At it’s home court in BAFTA, other then BP, it’s only other win was Best Actor. A feat it has no chance at repeating at Oscar since Matthew McConaughey will win there.

It couldn’t win screenplay. Captain Phillips won WGA and ACE and Abdi won BAFTA, and Philomena won the BAFTA screenplay.

Jennifer Lawrence won the BAFTA over the heavily favored Nyong’o.

    Forget about techs.

So at the end of the day, it has no “locked” wins. The last film to win BP alone was all the way in 1935.

So what is it going to win?

Don’t rely on the recent headlines of BAFTA to indicate what Oscar voters will say. 12 Years a Slave will still win Supporting Actress (are they really giving Lawrence back to back Oscars? Come on now), and Adapted Screenplay (Captain Phillips won because 12 Years a Slave wasn’t nominated).

Supporting Actress and that’s all it deserves.

It is actually interesting when you think about it. The ONLY award that 12 Years a Slave has won everywhere, is Best Picture.

Squibb has a better chance than JL.

I do think 12 Yrs could win BP with only 2 Oscars though. I doubt it wins more than 3 (though if it wins BP I think it has a 50% chance of director as well, so might be 4).

You need to give it a rest.

@demondog: Lawrence most likely prevailed because she lost last year. Weren’t you the same person saying Bullock was going to win? Right. I’ll believe it when I see it.

    Demon Hog – Rude much?

I call it like I see it, and I’m usually on target. Lawrence isn’t going to win a 2nd consecutive Oscar. Squibb is best positioned to win if there is an upset.

I don’t understand the systematic rejection of this movie by the awards bodies. Giving it Best Picture and ignoring it elsewhere feels calculated and disingenuous.

I agree – Squibb def can spoil here. Her performance is my favorite in the film- and on other notes, she’s most likely to appeal to older voters, and it’s a way to honor Nebraska with an award.

No, I have never said that Bullock will win.  You have me confused with another poster.
