I generally predict game by game, but I am happy to see the Giants and the Reds being more than a little competitive this year. Some new blood down the stretch would be very nice.

I have been thinking, for a while, that Washington Nationals will win their first-ever National League pennant for 2012.

There are just two, of the total 30, remaining MLB teams that have yet to represent their team in the World Series. And on the AL side, it’s Seattle Mariners. The last ten years have seen numerous get to the Fall Classic first time in franchise history: Arizona Diamondbacks (2001), Anaheim Angels [Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim] (2002), Houston Astros (2005), Colorado Rockies (2007), Tampa Bay Rays (2008), and Texas Rangers (2010).

For the 2012 pennant on the American League side, I lean to a third straight for Texas Rangers.

I don’t believe Tampa Bay will make it to the postseason. My home team, Detroit Tigers, blew at least half a dozen games they should have won (and could have been atop the AL Central); therefore, I predict Chicago White Sox will take the division.

Cincinnati Reds, with their last World Series championship in 1990 (under skipper Lou Piniella), is the best threat to Nats. And I think New York Yankees could, but won’t, upset Rangers.

    AL
    AL EAST: New York Yankees
    AL CENTRAL: Chicago White Sox
    AL WEST: Texas Rangers

AL WILD CARD: Baltimore Orioles vs. Oakland Athletics

    NL
    NL EAST: Washington Nationals
    NL CENTRAL: Cincinnati Reds
    NL WEST: San Francisco Giants

NL WILD CARD: Atlanta Braves vs. St. Louis Cardinals

I’m disappointed not to include Pittsburgh Pirates and Los Angeles Dodgers. But the dynamics, over the past few weeks, changed for both teams. And only once since the three-division structure, per league, has the American League’s wild card come from the central. (That was 2006, when Detroit had their last pennant-winning season.)

My home team is Detroit Tigers. And the conclusion of the regular games of the 2012 MLB season was Wednesday [10.03.2012]. A magnificent upset in and favoring Oakland [Athletics], and I’m delighted for them, came early in the evening before the official news of Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera having won the 2012 AL batting “triple crown.”

Cabrera is the first Major League Baseball player to do this since 1967, when Carl Yastrzemski pulled off the incredible feat for Boston Red Sox. Cabrera is the 10th individual player to win the batting triple crown since 1920. Here, at GoldDerby.com, we have acknowledged and expressed admiration for those who have won the showbiz triple crown. But in this thread, Cabrera may be saluted.

I’ll provide a link that gives a really good amount of reporting:

    Congratulations, Miguel Cabrera!
