The biggest problem I am having with this otherwise terrific show right now is the snoozefest that is Claire and Theo ): Maybe Ciara will help with the younger set but it’s a huge question mark since the actress is an unknown…
I have felt for months that Nicole and Eric will wind up leaving the show together. Time will tell… I want Eric to STAY! I adore Greg Vaughan as Eric Brady. I have enjoyed their scenes both on Friday and today.
I too hope Sami is back for more than just the last scene on Friday; I am so looking forward to seeing Ali/Sami back on my t.v. screen!
I need a Chandler Massey fix soon! (;October 10, 2017 at 10:20 am #1202234183
I echo a lot of both your comments.
As much as I have been resisting the idea of Eric and Nicole even getting back together, let alone leaving together, I was really very sold after Friday’s and yesterday’s episodes. The Friday ending was super soapy (Eric looks great rain-soaked, as he does in most circumstances), and then yesterday was like watching an adaptation of an engrossing romance novel. The first love, Eric staying away for so long, Nicole regretting choosing money over love, the years of longing, the forbidden kiss, even the rugged setting. It was pretty perfect, and I loved the deep dive into the history between these two. Sorry, Brady.
I’m really enjoying the slow unraveling of the mystery surrounding Will potentially being alive. It’s intriguing, and I love trying to figure out what the justification will be based on what we’re being told. It’s sad that they’ve now emphasized a couple of times that, yes, Paige and Serena are really dead. It’s unfortunate for Ben, and a shame because I would have enjoyed having both characters back as a possibility. I actually said yesterday that maybe they could bring Melissa Archer back as Serena Mason’s twin sister Venus Mason. Though I guess they’d be better served bringing her back as Sarah Horton, who much of the audience wanted her to be playing in the first place. Paige being alive would also have been a good reason for Eve to be coming back, but I guess they’ve got something else up their sleeves on that one.
Ben still seems somewhat salvageable to me. They are very clearly establishing now a level of mental illness that often keeps him from truly connecting with reality, and there’s a clear history of a traumatic childhood to make him sympathetic enough. If Ben were to get treatment and make a breakthrough, he could be released. How many of the good people of Salem currently are killers? Hope, Gabi, Lucas, Adrienne, Nicole, and probably lots of others if I think about it. I’m glad Hope told Ben (and I don’t know if he’d even been told this before) that Thomas isn’t his son. Clyde just keeps reinforcing his own lie, and poor Ben probably doesn’t know what to believe.
I don’t mind Theo and Claire, but I’m glad they only get a little airtime together. They’re more enjoyable as pieces in other storylines around them than they are as a duo. I do think once Ciara returns, things will get more interesting. The DAYS casting department has been mostly really good, so I’m hopeful the new girl will be good. Though, I guess most of their faltering with casting has been in the under-25 category.
Just a few days until Sami returns! Who do we think is the first person Sami will slap when she gets back into town? Want to place bets?October 10, 2017 at 1:04 pm #1202234253
I really enjoyed today’s show (: esp. the scenes between Lucas and Kate, which made me cry… and I loved Nicole & Eric, Sonny & Paul, Sonny, Chad and Abigail, Brady acting nuts, Chloe wreaking havoc everywhere she goes lately! (without meaning to!), it’s always a pleasure to see Victor too.
I miss Adrienne and am wishing she would be back in time for the Sonny and Will reunion. I enjoy Bonnie and wish there would be a way to keep her on the canvas as well as Adrienne.
Sami on Friday! (: I hope it’s not just in the last scene, but beggars can’t be choosers… I am glad for the two months of my Sami!!!! (:
Days has had an embarrassment of riches as far as guest performers for 2017 goes! Paul Telfer, Robert Scott Wilson, upcoming visits from Eileen Davidson and Alison Sweeney, just to name a few! (: I love it!
I was incredibly bored bored bored by Steve and Kayla yesterday (and pretty much all the time). I don’t have the same warm memories of others of Days in that I did not watch on a daily basis back in the 1980’s (when they were a “supercouple” on the show). I watched, but back then there were all those great (cancelled) east coast soaps: AMC, AW, ATWT, GL, OLTL, RH… we simply couldn’t watch everything and were forced to choose! Perhaps others enjoy this couple more because they have fonder memories of their heyday?
Watching Chandler today I heard myself say out loud (to no one in particular, just the universe!): “I LOVE CHANDLER MASSEY!” (: I am truly in heaven these days when he’s on the show! (:
I so look forward to Days every day these DAYS! (:October 11, 2017 at 10:32 am #1202234904
I have to say, I also don’t really have that warm nostalgic feeling where Kayla and Steve are concerned, and it’s hard to pinpoint why. I was definitely watching the show in the 80s, and I remember loving them back then, especially Kayla, who I think was my favorite character at the time. But over time most of those couples came to feel like relics a little, and by the mid-90s, the only two couples I still thought of as being top tier were Hope and Bo and Marlena and Roman/John. I fondly remembered Steve and Kayla and Shane and Kimberly, but they weren’t people I really felt like should come back to the fore.
This was exacerbated when Steve and Kayla actually did return. Steve was pretty hard to like, as he had amnesia and was dating Billie, which was just awful, and poor Kayla spent what seemed like forever suffering because her true love was alive but didn’t remember their love and wasn’t in love with her. Eventually this was remedied, but then they had Steve and Kayla find and take in Phillip and Mimi’s abandoned baby, Tyler. Phillip had been looking for the child, but the surrogate who carried him had given him up for adoption. I don’t remember how the couple was separated from him and Steve and Kayla came to have him, but the two strong impressions I have from the story were a) that Steve and Kayla were calling him Pocket (“because he’s so small he could fit in your little pocket”), which I found cloyingly irritating, and b) when Phillip finally discovered that the baby was his son and wanted to raise him, Steve and Kayla treated him like he was too terrible to be a parent and convinced him that the baby was better off with the adoptive parents, which seems really spiteful, judgmental and wrong. It took a very long time for me to get past them doing that, and it’s probably why I haven’t really care too much about them being together since. I acknowledge that a lot of the fans love them and want to see them, but I could easily live without them, especially Steve.
In other reactions, I was pretty shocked by Eric and Nicole in yesterday’s episode. I’d seen on the cover of SOD that they were going to “make love,” but then Nicole lied to Brady about not only where she was but needing to be there the whole night. I mean, I’m sure I wouldn’t have wanted to leave either, but I really didn’t expect the shift from Brady to Eric to be so strong and seemingly decisive. I guess we’ll see what happens, but I can’t wait to see what kind of jerky thing Brady does in response!October 11, 2017 at 11:02 am #1202234919
I’m sure Kate is going to tell us: ZANDER is the one who knows that Will is still alive! (:
I loved loved loved today’s episode! Superb! Every performance a gem, terrific writing, such a great ensemble! Yesterday I was thinking how much I was missing Adrienne and voila! She was on today’s show! Kate’s talk with Clyde was superb soap and moved the story along nicely; Brady going to pieces; afterglow for Nicole and Eric; Bonnie blackmailing Victor; Hattie filling Adrienne in on the plot explaining why she is in prison (why oh why doesn’t Adrienne go to the warden and insist on a fingerprints test and/or DNA test?)…
btw, I was really surprised to learn who Sami interacts with first when she returns on Friday, a most unlikely pair… (;
I’ve been really really impressed with Lauren Koslow’s performances the past two days – she has really been hitting it out of the ballpark!
I give today’s episode an A+! (:October 12, 2017 at 5:48 am #1202235473
Kassie DePaiva’s first airdate is scheduled for October 27th (: Welcome back Eve! (: I wish they would bring back Billy Warlock’s Frankie for an exciting triangle between Eve/Frankie/Jennifer! (:October 12, 2017 at 9:02 am #1202235605
I agree, it was a great episode. The show is really rolling now, and the way they’re playing out the mystery of Will being alive is excellent, moving the ball pretty constantly and involving everyone who cared about him in turn.
I guess Brandon returning is just never going to happen (I was briefly hopeful that’s who Tyler Christopher would be playing), but I would have loved to see his side of the phone conversation with Brady, mostly for the “Whu?!?!” reaction he must have had when Brady asked about Nicole.
Lauren Koslow is so impressive. Her acting is always top notch, and she’s really getting a chance to show that this week. DAYS has so many strong contenders for supporting actress Emmys in 2018, and Koslow’s definitely in the conversation. Beyond that, with the focus on Kate so much throughout the episode, I was marveling at how beautiful and youthful Koslow looks, and not even just in the face, but also her hands, her neck, her shape. It’s like she has a fountain of youth somewhere.
I’m also impressed how Judi Evans is so willing to go non-glam and just be really stripped down with Adrienne’s scenes in prison. Between the difference in their appearances and the incredibly strong performances, it sometimes feels like Adrienne and Bonnie are really being played by two different actresses. It’s amazing. Great work all around this episode.October 12, 2017 at 11:09 am #1202235716
I was cracking up laughing so hard at Bonnie’s antics with Victor today! she is truly nuts and it is so much fun!
I was also laughing as the foursome (Roman, Marlena, John and Kate) were going over the long preposterous crimes of Rolfe & Stefano! (one of the reasons I disliked Days for such a long time were all the crazy sci-fi storylines, esp. when James E Reilly was the headwriter). However, the tears Marlena was crying seemed so genuine and Kate’s touching her tear stained face was a really nice touch… calling Sami at the end of the episode, we have one more day to wait for her return (I know how she returns and who her first scenes will be with – I suspect it will be at the end of tomorrow’s episode)… I was hoping it would be Zander because I want more Paul Telfer/Zander scenes, but this makes much more preposterous sense and I have always thought it would somehow be connected to Stefano, it always is on this show!
I wonder what Brady will do next? Will he turn in Nicole? Will Victor turn in Nicole to save his own hide? Will he tell Maggie the truth? The scenes between Nicole and Brady were very well played today.
I have Judi Evans, Lauren Koslow, Suzanne Rogers in my current top ten list of Supporting Actresses for 2017 (with the possibilities of Alison Sweeney, Eileen Davidson and Kassie DePaiva joining them, depending on their work between now and December). I have John Aniston, Bryan Datillo, Christopher Sean, Paul Telfer, Greg Vaughan and Robert Scott Wilson (with the strong possibility of Chandler Massey joining them) in my top ten for Supporting Actors. Camila Banus, Deidre hall and Arianne Zucker for Lead Actress, and Billy Flynn, Eric Martsolf and Freddie Smith for Lead Actor. As of now, subject to change with 2 1/2 months to go! The acting has been superb in 2017!

Arianne Zucker is a gorgeous woman but that haircut is not a good look for her. I’m sure she’s doing great work this week with the Eric/Brady triangle, but I can’t even notice her acting because her hair is so distracting.
Deidre Hall and Lauren Koslow are already giving me all the feels and Massey’s not even officially back yet. They were both wonderful yesterday. (Let’s just pretend Hogestyn and Taylor weren’t there).
Bonnie trying to get Victor to leave Maggie for her is fun as is Chloe and Julie’s bickering over “Doug’s Place”.
The younger set is a problem for me. The actors playing JJ, Eli and Theo are all gorgeous and should be in hot pairings with steamy love scenes every week. Instead, they’re saddled with weak actresses in chemistry-free pairings. Ron needs to fix that STAT.October 13, 2017 at 4:46 pm #1202236647
It was disappointing that the orange thing was on our screens so we missed the first 20 minutes of today’s episode ):
Sami’s return at the end was so short but I expect we will get much more from her next week. (c’mon, Sami, pick up a shovel and pitch in!) (;
Brady was so hideous today; I am wondering if this is the way they worked it out so that Eric would stay on the canvas? I am uncertain, esp. since I read she (Ari/Nicole) will air for at least another month… (I personally love Ari’s haircut)October 16, 2017 at 8:22 am #1202238433
The information regarding Ari Zucker’s exit is very confusing. I’d previously read that she extended her contract so she could stay on the show into December, but according to Soap Opera Digest, her last day is October 20, this Friday. I could believe it, considering what happened last week and Brady blackmailing her to dump Eric and leave town. Boozy Brady is so bad but so entertaining. Great performance from Eric Martsolf Friday. And I agree with you, OLTLfan, Zucker’s haircut is distractingly terrible.
My broadcast of Friday’s episode was interrupted about 10 minutes before the end, so I had to watch the rest online, which was fine. It’s great to have Sami back, and I guess given the final scene, there was actual impact to waiting until the end for her to show up. I feel really bad for Paul right now. He’s been so confident about Will not possibly being alive, because he hasn’t been in Salem long enough to know better, but you can really see how scared he is now that Will might actually be alive, as if all this drama hadn’t been bad enough. Marlena and Kate have both been so moving in the scenes related to Will. I really didn’t expect them to ever bring up Dr. Rolfe again, but I guess if you’re going to bring back a character who was clearly dead, why not use the person who we know has already straight up resurrected someone before?
I’m dying to see what happens with Bonnie, Victor and Maggie. I keep thinking Bonnie has to get caught soon, and it seems like Sheila has basically forced her to overplay her hand with Victor. This is a man who broke his nephew out of prison to pay him to murder his brother. Bonnie is out of her depth here, but you never know how these things will play out.
As for the younger guys, I’m really enjoying Eli and Gabi. They’ve been moving at a reasonably slow pace, but I’d like to see them kick it up a notch or two. JJ and Lani aren’t the most compelling couple out there, but I think JJ is in a good place as a character. I thought the two of them would be broken up by now, especially since back when they were stuck on that island, it seemed pretty clear they didn’t see this relationship as a forever kind of thing, but neither of them seems to have a better option. Theo and Claire never seemed like a couple that should be together. Maybe once Ciara is back in a recast form, that will change? But then the rumor was the Kyler Pettis would be off the show soonish anyway, so who knows.
Hope is looking good for having not gone home, slept or changed clothes since the wedding!October 16, 2017 at 9:03 am #1202238447
I am hoping that Ari’s leaving on Friday means she won’t be taking Eric with her. There will be drama between the two brothers for certain – a real rift that will give them terrific material to play and of course new options with other female characters (unless either one of them picks up the pieces with Paul!) (;
“he hasn’t been in town long enough to know better!” (; Great line, EmmyLoser!
So looking forward to today’s episode! please: no “breaking news” today, o.k.?October 17, 2017 at 8:17 am #1202239740
Yes, it seems like Brady, in his boozy villainy, has probably saved us from losing Eric by forcing Nicole to dump him and leave town alone. I do love a good sibling rivalry, and it’ll be fun watching this play out between the two of them. I really enjoyed the contrast in yesterday’s episode between Lucas and Brady. Both are off the wagon, but their methods of being out of control are so different. Brady seems to be really going too far in terms of how nasty he’s being to Nicole, but this actually reminded me of his Emmy-winning performance when Nicole, Eric and Daniel had a little intervention for him when he went back on drugs after everything with Kristen, and he just lit into all of them.
Sami wasted no time getting back to being the Sami we know and love. The exchange with John and Paul was classic. The way she spat the words “you and your son” at John were perfection. Her calling Rafe to arrest them was also great. Welcome back, Samantha!
At this point, I can’t imagine this isn’t intentional, but Rafe really is coming off like an asshole. His reaction to Hope reinstating JJ was way inappropriate, more for the tone than the sentiment. He is also being so, so pigheaded about Eli. It’s amazing that a man who has been kicked out of both the FBI and the Salem PD for not following the rules can take such issue with JJ’s and Eli’s actions. I hope this leads to problems for Hope and Rafe as a couple, because I am liking them together less and less. On the other hand, it was nice seeing how nurturing and protective Rafe was with Sami. I’m looking forward to her scenes with Lucas.October 17, 2017 at 1:01 pm #1202240724
Really disappointed by the interruption causing the loss of the last quarter of today’s show ): I was particularly enjoying Bonnie and Victor and Maggie and Justin! I am so surprised that Victor is doing this – he would plot to get rid of Bonnie and be much more protective of Maggie but with that said it is fun to watch! (:
I think Nicole should tell Eric the whole truth and come up with a plot to outwit Brady – she would go away and after a suitable amount of time Eric would follow. The only reason I am glad this isn’t the plot is because I don’t want to lose Eric/Greg from the show.
So we have finally started the old scenes with Chandler Massey instead of Guy Wilson we have been promised – is it just me or is the intensity level of today’s scene less than it was a few years ago? Also: did I detect breathing/movement from Will when he was supposed to be dead? Still, I enjoyed Sami & Lucas today. I am hoping Sami will realize that it is wise to exhume Will’s body and get clearer answers!
I was enjoying every scene today as they were all characters I like and care about. There is always one episode per week where they have too many of the characters I don’t like but so far that hasn’t happened this week.
1-2 p.m. weekdays is a time to look forward to these Days! (:
