As in ones I’m glad happened or ones I’m sad happened?
I guess I’ll do a mix of both.

1 Juliette Binoche beating Lauren Bacall
This shouldn’t have happened and without Harvey Weinstein, wouldn’t have happened.

2 Moonlight beating La La Land
I was happy Moonlight and LLL ended up splitting Picture & Director; LLL was my favourite movie of the year but Moonlight deserved to win. It was a sign of a new era and the way it happened was deliciously symbolic.

    3 Crash beating Brokeback Mountain
It stung at the time and it stings now.

4 Grace Kelly beating Judy Garland
The quintessential example of the long-standing toxic culture where female newcomers are automatically preferred over seasoned talent.

5 Adrien Brody beating everyone else
The long-standing toxic culture where seasoned male talent is automatically preferred over newcomers is something that needs to be fixed; Brody was a refreshing exception to that rule and a glimmer of hope that things would change, although they didn’t.

“The Florida Project”: “Always use condoms.”
    “The Post”: “Truth wins out.”

SQ for “The Hours,” “Into the Woods,” “Moonlight,” & “Spotlight”
