Tonight, I FINALLY got round to seeing Deadpool (loved it by the way). One thing did keep running through my head as Ryan Reynolds made effortless joke after effortless joke – this guy deserves (at least) a Globe Comedy nod.

Then, I recalled the trailers of the probable half dozen superhero films showcased before the film started, and questioned whether this could be the year for superhero films to finally break through in awards season.

In terms of performances, aside from Reynolds, Margot Robbie looks insanely brilliant in the Suicide Squad trailer – enough for a Supporting campaign perhaps? Maybe Leto in the same film, or even Jesse Eisenberg in Batman V Superman? Elsewhere, the screenplay of Deadpool was utterly fantastic and constantly on the money. The costumes and make up design for Suicide Squad looks brilliantly on point.

My point is, do you think this is the year for a superhero film to finally break the curse. The Dark Knight went some way to break it, but not fully. What do you think (sight unseen for many of these films and their rivals) are the chances of one, or more, of these films breaking through relatively big time (past the effects and sound categories)?

Oh, AMG, I wish. Although, I do think Deadpool is incredibly deserving of Golden Globe recognition. But it’ll probably miss out to light dramatic fare passing as comedies.

Doubtful, regardless of the quality of the film, although a “Superman” gung-ho type may have the best shot.

And not unless the voting body has a huge, collective bowel movement which puts a big fat smile on their faces.

Ryan is terrific in Buried btw, and he missed out there too. Even  thespians like Jack Nicholson, Michelle Pfeiffer, Anne Hathaway and Christian ‘hearmylisp’ Bale got nowhere with them.

I believe only Leto has a chance of getting nominated if he is mind-blowingly good. Other than him, I’m gonna say no too.

I can see Deadpool being nominated at the Golden Globes in Best Comedy Motion Picture & Actor.

I can also see Deadpool getting an Oscar nod for Best Make Up & Hairstyling.

I don’t see any Super Hero film getting an above the line nomination expect maybe Margot Robbie in Supporting Actress for Suicide Squad. I can only see her being nominated if the catergory is weak though.
