    Picture this…

You have a filmmaker who makes the best films and is always in contention for Oscar, but he’s a total dick to everyone. Or you have someone on a reality-competition series like The Voice who is an amazing singer but is, again, a total jerk to people. Would he win/get an Oscar because he’s good at what he does, or would he lose because he doesn’t treat people with respect.

Assholes sometimes ‘win’ (Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, the Rockefellers etc), but in the end, isnt having a workable personality a talent as well?

Who is going to vote for an Oscar contender who treated them with disrespect?

    Not me….

Well James Cameron is egotistical in real life and his two films Avatar and Titanic were #1 and #2 at the box office for a long time (not sure if they still are though). Obviously audiences don’t care and I don’t necessarily think that it doesn’t matter. Talent is talent. I admit that there are some people I follow on YouTube who do amazing work but aren’t necessarily humble or nice about it.

Although I dont know Cameron, he was not an asshole towards me. The talk I had with him was courteous and very interesting. He’s an environmental advocate and his knowledge about certain issues surprises me, since…you wont read about it in any mainstream newspaper.

Personally I’m happy for his success. His attention to detail is astonishing.

Maybe he had a change of heart recently, but back in 2009 (the last time he had a notable movie) I remember his Golden Globe acceptance speech when he won Best Director for Avatar rubbing a lot of people the wrong way.
