Voting begins for this year’s Goldies, where we choose the best in daytime for 2017. Voting will commence on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at 7 p.m. EST and ends on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at 7 p.m. EST. The nominations will be announced on Sunday, January 28, 2018 and we will have another 3 week final voting round in all categories. (Series, Ensemble Cast, Casting, Directing and Writing have 4 automatic nominees, so we will not be voting in that category until the 2nd final round)

    – in each category, select your top FOUR candidates, ranked from 1st to 4th. Your top choice will receive 5 points, your next choice will receive 3 points, your next choice will receive 2 points, and your last choice will receive 1 point.

    – you may vote in as many categories as you like. If you vote in a category you MUST vote for 4 candidates or that category will not be counted.

    – your ballot will be considered if it includes at least TWO soaps on it. This is to discourage voters from stacking the deck in favor of one particular soap. If you believe, for instance, that Days had the 4 best lead actresses, that’s fine, but don’t submit a ballot with 28 Days actors on it.

    – Drama Series, Writing, Directing, Casting and Ensemble are NOT included among the categories for voting in the first phase of voting – this is the nominating phase – they are default nominees for the final round of voting – that round will last 3 weeks immediately after this phase.

    – Send your ballot to me (FreemanGriffin) via private message.

    – FYC’s are o.k. but DO NOT post your entire ballot in the thread.

    – You will receive a private message acknowledging receipt of your ballot ASAP.

    FYC for Outstanding Lead Actress:
Deidre Hall, Days of our Lives

Despite her many years on daytime, Deidre Hall is rarely recognized with award nominations. The time has come for that to change. In 2017, she turned in truly exceptional work. Her turn as Hattie gave her a chance to do some very memorable comedic acting; however, the character was not without her serious scenes. In fact, Hall did a great job balancing humor and drama for both her characters, Hattie and Marlena, together and apart. She also had to play Hattie not just as Hattie but Hattie imitating Marlena. And furthermore, she did a great job differentiating her scenes with Judi Evans, given the various combinations of characters: Hattie/Bonnie, Hattie/Adrienne, Marlena/Bonnie, etc. I don’t know how, but Hall somehow managed to differentiate appropriately among all these scenarios and characters. As if that were not enough, Hall gave many very moving and heartfelt performances when Marlena was reunited with Will in November. Hall most certainly deserves recognition for her unique contribution to daytime in 2017.

I’m excited for the Goldies. Thanks for getting this going, Freeman!

    Awesome!

One note: I think Kyler Pettis should also be on the eligible list of younger actors.

    FYC:
Eileen Davidson (Susan Banks, with a brief side of Kristen and Mary Moira)
    Outstanding Guest Limited Actress

Queen Eileen kept batty Susan fun but reasonably grounded throughout her arc, and then turned in a truly BRILLIANT performance as Susan came to terms with what she’d done. Stunning work.

^Hi, you were supposed to send me a private e-mail. I have counted your votes but to other voters please send me a PRIVATE e-mail with your nominees on it!

Also: your last category is actually for Lifetime Achievement and not for Legacy. Erika Slezak and Susan Lucci have already won and are ineligible.

I would actually appreciate it if you would take your ballot down from here; I have recorded your votes already.
