The company I work for is doing something called a White Elephant Gift Exchange this Christmas, and I’m horrible with gift ideas for those I’m not overly familiar with. The exchange is like a game, and you pick a gift by drawing a number, and as your number is called you pick a present from the pile and whatever is inside, that’s your gift. However, you can steal someone’s gift instead of picking a random one from the pile if you so choose, and others can steal a gift from you. The gifts can be serious presents or funny gag gifts (example- a co-worker informed me that she’s doing both by bringing a copy of ‘Magic Mike’ and an elephant g-string, LOL!). I think I’d like to do something similar, make it a funny gift as well as a real gift, but I’d like some ideas from everyone on what kinds of things that should be. I’d love to hear all of your suggestions! Thanks in advance, I really appreciate it.

And here I thought DD would be the first to suggest this.. LOL! Oh, it’s crossed my mind. As well as alcohol of some kind, lol.

@Pook: No limit, but I personally would like to keep it under $50.

My go-to gift is movie night in a bag. Go and buy a good DVD to watch (spending limit will dictate new release or older classic) and then supplement it with some microwave popcorn, candy, maybe a fleece blanket, good pasta & sauce for dinner & a movie, etc. It’s gender neutral and will definitely be used.

I agree! Get like a hot dvd of the year like Avengers, Spiderman, Hunger Games, or The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
If you’re feeling cheap and silly maybe you can buy them a jar of Nutella, slippers, socks, a nice notebook, a weapon, FIfty Shades of Grey, a comic book, a gift card, head phones, iShuffle, or a picture frame.

Forgive me for being a popcorn pooper, but I’d stay away from “microwave” anything. The linings inside those popcorn things, along with that magical ‘sprinklings’ inside has been associated with disease. This is, irrefutable from the evidence.

I agree with this gift concept, except, I’d replace the microwave stuff with a box of organic popcorn, which is a topic unto itself. What movie though? Lol.

That’s a great idea!! I love it! I was a manager at Hollywood Video for a few years and I used to make bundle baskets similar to that for raffle promotions! I don’t know why I didn’t think of that myself… Great suggestion Eddie!

LOL!!! I’m about to combine yours, Ed’s, and Pook’s together!

A movie, organic popcorn, slipper socks, some Nutella, and a throw blanket. So far I’m actually getting some great ideas. Thanks you guys!

Not a prob 🙂 (posted under my FB account earlier, trying to use this one instead) It’s the easiest thing to do and a great way to put your personality into it. And who doesn’t love a movie on a cold winter night?

My go-to gift for a while has been a lava lamp (twn to fifteen dollars), maybe along with some chocolates or something to fill up the remainder of the typical twenty-dollar limit.

I might be switching my go-to gift this year to a Snuggie (about twenty dollars).

Our office has been doing this for years (here it’s called “Yankee Swap”). Nothing as involved as what’s been described here, but it’s a ton of fun regardless. I’m having a hard time figuring out what to bring next week (we go for inexpensive gifts, bad economy and all), so I’ll be fishing this thread for possible ideas too.
