Do directors who sometimes act count? If then, there’s Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, Sydney Pollack, John Huston, Roman Polanski, all in starring roles plus there are many others. Alfred Hitchcock and Stanley Kubrick had multiple acting cameos in their films and the latter won for Visual Effects. Multiple writing winner Paddy Chayefsky also had uncredited parts on films based on screenplays he wrote.

Andrea Berloff, nominated this year for writing “Straight Outta Compton”, is an actress too.

Ruth Gordon – multiple screenplay nods

Roberto Benigni – Best Director win, Best Original Screenplay nod

Kevin Costner – Best Picture, Best Director

    Robert Redford – Best Director

    Warren Beatty – Best Director

Barbra Streisand – Best Original Song

Sofia Coppola – Best Original Screenplay

Nia Vardalos – Best Original Screenplay nominee

Charlie Chaplin – 2 honorary awards, 2 screenplay nods, won Best Music, Original Dramatic Score

Orson Welles – won Best Original Screenplay, Best Director nominee

Dennis Hopper – Best Original Screenplay nominee

    Eminem – Best Original Song

Oprah Winfrey – Best Picture nominee

Sylvester Stallone – Best Original Screenplay nominee

Mel Brooks – Best Original Screenplay winner and nominee for Adapted S.

Gene Wilder – Best Adapted Screenplay nominee

John Cleese – Best Original Screenplay nominee

Sacha Baron Cohen – Best Adapted Screenplay nominee

Todd Field – Best Adapted Screenplay nominee (twice)

If Jean Hersholt Huminitarian Award counts (nobody is nominated for it, there are only winners), then there were Bob Hope, Gregory Peck, Frank Sinatra, Rosalind Russell, Charlton Heston, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Newman, Oprah Winfrey, Angelina Jolie and Debbie Reynolds, among others.

Do only the producers win documentary awards because Lee Grant directed Down and Out In America which won the Documentary Feature in 1986.

A good example, but producers and directors of Documentaries overlap more often now than even a few decades ago, so she didn’t get a nod.

If Brad Pitt wins again for The Big Short, he will have 2 producing oscars. Most for anyone currently in the business
