In the movie industry, we have well established actors and well established directors. However, many actors crossover and try their hand at directing, even making new careers out of it. I’m going to start this series of polls, each one dedicated to an actor/director. However, the likes of Quentin Tarantino can’t be included as he is only a bit-player in a few of his movies.
So first up, Robert Redford. Here are the statistics:
1 Academy Award nomination for Best Actor (0 Wins)
2 Academy Award nominations for Best Director (1 Win)
So, which field does Redford succeed at more?
He is a major all time movie-star/actor…
his acting is what made and makes him a huge star..
so thats his success….
His directing is what makes him even more respected
as a film maker too..
He is truly a great star.
As for his acting though, lets say this..he gets the job done.
I dont think ive ever come out of a redford film and been blown away..
favorite performance…THE WAY WE WERE
favorite directed film….ORDINARY PEOPLE/ QUIZ SHOW
Nothing he has directed even comes close to some of the stuff he did as an actor. “Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid” alone is reason enough for me to consider him a better actor (or movie star, if you will) than director.
He’s an okay director, but his work as an actor is far more impressive.
Quiz Show was pretty good. Beyond that nothing he’s done as a filmmaker has surpassed okay. Also, he was a great star, never a great actor. His greatest accomplished is Sundance.
