    8. Glenda Jackson, Women in Love

More than likely the decade were I had the largest number of my top choices win.  One more note, I’ve always felt Field’s NORMA RAE way overrated.

    1. Ellen Burstyn, Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore (Top choice in 74.)
    2. Jane Fonda, Klute (Top choice in 71.)
    3. Diane Keaton, Annie Hall (Top choice in 77.)
    4. Liza Minnelli, Cabaret (Top choice in 72.)
    5. Jane Fonda, Coming Home (My choice was Page in 78. I ranked Fonda 4th that year.)
    6. Glenda Jackson, Women In Love (My choice was Snodgress in 70. I ranked Jackson 2nd.)
    7. Faye Dunaway, Network (My choice was Ullmann in 76. I ranked Dunaway 4th.)
    8. Louise Fletcher, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (My choice was Adjani in 75. I ranked Fletcher 3rd.)
    9. Sally Field, Norma Rae (My choice was Midler in 79.  I ranked Field 4th.)
    10. Glenda Jackson, A Touch of Class (My choice is Burstyn in 73.  I ranked Jackson 5th.)

Oh no… Don’t do this to me. I love so many of these performances. Not to mention the nominated ones they beat. I’ll try…

    1. Ellen Burstyn, Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore
    2. Diane Keaton, Annie Hall
    3. Sally Field, Norma Rae
    4. Faye Dunaway, Network
    5. Liza Minnelli, Cabaret
    6. Glenda Jackson, Women in Love
    7. Glenda Jackson, A Touch of Class
    8. Jane Fonda, Klute
    9. Louise Fletcher, One Flew Over the Cuccoo’s Nest
    10. Jane Fonda, Coming Home

The top 3 are virtually tied in my head. Ask me tomorrow and I’ll surely rearrange them differently.

And I mean the top 5 alone puts entire decades of best actress winners to shame, especially from the 80s onwards. I should also say that I find Jane Fonda fantastic in Coming Home and it feels ridiculous raking her #10, but that’s how good this decade was.

    1. Jane Fonda in Klute (my favorite performance ever)
    2. Diane Keaton in Annie Hall
    3. Liza Minnelli in Cabaret
    4. Sally Field in Norma Rae
    5. Jane Fonda in Coming Home
    6. Ellen Burstyn in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore
    7. Glenda Jackson in Women in Love
    8. Glenda Jackson in A Touch of Class
    9. Faye Dunaway in Network
    10. Louise Fletcher in One Flew Over the Cuccoo’s Nest

#1-4 would actually make my TOP 10 in this category, while #5&6 are in my TOP 20. Jackson’s two wins and Dunaway are also very strong and Fletcher stands out in that horrible year as well. What a decade of Oscar winning ladies!
