    Hi all,

I am always interested in hearing about how academy members will vote, even if it is a suspicion based on relationships, interviews, twitter, etc. Here are some I have noticed so far:

In a series of interviews with W Magazine, some actors mentioned the following:

    1) Edward Norton: His cinematic crush is Marion Cotillard….maybe a vote for her?

    2) Julianne Moore: Was “staggered” by Marion in Two Days, One Night. Is also good friends with Steve Carell….maybe a vote for best actor?

    3) Emma Stone: Sang the praises of the Foxcatcher clan

    On twitter:

    1) Laura Dern: Congratulated Reese, Julianne, Mark Ruffalo, and Patricia Arquette……guessing she will vote for Reese or Julianne in best actress, and maybe Ruffalo in supporting? She also recently tweeted about Bradley Cooper, Eddie Redmayne, and Emmanuel Lubezki.

    Interviews:

    1) Christopher Nolan: Called Boyhood his favorite film of 2014, and wrote a letter of admiration to Richard Linklater. Guessing Nolan will be voting for Linklater for director?

Anyone else have any insight (or guesses) on how folks will vote?

I also used to like this kind of stuff, but then I realized going down to the wire, you could lose your mind here – remember last year when someone mentioned voters really liked Sally Hawkins and then we all started predicting her to win based on that? It won’t really matter individually, and perhaps voters don’t even take friendships into account.

But I do know that Jack Nicholson will most likely vote for Michael Keaton, as they are good friends and Jack hosted a Birdman screening at his home

Anne Hathaway is vocal about her support for Eddie Redmayne, and Hugh Jackman hosted a screening party for The Theory of Everything

Bradley Cooper most likely has the support of buddies Ben Affleck and Leonardo DiCaprio.

But I don’t think we should judge based on these – it is those faceless Oscar voters who determine the winners (Mr. Krabs being one of them now  )

The Daily Beast published an article with an academy voter. Interesting insight on the major categories.

I was on AwardsDaily, and Gail Withers (a trained psychic) has many academy members she associates with. Here are a few she had lunch with recently- and what they said regarding major races. The first one is pretty straightforward; the second one was nasty.
    _________________________________________________________

    FIRST ACADEMY VOTER’S CHOICES
    OCCUPATION: Producer

    BEST PICTURE
    The Grand Budapest Hotel

Reason: “I just loved the visuals. Very intense movie. Everything else this year was not as special.”

    BEST DIRECTOR: Richard Linklater, Boyhood

Reason: “He had the hardest task. 12 years is a long time to work with the same cast (and crew?). Plus he’s the safe choice. I’m not a sheep by any means, but it makes me feel better to vote for a winner.”

    BEST ACTOR
    Michael Keaton, Birdman

Reason: “His Golden Globes speech sold me. Before, I was voting for Eddie Redmayne. Because Eddie gave the best performance. But when Michael said that stuff about his family, l broke down. He deserves to take the trophy home to them.”

    BEST ACTRESS
Marion Cotillard, Two Days One Night

Reason: “Julianne Moore had years to deal with her situation. Marion has two days. Enough said.”

    BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
    J.K. Simmons, Whiplash

Reason: “He’s brilliant in Whiplash, one of the few movies I actually think deserves a best picture nomination.”

    BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
    Patricia Arquette, Boyhood

Reason: “Who else was I going to vote for, Meryl again? Give me a break.”

    SECOND ACADEMY VOTER’S CHOICES
    OCCUPATION: Actor

    BEST PICTURE
    American Sniper

Reason: “It’s Clint Eastwood, it’s about America and it made money. Why would I pick crap that made zilch at the box-office? Besides, I haven’t seen most of the films nominated.”

    BEST DIRECTOR
    I abstain

Reason: “Clint wasn’t here, so why bother?”

    BEST ACTOR
    Bradley Cooper, American Sniper

Reason: “He rocks, first of all! Second of all his performance actually means something to the United States right now. The elections are coming up, and this is a time where most Americans feel divided. Cooper can make you feel better about what our men are doing overseas.”

    BEST ACTRESS
Marion Cotillard, Two Days One Night

Reason: “I love French women. I didn’t see the movie, but I did see Inception and she was good in that.”

    BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
    I abstain

Reason: “I was going to vote for Robert Duvall, but he was a real dick to me at a party- so I decided not to bother voting at all here.”

    BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
    Meryl Streep, Into the Woods

Reason: “This is the first time in a while Meryl Streep is nominated for a role that doesn’t require her to rely on wigs and makeup tricks. She is totally natural in the role.”

    This are stupid hypothesis.

We’d need at least 400 leaked voting opinions to FEEL secure about changing predictions.

That “actor” can’t be a real person, can he?

The highlighted, bold lettering is still happening.

If I knew Arquette personally, I’d ask her to mention you in her Oscar speech.
