill Hope after their wedding if she’d been wearing that. Meanwhile, Hope approved Rafe’s vacation request for their honeymoon and suggested that they go camping. I’d like to think of these things as further proof that Hope and Rafe don’t go together, but I’m starting to worry that they might stay together, or pretty quickly get back together, even after the secret about Rafe and Sami comes out. Neither of them has any other decent potential love interests on canvas. This has been a problem for Hope since Peter Reckell left, which is why they imported Aiden and then just threw her in with Rafe. And I can’t really imagine Rafe getting involved with any of the other women on the show, unless Billie is sticking around for a while?
I also loved the ending with Jennifer, Eric and Dr. Shah. Now that they’re both clean and sober, the main attraction between Jennifer and Eric seems to be that she makes delicious donuts and he loves eating them, haha. Still, I love the two of them together. I’ve been sold ever since Eric snuck into the hospital to get medicine for Hope a year ago and ran into Jennifer, and the heat between them seemed like it might set the nurses station on fire. I also like how now that the police have arrested Gabi for Andre’s murder, Anna seems pretty relaxed, and happy to go back to incompetent meddling.February 16, 2018 at 4:21 am #1202494918
I have been disappointed in the mishandling of last week’s Friday cliffhanger. Unfortunately somebody on a different site put a spoiler in their title of a thread and all I will say about it is I am unhappy with the direction this storyline is heading and am finding it really frustrating and even upsetting ):
I will be surprised if Andre’s murderer isn’t Abigail; we are supposed to find out at the end of today’s episode who the murderer is. Perhaps there will be a surprise but I doubt it. Any other theories?
I find the fact that Bill Hayes is 92 years old and can deliver the way he did in yesterday’s episode amazing! I hope I am that strong when I am 92! Julie and Bill were a whole lot of fun yesterday!
Where is Adrienne? I worried she would get pushed aside by Ron C. ): I hope she gets major story soon and that Bonnie returns eventually too. I do wish she would go back to Lucas though (sigh)
and please, can’t Maggie get a major story this year? Please?
