Whenever I catch OLTL live, I catch the last 5-10 minutes of The Chew. The hosts are appealing and giving it their all which makes it slightly more entertaining than The Talk but that’s not saying much. I wasn’t a big fan of GL, ATWT or AMC so I wasn’t exactly crushed that the shows were being replaced. I just wish the replacements weren’t such duds.
I’ve checked out Anderson Cooper’s talk show a couple of times. He’s a good host but I haven’t been a big fan of most of his show topics. The hour devoted to picky eaters was pretty boring. And he’s had on a few famous friends I never would have guessed he’d be friends with that had nothing to promote. They still haven’t found the right tone for the show. Most episodes are just plain awkward.
The Rosie Show (first-run episodes premiere at 7p.m. which I think makes it eligible for the Daytime Emmys) premiered a couple days ago. I was a big fan of her show in the 90’s. This one’s not as fun but not bad.October 12, 2011 at 9:07 pm #419861
Saw The Chew last Friday at the tail end, and it was gross. What was that nonsense w/that “my favorite movie” segment? I can’t. It seems like the future of ABCD will be cheap awful talk shows and “White Oprah”.
Sad. Prospect Park HAD better do these soaps right.October 13, 2011 at 6:00 am #419862
Show all Official talk of all threads in Daytime Emmys,I was finding that from last month but i didnt get any good report on that. Can anyone give meinformation on this.October 24, 2011 at 4:47 pm #419864
So now it’s pretty much The View on that show.
Two black comediennes, a poor man Babs Walters/Mrs. CBS, a lesbian (opposite of Lis), and a loud-mouth Brit (loud-mouth Italian).October 24, 2011 at 7:30 pm #419865
I completely agree. When The Talk premiered, it sucked because most of the people on it were boring. I think they tried to copy The View, but have EVERYTHING represented on it:
When they finally figured out that the show sucked and the hosts didn’t work, they fired 2 of the 3 best people on the show. Instead of getting rid of the BORING Julie Chen and the un-funny Sara Gilbert, they got rid of the 2 of the 3 hosts that actually made the show watchable.
Sheryl Underwood I will admit is funny, but she and Sharon Osbourne (who seems to never be on anymore) is not enough to keep this show going for me.
Its too bad that it will never be canceled because Chen is married to the president of CBS !October 25, 2011 at 6:47 am #419866
I’m still never going to watch this show, but Aisha Tyler seems like a good score for them.November 3, 2011 at 11:24 am #419867
The Chew doesn’t chew..it sucks. It’s awful. I don’t know what it is…maybe its the flow of the show. Funny, because individually I like (most of the hosts). Daphne adds nothing to the show and she would not be there if it weren’t for her father…Mario is not acting like Mario…he is cooking for amateurs and not the master chef that he is. The only one that shines is Simon (?)…the Iron Chef guy who could probably carry the whole show on his own. Big disappointment. Wont be watching anymore.May 21, 2012 at 11:28 pm #419868
GAA kicks off its trial run on 7/9. To be honest, I see this as a genius companion piece w/the lineup that ABC wants. It shows that Vicki Drummer knows what she’s doing w/programing. I am so detached w/that show calling itself GH and while I’ll feel for the cast and crew when the get the time of death, I can’t be too upset b/c the show is unrecognizable to me at this point.September 10, 2012 at 9:51 pm #419869

Watching talk shows isn’t really in my schedule, but I’m certainly curious about the Jeff Probst show. I love him hosting Survivor, and he seems to be great at talking to people and drawing them out. But then this is the guy who was trying to make way for his show by declaring the death of soaps a couple of years ago. I didn’t appreciate that.September 11, 2012 at 7:19 am #419871
I caught the opening of “Katie” yesterday and promptly turned it off. I was like really!? That “Newhart” bit with Matt Lauer was so corny and I suddenly had a flash of anger. They spent all of that $$$ for something that looks like a basic talker. Oh well. I hope the networks still see value in their soaps, b/c good gawd this eliminate scripted drama for cheaper program wasn’t thought through at all.September 11, 2012 at 8:15 am #419872
ABC has a hot one -_-
‘Katie’ Leads Talk Show Newcomers, Ties Top Rated Daytime Talker Debut In 10 Years
By NELLIE ANDREEVA | Tuesday September 11, 2012 @ 8:05am PDT
Katie Couric’s new syndicated talk showKatie got off to a strong start yesterday with a 2.8 Household rating/8 share in the 56 U.S. Metered Markets to lead the pack of new daytime talk shows by a large margin. It equaled the highest daytime talk show opener in the last decade, Dr. Phil in September 2002. Katie, which featured guest Jessica Simpson, built on its lead-in by 12% and improved its time period year-to-year by 22%. (The show replaced soapGeneral Hospital in about half of the country, with the soap now serving as its lead-in.)
Of the other talk show newcomers, Steve Harvey, which debuted last Tuesday, is No.2 with a 1.5/4. Jeff Probst‘s premiere yesterday was on the low side (1.0/3), while Ricki Lake (0.8/2) trailed the pack. Lake’s show was affected by the retrans spat between Tribune and Cablevision, which impacts 40% of the nation’s top market, New York. In its sophomore season debut on a new set, Anderson drew a 1.3 household rating, up slightly from the lackluster 1.1 rating for its series premiere last fall.September 11, 2012 at 6:47 pm #419873
I hope Ricki Lake can rebound. I LOVE her.September 14, 2012 at 10:06 am #419874
I thought Katie was real bland. Too much beige and the guests have been fairly boring. Plus she is too damn perky! It all seems so fake and contrived. She needs to find a balance between news stories and the celebrity stuff, but it seems they’re going to lean heavily on celebrity interviews and Ellen already has that angle completely covered.
I miss the old Ricki Lake. This new version is boring, too controlled. I miss the old Ricki who’d patrol the audience, firing back questions at all her crazy guests and for having episodes like “teen girls who think they’re all that! ARE THEY?” I miss that Ricki. But I much prefer the trash tv/tabloid talk of the mid-90s, with Jenny Jones, Sally, and Ricki over the boring feel good, nice talk shows we now have.September 14, 2012 at 2:09 pm #419875
Ricki’s titles were the best. So specific. “My mom likes to hit on my friends, AND wear my clothes!” “These players say they’re just being real, but are they really just living a dangerous lifestyle?”
