Well I’m thousands of miles away from Sandy’s apex, squeezed between it and the earthquake on the west coast, so I havent lost any power. But I’ve been pretty stressed out about my friends and family, who live in both areas.

Tune in Tonight: NBC’s Hurricane Sandy Telethon

    Nov 2, 2012 03:39 PM ET

    by Liz Raftery

Bruce Springsteen, Christina Aguilera, Billy Joel, Bon Jovi, and other stars will come together for a one-hour telethon Friday to benefit the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

The event, dubbed “Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together,” will be hosted by Matt Lauer and will air live on NBC at 8/7c. The telethon will also be live-streamed on NBC.com and will be broadcast across NBCUniversal’s network and cable channels, including Bravo, CNBC, E!, G4, MSNBC, Style, Syfy, and USA. (The telethon will be tape-delayed on the West Coast.)

As of Friday afternoon, thousands of residents in New York and New Jersey were still without power, and hundreds had been left homeless. The storm, which is estimated to cost about $50 billion, according to one consulting firm’s report, also killed dozens of people in several states.

Other stars scheduled to attend the benefit include New Yorkers Tina Fey, Kevin Bacon, James Gandolfini, Jon Stewart, and Jimmy Fallon.

All proceeds collected will go to the American Red Cross. To donate, visit http://www.redcross.org, call 1-800-HELPNOW or text “REDCROSS” to 90999 to make an automatic $10 donation.

I’m located right in Sandy’s path and my home has been out of power since Monday. Luckily, my friends in PA were unaffected and were nice enough to take us in. I plan on going home to assess the damage one of these coming days.

Us kids at NYU lost power Monday night. One of my roommates actually is from New Jersey, and apparently his parents lost their electricity, too. Fortunately, it looks like we just got the power back tonight, so things are looking up. :^)
