Something to take note, films that screened at AFI Fest (World Premiere, Special Screenings/Opening Closing Night) always make the lineup. The Fighter, J. Edgar, Saving Mr Banks, Inside LLewyn Davis etc…

    Top 10

    Birdman
    American Sniper
    Boyhood
    Selma
    The Grand Budapest Hotel
    A Most Violent Year
    Unbroken
    Inherent Vice
    Wild
    Whiplash

Removed The Imitation Game & The Theory of Everything from my predictions. British faif

    Interesting fact:

Dallas Buyers Club and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close are the only two “:Ämerican” films that  have missed an AFI Top 10 citation and went on to be nominated for Best Picture.

    Foxcatcher…..here’s looking at you.

    And the list is:

    American Sniper

    Birdman

    Boyhood

    Foxcatcher

    The Imitation Game

    Interstellar

    Into the Woods

    Nightcrawler

    Selma

First time there’s a tie, thus 11 movies made it.

So I guess “The Grand Budapest Hotel” didn’t qualify as an American film?

It’s strange to see “The Imitation Game” here when it obviously isn’t American.

Glad to see “Gone Girl” was left out. I didn’t care for it at all.

Interesting that on the jury was Jeanine Basinger, who handles an archive of Clint Eastwood’s films and also heads the National Board of Review. That explains why American Sniper is at both (and Fury, NBR’s Ensemble win, has his son in it!)…
