    FIRST TIME FEATURE:
    Get Out
    Lady Macbeth
    Molly’s Game
    Patti Cake$
    Wind River

So lazy. And Wind River is not a first time feature. I’ve actually seen his first film and it’s AWFUL.

His first film went direct-to-DVD, so this is his first theatrically released film that he has directed. I have seen all of these movies and Lady MacBeth was EASILY the worst of the bunch. I would take that out for Ingrid Goes West any day.

Saw Phantom Thread. No longer think it is in play for a fringe BP spot. Poor Manville was like one scene away from getting a spot. Krieps is best in show. DDL subtle but powerful. PTA as uncommercial as ever. Wouldn’t count it out for Screenplay nod, it’s deviously funny, if even inherent vice could make it.

Alison Janney appears to be a bigger threat than I thought. I could even see I, Tonya getting in for BP.

I still have I, Tonya getting into Best Picture at the Oscars even without a DGA nomination. While it got snubbed for Picture at Bafta, I believe that it would have made the cut if there had been more than 5 nominees in that category, judging my its 5 nods elsewhere, including for Writing and 2 for acting.

And I made my last predictions change, finally putting In The Fade into the foreign language film category after wins at both the Globes and the Critics Choice Awards. Now I believe that Diane Kruger is a very strong threat for a Best Actress nomination and anticipate gasps if her name is announced, especially depending on whom she would displace.

I too think I, Tonya is in for Picture and probably Film Editing.

Yeah it keeps going in the direction of Dallas Buyers Club. It’s gaining momentum at the same time as that film was.

I only see 8 nominations for BP this year.  The 8th and final spot is between The Big Sick and I, Tonya. I see the former making it.

I want them to go back to five nominees so badly.

I’d be fine with up to 10 nominees if they were good nominees. But they aren’t capable of that so I’d prefer five to keep sweet and short.

Kidman should be the surprise nominee for Best Supporting Actress.

She is amazing in The Killing of a Secret Deer.

Is it just me or does the gap between these early awards and when the Oscar winners are announced feel unusually long? I think that’s important to bear in mind, as these early wins can be less reliable than usual.

Is “You Were Never Really Here” eligible this year or next?

Next. I should really have taken a victory lap since after Cannes I was being attacked for saying Kruger would be closer to a nod than Phoenix

Yeah, who would have thought. I wonder whether there’s a plan to push it or not.
