Now I know I can’t be the only person here who read comics, right? lol.

    – What do you think of DC’s “New 52” reboot now thats in a year in.
Avengers vs. X-Men finally ends in 2 weeks. Hate it? Love it?
    – Looking forward to “Marvel NOW”?
    – Any future comic book films you’re looking forward to?
    Etc etc etc.

I don’t collect anymore but I used to.  I sold my collection.  Still, I have tons of graphic novels and compilations and keep pretty much up to date with the comic world, as much as a casual reader can.

I love that the original five X-Men are being reunited in their own comic, with the return of Jean Grey (Phoenix; my favorite comic character ever) being somewhat of a catalyst for the reunion.  I’ll definitely be getting that issue.

Also, I love DC’s “New 52” reboot. I think they needed to do that.  Plus, I worship the ground Jim Lee walks on (he’s still my favorite comic artist ever; well, him and John Byrne  ).

    That’s about it, for now.

OMG I thought I was the only one who loved comics! I love X-Men.

Ugh Avengers Vs. X-Men is one of the biggest trainwreck events ever.

I still don’t know how I feel about Avengers vs. X-Men. Half the time I think it’s good, and the other half I think it’s pointless. A lot of the tie-ins are the same way. The Avengers books haven’t been all that great (this weeks Avengers issue was fucking AWFUL) but the X-Men ones have been really great. I’m just glad it’s ending.

Have you two read any compilations/graphic novels?  I’m partial to the ’70’s and ’80’s compilations of Uncanny X-Men.  Chris Claremont and John Byrne were sheer BRILLIANCE personified.  They gave the book a cinematic quality that would only be matched later in the ’90’s by Claremont’s brief team-up with legend Jim Lee.  Here are a few I love.

Uncanny X-Men: The Dark Phoenix Saga (probably the single best storyline in a mainstream comic)
Uncanny X-Men: Days of the Future Past (not far behind Phoenix…)
    Watchmen
    Batman: The Long Halloween
    Batman: Dark victory
    Batman: Year One
    Sandman: Dream Country

    etc, etc, etc.

I loved the Phoenix Saga stuff. Makes me hate X3 even more than I already do, with the butchering they did to that storyline.

The Batman graphic novels are amazing and I highly suggest reading them even if you never touched a comic book. Add Arkham Aslyum: A Serious House on Serious Earth to that list if you really wanna get creeped out. Most disturbing thing I’ve ever read.

Dark Phoenix Saga is one of my favorite comic book stories. Had everything I love in there. I do love Storm, Rogue, Emma Frost, Jean Grey, and Kitty Pryde.
I’m not the biggest DC fan but I did love Batman Arkham City.

I wondered if your username was referencing Emma.

Jean Grey has always been my favorite character.  She’s so…dichotomous and for the longest was the biggest underdog of Marvel Universe. And I love my underdogs, lol.

Haha you’re right it is based on her name.
I’ve always loved Jean as well. It really infuriates me however that she’s been dead for almost ten years, and Marvel has been trolling Jean fans for some time. Everyone else who’s died at the time of her death has come back. Ugh.

She’s died and been resurrected so many times, it’s a running joke, lol.  However, you do know that “the real” Jean Grey is supposedly returning within the next few months and that’s the catalyst for the original five being reunited?  It apparently all begins/began with the X-Men vs. Avengers storyline and the “Phoenix Five”.  Again, haven’t kept up much beyond that, but I’m looking forward to seeing how “the real Jean Grey” returns, though I’m sure it’ll involve a bit of time travel, lol.

Also, Jean and Emma, if you remember, had a battle of epic proportions back in the day

Yeah I know the original X-Men (Cyclops, Jean, Beast, Iceman, and Angel) are returning to the main stream era. It is the real Jean, but its just not the same. Though whatever I wonder how long they’ll stay. And yes I know for a fact those two have been frenemies for some time.

    lol! Too perfect, huh?

So, can one of you, or both of you, or someone, update me on this whole “Phoenix Five” thing? Beyond the fact that the Phoenix force somehow inhabited those five characters (Cyclops, Colossus and his sis, Magik, Namor and Emma Frost/White Queen), I know nothing.  Why?  What is the X-Men vs Avengers storyline heading?  Any interesting spoilers?  I’ve tried hunting for spoilers but it’s too much work and I can’t find anythingn summarizing things.

Basically the Avengers tried to destroy the Phoenix from coming to the earth. It failed, and just split the force which was given to Emma, Cyclops, Namor, Magik, and Colossus. So far every one of the Phoenix Five has gotten the force taken away besides Scott, who has now turned into Dark Phoenix. This event really is the true definition of trainwreck haha.

LOL the last AvX issue. File under: things never would have went wrong had this happened from the very start.

LOL some more at Cyclops being put in jail for things he did while under the Phoenix’s influence, but Wanda kills two Avengers, depowers 99% of mutants (killing who knows how many more people in the process) and gets away with it because she’s “ill.” Give me a fucking break. And I say this as someone who doesn’t even like Cyclops.

And really, Magento is now a wanted criminal even though he hasn’t done anything wrong in who knows how long? God, what a mess.
