Haven’t seen anyone else with a thread posted on this, so I’ll start. I watched these episodes today, and the young ladies outclassed the young men. Four of these episodes would be worthy winners, and I can even make a case for the fifth.

I’m leaning towards Hunter King for the win. Kristen Alderson and Kim Matula are both plausible spoilers. Kelley Missal has an outside chance and a lot of good range. Linsey Godfrey’s scenes kind of annoyed me, and I don’t think she’ll win, but she could upset if voters are eager enough to vote for the apple in the bag of oranges (she submitted a comic episode, and is the only one who isn’t crying through her reel).

Jacqueline MacInnes Wood has gotten a lot more fanfare, but whenever I’ve seen both actors’ work, I have always prefered Kim Matula. I think she’s better here than Wood was in her episode last year.

    1. Hunter King
    2. Kristen Alderson
    3. Kim Matula
    4. Kelley Missal
    5. Linsey Godfrey

I really didn’t care for this category. It’s like the only note that can ever be hit here is tears. I blame that more on the current climate of stories for the ingenues and most having limited range. Linsey Godfrey is a riot as Caroline, but I agree that her reel is more annoying than fun. Kelley Missal is finally recognized for her work. She’s a natural in her scenes and has great range with going from hysterical to angry. Kim Matula is another one who has finally been recognized. She’s the best actress in the group, but her reel needed one more standout scene to really make her a player here. Kristen Alderson made a wise choice in submitting a reel as Starr instead of Kiki. Forgot about those scenes and they are better than the one she won with last year. But a road to a repeat will be difficult with Hunter King having the strongest reel. Aided by soapy material, tears, strong screen partners in Josh Morrow (the best acting he has done since Cassie’s death) and Michelle Stafford, and the unfortunate behind the scenes drama, she’s ahead of the field.

    RANKINGS
    1. Hunter King (Summer, Y&R)
    2. Kristen Alderson (ex-Starr, GH)
    3. Kim Matula (Hope, B&B)
    4. Kelley Missal (ex-Dani, iOLTL)
    5. Linsey Godfrey (Caroline, B&B)

Watching these reels really made me miss Heather Tom, Sarah Brown, Sarah
Michelle Gellar and Kimberly McCullough. What happened to the days when
the younger actresses were just as talented as lead and supporting
    ones?

There’s no standout reel here and I genuinely believe any
of these 5 ladies could take it. I keep going back and forth on
Godfrey’s reel. Rena Sofer and LeAnn Hunley have won with comedic
characters before (both in supporting). And the reel really is a great
showcase for her. I can’t decide if voters will see her reel as a breath
of fresh air or cute, but lightweight. For now, I’m leaning towards
cute and lightweight. Missal’s scenes with Howarth were strong and could
make her a contender. Kim Matula impressed with me with a strong,
    confident performance. The
material wasn’t as baity as Alderson’s or King’s, but her performance
was good. Alderson picked a solid, dramatic reel and gives a strong
performance. I could see her repeating with this. King had the best
material and did a solid job.

    1. Hunter King
    2. Kristen Alderson
    3. Kim Matula
    4. Kelley Missal
    5. Linsey Godfrey

I’m really not too enthusiastic about any of these reels. I wouldn’t be shocked to see any of these 5 win.

This is the category that I cared least about but after watching all the reels I’d say I could see the winner being between 3 girls. Those 3 are Kim Matula, Kristen Alderson, and Hunter King. Kelley Missal is good too. Linsey Godfrey didn’t do much for me especially compared to the other girls. I will say very smart of Kristen Alderson submitting as Starr. I first was puzzled her being nominated with anything as Kiki but now it makes sense. The only downside to her reel was there was a lot of other stuff going on besides Starr although she has good moments. Hunter King had the strongest material but in my opinion isnt the strongest actress. I thought Scott Clifton was great in Kim Matula’s reel and I actually thought she was great, too. So here is my order:

    1. Kim Matula
    2. Kristen Alderson
    3. Hunter King
    4. Kelley Missal
    5. Linsey Godfrey

    1. Kelley Missal, OLTL – she gets to interact with both of her “fathers”, has had a drug overdose, and is quite moving. While I liked several of the other pre-nominees better than any of these five, Kelley Missal rated highest for me of these five.

    2. Kristin Alderson, GH – smart move, submitting her likable Starr instead of her less likable Kiki. She also chose a scene that was related to her winning reel from last year, where she learns the identity of Cole and Hope’s killer. She’s quite moving in her reel.

    3. Kim Matula, B&B – this reel was o.k., not great, but I have come around to liking her now, but that’s more because she has been paired with Darin Brooks’ Wyatt – can’t stand her with Liam, she’s become the female version of Liam “the waffler”. Her acitn grange is only so-so.

    4. Linsey Godfrey, B&B – I didn’t like these scenes when I first saw them, but watching them again it’s nice to see a comedy reel I suppose… She doesn’t have much range.

    5. Hunter King, Y&R – I just don’t get the support for this actress. I find her acting drippy and annoying. She’s boring! I wasn’t moved, interested, nor did I care about her character (perhaps it’s my dislike of the writing? But I also would like to see this role recasted with a better actress). Now, with that said, any of these five actresses could win. I don’t have strong feelings about this category.

God i thought Godfrey was bad but if its supposed to be comedic maybe she will stand out and win. I thought Missal was strong and the drug overdose story was good material to work with. Are people going to understand her interacting with two fathers though? Will there be a bias against an online show that was cancelled. I don’t think most voters will care where the show aired but you never know. I think either Missal or Alderson will win because they had the best material to work with.

    ^^ Agreed.

I’d be happy with any of these girls winning, except Alderson.  It’s bad enough that she has one Emmy for her laughable work as Starr on GH, but two would be a joke.  Plus there is enough competition this year that I find it hard to say she deserves it anyway.  My favourite was Godfrey.  I remember loving those scenes seeing them live, and I thought it was a ballsy move to submit them for Emmy consideration.  And I feel like the Younger categories are a good place to honour the unique.

I think it’s between the B&B girls with Hunter King as the spoiler. For me, I’m leaning towards Godfrey just because all the other reels are just typical crying and drama, whereas her reel stands out as comic relief. Missal is lucky enough to be nominated and it was an achievement considering it’s for an online version of a now-defunct show. Alderson won last year but I don’t feel that she will be too lucky this year. Her role as Starr on GH has run its course. Matula has been dominating B&B like a lead actress, so she is either my #1 or #2 prediction. Hunter has the best reel, but I still feel that she won’t have any lucky here this year. Just something is telling me that Godfrey will surprise and snag the trophy.

    Best Younger Actress

    1. Kristen Alderson (Starr Manning, GENERAL HOSPITAL)
    2. Hunter King (Summer Newman, YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS)
    3. Kim Matula (Hope Logan, BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL)
    4. Kelly Missal (Danielle Manning, ONE LIFE TO LIVE)
    5. Linsey Godfrey (Caroline Spencer, BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL)

I think that this race really could go several ways. There isn’t just a clear standout the way it is in some years. The reason I give the edge to Alderson is because to me, she had the most impact in the scenes that she was given. Hunter King benefited from having a lot of screentime and sharing scenes with Joshua Morrow and Michelle Stafford. I really liked her reel. The only thing that made it not seem like a clear winner to me was that it came off very whiny at times and with it being a long reel, we got to see a lot of it. This was why I give the edge to Alderson for the win. Matula was good. I actually kept thinking in my head through the first couple scenes if Scott Clifton could benefit from this reel. I am not sure how the judging works for the Emmys? Could this happen? I have followed the Oscars a lot over the years but I do not fully understand the way the judging works for the Daytime Emmys. As far as Kelly Missal, I felt she was fine. I wanted to see more to fully understand the story.  It just did not have the impact on me I expected. When I watched Linsey Godfrey’s reel, I thought it was a breath of fresh air and I did enjoy it. I just have a hard time believing the Emmys will reward her for it.

I’m loving all the variety of the perspectives here.  I hope I get a chance to watch these soon.

But to answer your question about voting, jtgarm, Scott Clifton wouldn’t be able to benefit from Matula submission.  Each of the acting categories is voted on by a select panel, and the panel for each category is different.  The people judging supporting actor wouldn’t see the younger actress submissions.  But the judges would have watched the reels of these nominees as well as the prenominees at the same time.  There was only one round of voting, so a judge would watch all the prenominees’ reels, and the top five vote-getters become the nominees and the person who scored highest is the winner, i.e., the winner was already determined before we even knew who the nominees were.

That was a chore to get through.

What a weak category, arguably one of the worst years for this category in a long time.

Some truly one-note actresses are nominated here.

I would give KM from OLTL the #1 spot…she is just ok…the rest are terrible.

How in the hell did Lindsey Godfrey get nominated?  Her reel is a joke.

Wow, I’m surprised you disliked the nominees so much, Scoopster. I can understand tiring of the constant tears, but I thought these were all strong performances (Godfrey’s episode wasn’t my cup of tea, but even still she didn’t strike me as a bad actress). I actually liked these reels better than the Younger Actor reels overall.

Comparing the two Younger Acting categories, the gents were
superior to the ladies. Of the 5 nominees in this category, King, Alderson and
Matula stand a shot at winning. Missal and Godfrey, I’m afraid, eliminated themselves
    with bad reels.

Hunter King – A couple of times during the reel I needed to
pause to remind myself to focus on acting and not the editing, which was bad,
and the writing, which at some points included really stupid lines, e.g. “I’ve
been living someone else’s life“ (no, you haven’t, cause you weren’t switched
at birth) and “I don’t have a family“ (actually, you have a mom and a dad and
several half-brothers, but OK). The acting itself was great. It started out
with some OTT yelling, but soon Hunter composed herself. The rest of the reel,
she delivered realistic anger, sadness and heartbreak. I especially liked how
she choked up a couple of times; you don’t see that a lot in either primetime
    or daytime. It was realistic.

Kristen Alderson – First the more trivial things: Kristen
looks totally different as Starr and as Kiki. I can’t believe I haven’t noticed
that before. Also, some scenes needed to be edited out of this reel. Lindsey
Morgan’s scenes in particular. What were they doing there? Now the substantial
stuff: Kristen was good. I didn’t quite buy her parental feelings as I did with
Chandler Massey, but Starr’s anger was evident. There were some small moments
in which her line delivery sounded slightly like recitation, but that didn’t
affect the overall impression too much.

Linsey Godrey – What did I just watch? No, really, what did
I just watch? I’m trying to find something positive because I don’t want to
write anything negative, but the best that I can come up with is that Linsey’s
line delivery is natural. And that’s it. Everything else is absolutely
ridiculous. This isn’t Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a
Comedy Series, it’s Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series (a.k.a. Soap
Opera). And even in the former category, this wouldn’t get a nomination with
how ridiculous it is. Every year, this category has one performance that you
wonder how it got nominated. This is this year’s.

Kelley Missal – I really hate to write this, but Kelley
lacked consistency. She started out with playing Danni as indignant. The second
Victor/Todd/whatever he was called walked into the room, she started
screeching, only to embrace the guy after 2 seconds. In the next scene, she’s
sweet and lovely, only to go back to being indignant when the other Todd walks
into the room. And, in the last scene, she is once again screaming for reasons
known only to Kelley and whoever wrote that scene. Also, the character
supposedly holds a grudge against her mother, yet Kelley doesn’t show that in
any of her scenes with Kelley and Tea.

Kim Matula – I bought Hope’s hurt and her feeling of having been
betrayed. She was solid in all of her scenes. Any woman could relate to that.
