For some reason, the BBC is asking Film Critics for their best 10 films released in the 00’s/10’s in the middle of 2016….I don’t get why either.

But if you had a ballot to fill in, which TEN (no more, no less) would you vote for.

Will be interesting to see what a Gold Derby forum posters top 10 would look like if we collate them together.

Films only qualify if they were initially released on, or after, January 1st 2000.

It was helpful having put together a Top 10 list for the first decade of the century already, so this list was a matter of deciding which of those films have slipped in my memory and which films since 2010 should join the ranks.

It’s tricky because some films have had 15 years to set up camp in my mind and others are just a year or two old. I considered factors like initial reaction (that slack-jawed wow during the end credits is a must), but also rewatchability (which films do I most want to see again, and which hold up the best if I already have).

    1. Angels in America (2003)
    2. Mulholland Drive (2001)
    3. 12 Years a Slave (2013)
    4. Inside Out (2015)
    5. Wit (2001)
    6. WALL-E (2008)
    7. Interstellar (2014)
    8. A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)
    9. Wonder Boys (2000)
    10. No Country for Old Men (2007)

    Runners-Up:
The Act of Killing, Amour, Gravity, Million Dollar Baby, Poetry, Secret Sunshine, Stories We Tell, United 93
