I hope Damien Chazelle wins! He is having a great year! La La Land is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a while!

Chris, I sent you an email. Did you get it?

I’m hoping for a Jenkins upset. Moonlight is one of the greatest directorial achievements, if not the greatest, I have ever seen.

Some people here think any film that is not “La La Land” is great achievement

I am happy if either Chazelle or Jenkins wins but I would be over the moon with a Kenneth Lonergan upset.

I think we would all like to see an unexpected winner (Jenkins or Lonergan) but Chazelle going to win for pulling off a modern musical with a lot of class. In my opinion, Lonergan, Jenkins, Chazelle and Villanueve all made masterpieces this year and their work in 2016 will go down in history with some of the best movies ever

There have only been 8 years since the beginning of the DGA awards that the winner for Best Director of a Feature did not win the Oscar:

1949 Robert Rossen, All The King’s Men
1968 Anthony Harvey, The Lion In Winter
1972 Francis Ford Coppola, The Godfather
1985 Steven Spielberg, The Color Purple (not nominated for Oscar)
    1995 Ron Howard, Apollo 13
2000 Ang Lee, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
    2002 Rob Marshall, Chicago
2012 Ben Affleck, Argo (not nominated for Oscar)

Will this be the 9th time? I say NO, the awards are both going to Damien Chazelle for La La Land…

I’d honestly rather see Garth Davis win for Lion than Lonergan and Jenkins. But still, Davis will win the “First-time Director” Award as a consolation prize of sorts, so I’m okay with Chazelle winning, who would be my #2 pick.

I switched from The Night Of to All The Way yesterday, and then I chickened out and switched back to TNO. It has been more critically acclaimed than the LBJ biopic, and I think they are going to want the give the miniseries an Emmy boost.

Right now I’m 5 for 6 of the categories that (Goldderby let me predict) have been called so far! 😀
