Entertainment Weekly will have their annual issue in December announcing their choice(s) for Entertainer of the Year.
Who do you think are the frontrunners for 2012?November 17, 2012 at 9:06 pm #445276
The Avengers. Or the Superhero if they don’t want to leave out Batman, Spider-Man, and the others.November 17, 2012 at 10:45 pm #445277
Jennifer LawrenceNovember 18, 2012 at 12:12 am #445278
Ben Affleck is a lock. Genius. Avengers? Just because a lot of people buy something doesn’t make it Great. Superheroes are fast food.November 18, 2012 at 12:45 am #445279
I think Jen has a real shot. She’s young and fresh, and did big-time favours for the box office. Then there’s The Avengers, who entertained people to the tune of $1,511,757,910 and counting. I cant see them going for an author this year, although I wouldnt rule out someone like Suzanne Collins entirely.
I really think Jennifer Lawrence is the front runner right now, especially if SLP also makes big-time B.O,November 18, 2012 at 7:41 am #445280
Channing Tatum had that unique feat of three $100 million grossers, but he was recently named “Sexiest Man Live” by People, so it might be overkill.
The Avengers or superheroes in general is an excellent suggestion given the massive success.
Daniel Craig or James Bond because of the triumphant return and the 50th anniversary.
Adele (great album sales, Grammy wins, Bond theme), Taylor Swift (amazing album sales and successful singles) and Adam Levine (Maroon 5 had two big singles and he had personal exposure from “The Voice”) are possibilities from the music world. Justin Bieber, Rihanna and One Direction are not out of the question.
As far as television is concerned, here are some choices that might not get the big title but could receive mentions: Louis C.K. (he also tours), Claire Danes/ Damian Lewis, Zooey Deschanel, Lena Dunham, Jessica Lange, Maggie Smith (also has film work) and the cast of “Modern Family” or the judges from “The Voice”.
Does anyone have last year’s list?November 18, 2012 at 9:31 am #445281
It’s either Jennifer Lawrence or Channing Tatum, I think. Or Adele.November 18, 2012 at 11:18 am #445282
Taylor Swift likely won’t make the top spot, seeing as how she earned it just a few years back, but she could likely receive special mention. Channing Tatum was the first name that popped into my mind, though Jennifer Lawrence’s Oscar buzz would make her a more viable candidate, the more I think of it.
I scrolled through the EW slideshow (found here: http://www.ew.com/ew/gallery/0,,20326356_20554082_21093770,00.html)
Matt Stone and Trey Parker
Judges (Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, and Christina Aguilera)
The Cast of Bridesmaids
(Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Ellie Kemper, Wendi McLendon-Covey,
and Melissa McCarthy)
George R.R. Martin (Recommended by Amy Poehler of all people.)
Cast (Joel Kinnaman and Mireille Enos, in particular) (Notably, Stephen King essay expresses that he
was “dismayed” by the decline of the season. He ended up caring for the

Interesting list. I LOVE the Bond suggestion. Bond, James Bond. That film could wind up a phenomena by the time it ends it’s run. I’d be pleasantly shocked if Trey Parker and Matt Stone wins this. A big part of me wouldnt mind seeing that happen.November 18, 2012 at 11:31 am #445284
I can see Lawrence, Rihanna, Daniel Craig, Tatum, Lena Dunham, The Avengers, Claire Danes (or Homeland), One Direction, Anne perhaps or The Dark Knight Rises, Ryan Murphy, The Big Bang Theory (cast), Breaking Bad, The Elections, etc, etc Seth MacFarlane, Jessica Chastain… but yeah, for the top spot Lawrence or Tatum.November 18, 2012 at 8:20 pm #445285
I think Anne Hathaway, Channing Tatum, and Jennifer Lawrence will all make the Top 10.
Seth MacFarlane could be chosen, but the Oscars aren’t until February.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Matthew McConaughey have had great years as well.
For TV, certainly Claire Danes/Damian Lewis, Louis C.K., and Lena Dunham.
Jessica Chastain has multiple films plus a new play on Broadway.November 18, 2012 at 9:28 pm #445286
Anne Hathaway! I forgot to mention her. Les Mis, Dark Knight, high visibility.November 28, 2012 at 7:41 am #445287
Here we go, guys!
That’s an interesting choice for the top slot.
Other citations include:
the cast of Showtime’s Homeland
Lena Dunham (YAY!)
Joss Whedon (The Avengers)
Anne Hathaway (The Dark Knight Rises, Les Miserables)
Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games, Silver Linings Playbook)
Joseph Gordon-LevittNovember 28, 2012 at 12:04 pm #445288
Wow that’s a really bad choice. Ben Affleck isn’t 2012’s entertainer of the year no matter how you define it (best or biggest).
I guess congratulations are in order for his publicist and the team behind the “Argo” campaign for getting this “honor”.
