EE Rising Star Award 2014 nominees announced:

    *Dane Dehaan
    *Lupita Nyong’O
    *George Mackay
    *Will Poulter

    *Léa Seydoux

The EE Rising Star Award is the only award at the EE British Academy Film Awards to be voted for by the public. Now in its ninth year (previously the Orange Rising Star), the award has set a standard for identifying talent destined for future film stardom. The award was created in honour of Mary Selway, the highly respected BAFTA-winning casting director whose career spanned three decades and over ninety films before she died in 2004.

    Voting ends: 14th February 2014

Thanks for posting this. Some good names.

Lupita Nyongo’ will probably win, but I hope she doesn’t. Why? Because she’ll probably win every Supporting Actress award there is, including the supporting actress BAFTA, and I’d rather they spread the love!

Dane Dehaan and Lea Seydoux are my faves, but I’d vote for Lea, because I doubt she’ll make it into the main supporting actress category, and it would be cool to see her win a televised award. She’s been completely overlooked this award season!

Surprised they picked Lea and not Adele, but I assume it’s because they think Adele will be in the main Best Actress category instead.

12 Years a Slave will win everywhere, including the 3 acting categories it’s contending for. Cate or Judi will win Best Actress.

anybody know if the BAFTAs will be shown in the States and if so, on what channel? This is the first time I’ve ever missed them and I ADORE Stephen Fry! So pleased it’s him and not Jonathan Woss.

UK residents vote on the Rising Star Award. If she wins or loses is up to the UK public who participates.

I have no shame saying I know nothing about the BAFTAs but my guess is Philomena and American Hustle will get a lot of nominations.

Yes, I’m well aware it’s a public vote, lol, Words Count. When i said i hope they spread the love, I meant I hope the UK public realize Nyongo’ will win the Supporting actress bafta, and decide to pick someone different for the Rising Star award.

I don’t think Nyong’o will win the Rising Star Award, and not because they realize that she’s probably gonna win supporting actress. She’s completely unknown to the public outside of those who’s seen her in 12 Years A Slave. Dane DeHaan easily got this with the number of movies he was in recently plus with the coverage he’s got thanks to his upcoming role in the new Spiderman movie.

Good point. Dane Dehaan’s star has risen these past few years, and he’ll probably have a lot of UK fans who will vote for him.

I thought that too, but I think she’ll show up in Best Actress, which would be way better anyway.

Yeah, I think she will be nominated for Best Actress over Streep.
