Awardsdaily has the trailer for ‘About Ray’ (previously titled ‘Three Generations’) in which Elle Fanning plays a young woman transitioning into a young man named Ray. Naomi Watts plays Ray’s mother and Susan Saradon plays his grandmother. This looks like it could be a Best Actress/Best Supporting Actress contender at the least, and TWC is backing it (Harvey apparently purchased it after seeing 10 minutes of footage at Cannes, similar to how he purchased ‘The Imitation Game’ and ‘Philomena’). Fanning and Watts both look terrific. Could this be the biggest year ever for the LBGT community at the Oscars (‘About Ray’, ‘Carol’, ‘Freeheld’, ‘The Danish Girl’, ‘Stonewall’, ‘Tangerine’ etc’)?August 7, 2015 at 12:14 am #191105

Yes this seems like a contender. I just hope Fanning gets more of a campaign than Watts. Fanning will probably need it more. I mean watts doesn’t need a strong campaign if she got a SAG nod for St. Vincent.August 7, 2015 at 10:13 am #191107
This looks so so so baity for Fanning, Watts, and Sarandon, but it looks pretty good for them too. It’s amazing that so many films centered around LGBT are seeing a big push this year. I hope exhaustion doesn’t cancel them out.August 7, 2015 at 11:28 am #191108
I like all three actresses (Fanning, Watts, Sarandon) and all three seem like they’re going to give great performances. I’m not so sure about the quality of the actual movie, something seems off to me. I hope I’m wrong about the movie itself.August 7, 2015 at 11:33 pm #191109
I’m super excited to see this film and yes, it looks like Fanning and Watts should be in the running this year. I hope the film and their performances get a proper campagin.August 28, 2015 at 1:17 am #191110
Watched now the trailer…not sure about the quality, but it looks interesting fo both Fanning and Watts.
In terms of awards Watts could have a chance submitting supporting even if she’s clearly a co-lead.
Sarandon, on the other hand..could be another thankless role (how many thankless roles she got in the past…20 years?!?)August 28, 2015 at 1:52 am #191111
Sarandon has two chances this season for a nomination.August 28, 2015 at 8:14 am #191112

A bazillion. She’s the go to actress for playing someone’s wife or mother these days. She was excellent in Moonlight Mile, Igby Goes Down, Jeff Who Lives at Home and Arbitrage but receieved no recongition for any of those films. Let’s hope this is a good role for her.August 28, 2015 at 8:15 am #191113

What’s the other chance?August 28, 2015 at 9:02 am #191114
What’s the other chance?
SPC is backing this one and it’s a lead role.August 28, 2015 at 9:18 am #191115
I thought the trailer looked mildly interesting, but reading an interview the director Gaby Dellal did, where she defends the casting of a cisgender actress in the role by refering to the character of Ray as “a girl who is presenting in a very ineffectual way as a boy” has me very worried about this.
Her comments haven’t really been sitting well with members of the transgender community, either.
