Looks to be a very interesting film and a possible Oscar vehicle for McKellen.

Robert Downey, Jr., Benedict Cumberbatch, Jonny Lee Miller and Ian McKellan all in five years.  It is too much.

Yeah, too many versions of Sherlock Holmes in a short period of time, but McKellen as long-retired, 93-year-old Sherlock Holmes is somehow interesting.

McKellen is my favorite actor of all time – looking forward to this.

This is very exciting, because so far, we have three legitimate Best Actor contenders:

Joaquin Phoenix as Doc Sportello in Inherent Vice
Ralph Fiennes as Gustav H. in The Grand Budapest Hotel
Ian McKellan as Sherlock Holmes in A Slight Trick of the Mind

I still think Phoenix is going to win it. Doc Sportello is an amazing role, and if he gets nominated this year for Her and next year for Inherent Vice, he would have racked up 5 nominations, which means he’s going to win (the same can’t be said for Glenn Close, Julianne Moore and Annette Bening, who really need to win someday)

This film now has the more appropriate, but much less exciting, title of Mr. Holmes

It has just started filming, and Sir Ian posted the first picture on his Facebook account:

This could be fun. A lot of Sherlock in the past couple of years but I’m ok with that
