I was really hoping for more tennis fans on the new site.  It would be great to see a Serena/Maria QF.  Too bad Roddick went down with injury.  Hopefully he does not have another injury plagued year.

Another major. Another loss for my favorites. I support Sharapova and Nadal fully. It’s pretty heartbreaking to see them lose in the finals… again. Shar was merely outplayed, but Nadal could have and should have won that match. A few inexplicable errors on his racket is what kept him from taking down that arrogant idiot. Nadal really needs to stop standing so far behind the baseline when he’s returning. He couldn’t even get into so many of Novak’s games. Hopefully he can get a win off of Novak before the French Open.

When the top female players are at their best they will beat Sharapova. Her game is too limited. She’s gonna need some luck in order to win another major. I hope she continues to play for at least another couple of years.

    Hello gang!

It has been a long time since I checked in here. They changed the Goldderby site and  I just haven’t been on much in nearly a year.  I have been of course following the tennis scene and a couple of observations. Brilliance inmorbid, I agree with you about Sharapova.  She is just a ball-basher now who doesn’t move well around the court and will never again have the consistency with her serve. She definitely would need to have a very good luck of the draw to win another major going forward.

A fantastic match with Djokovic and Nadal.  Rafa definitely had his chances, but Novak came up with the goods when he needed it. So, now Novak has won 7 consecutive matches against him, including beating Rafa in three slam finals in this stretch, and no doubt he is in Rafa’s head. It is amazing that Rafa has pretty much had the best of Federer in their H2H, but Novak now has Rafa’s number for the time being. It’s all about match-ups and styles.Congrats to Novak on winning his third Aussie Open title, and five slam titles overall. He has had a sensational past 12 months. He now has won the last three grand slam tourneys in succession.

I can’t wait to see how things will shake down in Paris in a few months. Djokovic will be going for the career slam. His confidence is absolutely in the stratosphere now. Rafa is the king of clay no doubt, but right now, I really like Novak’s chances of  winning the French. He is playing unbelievable right now.

Great day in FL.  Very happy to see Roddick show he still has a little left in the tank.  Here’s hoping Venus can dig even deeper and beat Ana.

WOW!!!! The title was hers for the taking and Maria still faltered. Props to Radwanska.  I hope Andy can give Novak a fight tomorrow but I still give Novak the edge.

Even though she lost there’s no reason why Victoria wont have a great clay court season.

Its a shame to see Kim limping to the end.  I’d love to her do well before its all over.

As for my Williams Sisters, it looked to me like Venus cared a lot more than Serena did.

Serena is doing just fine. She just won her 40th career title last week at the Family Circle tourney down in South Carolina, a clay court event. Serena looked terrific in that toruney as I am sure she was on a mission after her lethargic showing down at the Sony Ericcson against Wozniacki. I think the thing about Serena and Venus at this stage of their careers is just playing enough to stay in match shape and more importantly, remain as healthy as possible in the coming months. Both are really targeting Wimbledon and the Olympics later this summer and I am sure they are really prepping for those events very carefully. I am happy to see Venus still out there competing well after it was disclosed that she has been having to manage Sjogren’s syndrome for the past year or so.

The win in Charleston for Serena is significant though in that she may be making another good push to win another title at Roland Garros, which will commence just over a month from now. She has now been added to play on the Fed Cup U.S. team next week in Ukraine, which is on clay, and is scheduled to play in Madrid in a few weeks. Serena is Serena. We all know if she is totally focused, healthy and motivated, she will be a solid favorite in Paris next month. She has played well at Roland Garros these past several years, but she hasn’t been able to get past the quarterfinals there. If she can get past that round this season, and if her serve and ground game is humming on all cylinders, her second title in Paris may be coming.

Who are your favorite tennis players FishBiscuit? I was just wondering. I honestly do not want much tennis unless it is one of the majors.

    Women: Serena Williams

    Men: Rafael Nadal

I’m really a fan of the sport and I like most players.  I LOVED Monica Seles. Also, Andre Agassi may be my favorite player of all time.

I feel badly for saying this but Nadal needs to seize this opprtunity and defeat a weakend, mentally, Novak.

I watched the Monte Carlo final and not to take anything away from Rafa’s performance, but Djokovic simply played dispirited and was very lackluster with his play yesterday in the straight sets defeat. He flat out looked resigned and just appeared that he did not want to be out there yesterday. But Nadal looked sharp and played on form and very comfortable back on his favorite surface. He owns Monte Carlo, having not lost a match there since 2003. Rafa also stated that his knee felt fine after the match, so that bodes well going into the rest of the clay court season for him.  More importantly, Rafa broke Djokovic’s streak of 7 straight wins in finals over him. No question, he reminded everyone that he is still the undisputed king of clay.
