Going through various website boards, there were a good number of commentors suggesting that Anthony Geary taking himself out of contention this year around as a courtesy and respect gesture for the nominees in his category. Darnell Williams would have won this category, for sure. As a farewell to AMC and his role as Jesse Hubbard would have been a perfect send off to his character.

Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres have taken themselves out of contention in respect and humane gesture for others to be able to be recognized. Anthony Geary would break the record when General Hospital ends its run as a wonderful way to send Luke Spencer into the annals of daytime history.

Anthony Geary acceptance speech was full of lies. Talking about the other nominees in his category and having this so-called relationship with all of them was very much laughable and totally a lie. He is not guilty at all since he chose to submit himself this year around. His arrogance, conceit, selfish motives and actions prove that he has no humanity in himself and recognizes nobody except himself. He was not humane in his speech at all. His opening joke did not go over well with the audience. Applause was very weak at best. He displayed no amount of dignity at all.

He proved that he has absolutely no heart and no conscience at all. He would be better respected by many if he had taken himself out of the running this year around. Some say he won because of being Anthony Geary and NOT because he can act or has talent. It is felt that he is a one dimension character/actor and has nothing left in him to expand upon.

Yes, standing there in front of the other nominees was very insulting to them and reprehensible and disgraceful. The way he recognized them was nothing true in any words he spoke.

Having Darnell Williams and Debbi Morgan up on stage recieving their Emmy would have been a far more powerful and positive statement to the entire Emmy world in finally getting closer to the Oscars in equality and voting based on performance and not political favortism and/or just name recognition. Oscar is getting it right and taking risks and seem to be more intelligent and serious minded thinkers in their voting processes.

and viewers would perk up and take notice in a more positive way with a Darnell and Debbi win, popping the corks and breaking out the champagne to toast Daytime Emmy finally getting it right. Sadly the abject failure in yesterday’s show proved that Daytime drama’s are still stuck in their negative ruts and are not ready for Primetime at all.

Anthony Geary did not make headline breaking news because it was all fixed and expected but Darnell and Debbi would have made the greatest and most wonderful headline breaking news and the best thing that could have happened to the show failed to succeed, as was the end results of a show without just cause and merit.

To say that Anthony Geary should take himself out of the running is one thing. To say he has no humanity simply because he chooses to compete is overwrought.

I would say that Geary is probably over-rewarded given the actors who often sit by the sidelines, but he has lost just as many nominations as he’s won, so it’s not like voters are always checking off his name by rote. And he’s certainly not alone. Erika Slezak and Justin Deas have won six times. Jonathan Jackson and David Canary won 5. Kim Zimmer, Susan Flannery, and now Heather Tom have won 4. Do they lack humanity for still throwing their hat in the ring?

Except for extraordinary situations — I think Oprah won something like ten Emmys before finally deciding to bow out — I don’t think actors should necessarily remove themselves from contention because they’ve won too much. In a sense, there’s an arrogance to it, as if to say, “None of you can win unless I recuse myself.” It’s certainly resonable to bow out if you don’t feel you have the material to justify an award. And sometimes it’s nice to say “Thanks but no thanks” if you’ve been duly rewarded, but if you did great work, and voters agree you did great work, there’s nothing wrong with being awarded for great work. I didn’t watch the reels in that category, but everyone who did thought Geary had the best one. He won fair and square.

The only thing that disappoints me about his win is that he beat Erika Slezak’s record. This year, OLTL was cancelled, got skunked at the telecast (it and AMC won bupkus except for Creative Arts), got a shoddy tribute segment, and on top of that the great Erika Slezak lost her record for most lead acting wins (and most wins in general). Talk about kicking a show while it’s down.

I was more sorry Jerry ver Dorn wasn’t nominated for lead actor as Clint Buchanan on ABC’s One Life to Live. He received seven nominations and won two consecutive Emmys, in 1995 and 1996, for playing Ross Marler on CBS’ Guiding Light. A first-rate actor, ver Dorn’s trophies came in the supporting-actor category. And after Bob Woods [Bo] won best actor on his first try, dating back to 1983, no one else ever repped OLTL in lead actor at the Daytime Emmys. So, I had more a reaction to Mr. ver Dorn not getting much-deserved recogntion for OLTL than I did for the actual outcome of the race that was made offical on Saturday, June 23.

Actors should not be chastised for winning awards so many times and not pulling out of their respective categories

Good grief.  This thread is just insanity. Geary won because he had the best reel.  Period.  All of the experts agree with that.  And Heather Tom won because more people liked her reel as well.

Are we really at the point where we are trying to cast aspersions on Geary’s state of mind when he won?  That is not only arrogant, but completely uncalled for.  I have no reason to suspect that Geary wasn’t completely sincere in what he said.

Quite frankly, it seems to me that Linda wants Morgan and Williams to win for political or social reasons.  There seems to be another issue going on in her mind.  I’m not sure what it is.

We went through this a few years ago at the other board with Ellen DeGeneres and this same poster around the time she stopped winning year after year. The original poster had NO problem with Ellen winning every year (and I like Ellen and had no problem with her winning because she produces a good show).  I don’t think we would be having this same converstation if the OP’s favorites were winning all the time.

This is silly. Sure Geary has become unpopular with alot of fans due to his vacations to Amesterdam or whever he goes. His seemingly rote acting has made matters worse and the belief that many people have that he is still one of the few actors left in Daytime who still can reject stories proposed for him makes him a target on message boards. I get sick of his shtick too.

I’m not a big fan, but if he wants to keep submitting his name he has every right to. Plus, I think almost everyone who actually watched the tapes agreed he had the best tape. Normally he always does.

REgardless of anyone’s personal feelings about Geary as an Actor, and I certainly feel like he can occasionally be lazy with occasional single episodes of brilliance.

But Geary’s performance in this episode, and even the entire storyline, were just superb.  I mean great acting is great acting.  Geary has won seven times, and this reel ranks among his best work.

And lest we feel too sorry for Darnell, let’s remember that he already has two emmys, so it’s not as if he has been criminally ignored.

Ugh, Linda needs to get off this kick she’s on, like for real. Geary won fair and square. He had a great episode submission. There was no conspiracy out to get Darnell Williams. I respect people pulling for their faves, but when they come on this board and start creating non-stop threads denouncing a competitor over and over again, then the poster has really gone too far. GET OVER YOURSELF LINDA, DARNELL AND DEBBIE LOST, NOW MOVE ON, geesh.

I was pulling for Morgan this year, but I was realistic and figured that Heather Tom would win and I am okay with that. I do not think there is a conspiracy going around, nor am I going to bash Tom and create a million threads on this board raving like a lunatic because someone I wanted to win an award didn’t.

Sorry y’all, I just can’t take crazy people that well lmao.

I do have another way of looking at this. After returning in 2008 to All My Children, with screen partner Darnell Williams, Debbi Morgan did get lead-actress nominations with all three of her submitted seasons: 2008-09; 2010-11; 2011-12.

I think not winning best actress, during this perod, had more to do with respective competition. While my vote for Morgan was in 2009 and 2012, and that my 2011 selection was As the World Turns‘ Colleen Zenk (also for her series’ final season), I don’t feel I have anything credible to say that can discredit those who actually won.

I don’t begrudge Linda her passionate stance. I used to have strong reactions to the Daytime Emmys. What diffused it was taking into account there having been numerous throughout many years who were either disregarded or duped. And no one can go back in time to change any of that.

She had the sad fate of competing against the strongest of competition in her three years back at AMC.   Frankly, there was nobody but Susan Haskell that was going to win in 2009.   Just nobody else; she had the perfect tape.    Frankly, Morgan has not always submitted her best work either.
