When you make your predictions, it is typically going to be someone that doesn’t have something in strong contention this year and willing to show up.

Here are the ones I think are most possible this year…

    WOMEN —
    Julie Andrews
    Carol Burnett
    Glenn Close
    Sally Field
    Jane Fonda
    Whoopi Goldberg
    Goldie Hawn
    Diane Keaton
    Angela Lansbury
    Helen Mirren
    Mary Tyler Moore
    Susan Sarandon

    MEN —
    Alan Alda
    Jeff Bridges
    Michael Caine
    Bill Cosby
    Tom Cruise
    Billy Crystal
    Johnny Depp
    Robert Duvall
    Ron Howard
    Samuel L. Jackson
    George Lucas
    Steve Martin
    Eddie Murphy
    Peter O’Toole
    John Travolta
    Denzel Washington

Tom Hanks, George Clooney, Jessica Lange, and Meryl Streep will receive this one day but not this year since they are very strong contenders to be nominated.

George Lucas. He sold Lucasfilm and semi-retired, settled into philanthropy (which is a big deal for HFPA), and with the new “Star Wars” films coming up, now’s the time to do it.

Is there an official rule stating those nominated for a competitive prize are disqualified from honorary recognition?

No, but they try to make sure that does not happen. They don’t want someone potentially winning an award the same night they devote a large segment to them as well.

My guesses are (and I have a feeling it will probably be one of these people):

    1) Jane Fonda
    2) Julie Andrews
    3)  George Lucas

    My predictions would be:

    1- Julie Andrews
    2- George Lucas
    3- Steve Martin
4- Jane Fonda (but she has The Butler coming out)
    5- Glenn Close

I doubt it will be Helen Mirren since she will probably be a nominee for Phil Spector.

Peter O’Toole recently retired. He might be a good bet.
