Like many others here I am a huge fan of VEEP and thought season 5 was one of the best seasons of any TV show ever. A big reason for that is the storyline about Jonah running for congress Timothy Simmons made every part of that so funny I thought he was due for an emmy nom. Instead Matt Walsh gets nominated who I love but I’m confused. His character is a straightman in the show he does more dry humor compared to Jonah. He did have a very sad story arc about the Chinese Babies but still how the voters didn’t see Tim Simmons as outstanding enough to nominate is puzzling to me. Can anyone explain?
Brother, wrong forum! Post this on the TV forum.
But the answer to your question: W. #ballots
Simons should ALSO have gotten in, not necessarily INSTEAD of Walsh.
Simons is in his thirties and had no credits before Veep. Walsh has over a hundred credits from the last two decades.
Veep has a deep bench when it comes to potential Supporting Actor nominations. Unfortunately, they won’t be lucky like Modern Family and have 3 to 4 nominees in the Supporting Actor and neither do I think that all 4 deserve the nomination. The other show that have deserved 4 Supporting Actor nominations in a Comedy would be Arrested Development.
Someone voters may detest the Jonah character. Walsh is the veteran and is as deserving of recognition from the supporting male ensemble as anyone else. My preference has been for Jonah since season one.
