    The Irishman
    Roma
    Backseat
    The kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara
    Widows
    Black Panther
    First Man
    Boy Erased
    If Beale Street could talk

How many films do you think will come from directors we have already had in the Best Picture arena … Do you think we will get some new blood in the Best picture ring ?

Do you think Black Panther has even an outside chance at getting into BP

The films that I am excited about and that I think will be in contention for Best Picture

Boy Erased(I could see this movie go the way of CMBYN. Might offend the Christan Right and not get a serious push).

    First Man

The Old Man and the Gun

    Backseat

    The Front-runner

Beautiful Boy(Not ready to give up on this movie)

    To be continued 🙂

“Backseat” seems to be the most Oscar bait film yet this season. It has a great cast, a release date that matches the award season and a very Oscar appealling biographical drama story. Besides that, Adam McKay have already proven himself to be a very good director.
“If Beale Street Could Talk” looks very promising to me cause I’m really looking forward Barry Jenkins next work. It has a relatively younger and fresh although very prosperous cast, and I’m really curious to see Regina King’s acting in this.
“Can You Ever Forgive Me?” may look like a risky choice but I’m counting on it cause it seems to be one of Fox Searchlight’s bet for this year’s award season. It has a favorable realease date and it’s the perfect opportunity for Melissa McCarthy to shine on the big screen.
The Old Man and the Gun” seems to be another Fox Searchlight bet and the kind of movie the academy appreciates. It has Robert Redford and Sissy Spacek elevating the cast but I’m affraid Cassey Affleck presence may hurt the movie’s chances and also I’m not quite convinced about David Lowery directing, but we’ll see…
Last Fox Searchlight bet, “The Favourite” is the ultimate opportunity for Yorgos Lanthimos to deliver a more complete, round project with an oscar appealing cast and theme. However, it’s a direct contender to the next bet in this list.
Mary Queen of Scots” screams Oscar, and it’s sure where Focus Features is putting most of its coins for this award season. It has Saoirse Ronan as lead and Margot Robbie as supporting, both enjoying a lot of support in the academy, also it seems to has what it takes to get a lot of tecnichal nods (costume design, prodution design, hair and make up, etc). With all of this on it’s side, it may be injured as it is the screen debut of its director Josie Rourke and it doesn’t take much for the academy to see it as an unnecessary, pointless remake.
Another Fox Features bet, “Boy Erased” may conquer a lot in this award season if it matches the expectations. Will Lucas Hedges be able to catch the heart of the voters after Chalamet rising the level so high for young actors? Will Nicole Kidman finally get a apropriate role to shine her acting habilities? I’m very unsure and hipotetical about this one (about all of the films at this point, but this one in especial), but I’m really cheering for it to do great.
Finally, “Widows” is another highly anticipated one. We all know Steve McQueen and Viola Davis give a lot in their works so I’m putting my coins on it because of human resources excellence.

How has no one mentioned Isle of Dogs by Wes Anderson as an animated (stop motion) Best Picture wildcard yet?

Luca Guadagnino is directing a remake of Suspiria that’s supposed to be released sometime this year.

Honestly I see an Adam McKay biopic of Dick Cheney having nearly a 60% chance of either getting critically slaughtered or just a strong consensus that it’s only okay–biopics of recent American figures almost never get Oscar kind of steam. To me it reeks of the unwise early prediction. First Man, The Favourite, Widows, and If Beale Street Could Talk will be in the mix somewhere.
