Absent are War Horse, Midnight in Paris (the former is a big surprise), Moneyball – 3 of the 7 most likely BP nominees

I can see “Bridesmaids” getting into every single guild except DGA. It definitely has passion behind it!

    Yay for Drive!

I am most surprised by MiP’s ommission, actually, I would have predicted a win for it. I suspect The Artist, Harry Potter 7.2, and ..Dragon Tattoo will win these.

I’d be surprised if Hugo doesn’t beat The Artist, here and for the Oscar as well.

I think Hugo will win this. It will also win the Oscar.
    My current predictions:

    THE ARTIST
HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS – PART 2
    HUGO
    TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY
    WAR HORSE

Yes Hugo should win but where is Tree of Life. Rather shocked that this vision of loveliness didn’t get nominated in this category.

As I think EC knows, Jack Fisk, the PD of TToL is married to her BFF Sissy Spacek. Fisk did win this award for There Will Be Blood, but lost the Oscar (this was his only nomination).

My guess is the lack of the nomination came from most of the sets being actual locations, not constructed for the movie. (My understanding is they used three different houses to create the single one created for the Texas scenes, which in itself takes some creativity).

    The Help? Bridesmaids?

    LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

I second this. And i raise The Descendants. (haven’t seen it, but isn’t it all about Hawaii? As beautifult as it is, but a nom?)

    Would have nominated Moneyball instead.
Btw, where do Iron Lady and My Week with M fall under? I guess the latter is period right?

I have no idea how they do these things, but TIL is about 40% present time, and the rest mainly within the last 30 years, so most likely considered contemporary.
