2017 Academy Award winner for Best Foreign Language Film (and Chile’s first-ever win) “A Fantastic Woman” is now going wide in most markets. Some have already seen it through “other” means, so for all of us, let’s gather around and discuss it.
Starring Daniela Vega, Francisco Reyes
Directed by Sebastián Lelio
I was quite taken by the film and the stunning performance from Daniela Vega. Compeling story from start to finish. I can’t say I was wholly into all of Lelio’s directorial … flourishes. Some were very self-indulgent. It’ll be interesting to see what the consensus ends up being for a film that’s both revolutionary and commonplace. I haven’t seen the rest of the field to know what the competition was like though, since nothing is available for wide view.
I still have not seen The Insult but from the four that i saw The Fantastic Woman was the best. Body And Soul was to weird and boring, The Square is good but should be a little shorter. Loveless is just a brutal film, there’s nothing to root for, the characters are all despicable and there’s not good massage out that film.
